I bought the Xtava Black Orchid diffuser and oh my, what a difference! My hair is much curlier and no frizz. My stylist noticed a huge difference when I came in for a trim last week. Thanks for your review--I would not have known about this otherwise!
I got this for Mothers Day, and wow! I couldn't believe the lack of hot spot on my scalp and the fact that I didn't have to deal with frizz. It's almost the same as air-drying, plus wonderful volume and bounce. I also won't need to use as much product as I usually do when diffusing. Thanks for this review!
It's orchid...like the flower. Not orchard... like land you plant fruit on... just incase this confuses anyone when trying to purchase but the orchid is great all the same!!
I was really hesitant to try this. I thought it was a lot of hype until you showed the difference in the airflow. I am going to have to compare with my current diffuser too. For the past several months I have been using my hardhat dryer exclusively, and I definitely noticed a big difference in frizz in comparison to my diffuser. I clip up the roots for volume and then use finishing paste to give things a final lift. I will definitely give this diffuser a try. Thanks for the review.
As you know I LOVE my Black Orchid. It gives me way more bounce, I believe because it dries so evenly through the clump. Be sure to pixie diffuse with it!
Thanks so much for the review! I'm ordering the diffuser attachment to try with my current dryer first. I'm excited to see if it makes a difference with frizz on my thin, fine, wavy/curly hair! I live in a humid region of Texas, also.
Love the concept behind this diffuser. I totally get it and wondered why someone didn't create this sooner. Yes it's large but it's a good that it is. You can get more hair dry faster without pushing a diffuser too much into your hair or scalp and thus not cause hot spots or frizz. The fact that it's not collapsible is good too because honestly the collapsible ones collapse far too often since I have very fine hair but lots of it. meaning frizz every time the diffuser collapses. Your link to Amazon doesn't take one to the Black Orchid diffuser. It instead shows a collapsible diffuser from Xtava which is frustrating. I have hunted down the company and sent them a note asking when this would be available for purchase since it seems to be out of stock. I have had the John Frieda type diffuser from other brands and it allows too much air to escape and doesn't cup/cradle my fine hair making it more likely to be tumbled about and get frizzy. My hair starts getting frizzy at the roots and not the ends until second/third day. Good job on this review.
This is why diffusers never worked for me... the intense air going through the center of the diffuser would make my hair look like I was blow drying with my hair dryer alone. I have little experience with diffusers but should I invest in this one? I have a crappy blow dryer too. I live in Utah with pretty cold winters that never allow for a wash-n-go
Diffusing my hair ruins my curl pattern and makes it frizzier. I only have 2b/c curls so it loses definition really easily. /: I'll have to try the black orchid to see if it works for me!
Thank you for the review!! Was wondering if it would work for you, when I watched some videos on it I was looking like it was good for curly with very long hair.. Great to see its for medium length also..
Good review! I am getting mine in the mail today and can not wait to try it! I have an issue with frizz too so hopefully the Black Orchid helps a little.
I'm looking into buying this diffuser, but I'm not sure if it'll fit. In the video you say you use a John Frieda blow dryer, and I believe you may have the same one I do, the Full Volume blow dryer. Our diffusers look exactly the same, so I'm hoping it's the same one! :)
Hi there, great review. I have a small head and low density, barely shoulder length hair. Would you think this diffuser is too big for a person who doesn't have much hair? I can see how it would be great for super thick and very long hair. How about for the opposite? Thanks!
I tried the orchid, it was very heavy for me to manage. Perhaps I am weak! I can use it on the sides, but am totally uncoordinated in the back. I ended up going back to my bed head diffuser because it is so much lighter.
Kathleen Klein Oh interesting - I never considered the weight! I have just been looking at dimensions to work out if it will fit my dryer. Approximately how much does it weigh? TIA!
i dont use a diffuser often as im too lazy for it ( my hair is super long, thick and its 3a )but i love to use my hair dryer bonnet attachment. in terms of volume it may not give much but reducing frizz and allowing my leave in to penetrate better and my hair feels much softer with it. And since it a bonnet n drying all the hair at the same time it really cut down the drying time n i can wear it while eating or checking my phone without having to hold the dryer. i cannot reccomend it enough and i got it from ebay for less than $5. it can even be used with deep conditioners
Hi, would you know if the black orchid diffuser is combatible with Braun satin Hair dryer. I have just got the new blow dryer, hence didnt want to invest in a new one.
Question... Does this diffuser fits most hair dryers? My hair dryer is a professional the one used by many salons... Just wandering the measurements before getting this amazing product.. It will be very nice if you can please provide the info.. Thank you in advance 😊..
Recently decided to stop blowing my hair straight. I think I have 2a on the sides & 2b in the back. The texture is fine & it's denser in the back than on the sides. I bought some Deva products but most of the time my mid-length hair looks like a stringy mess. I don't know if I need to try this diffuser as your hair is thicker & longer than mine. I also don't know if it would fit my Solano dryer. One more thing, when I don't want to or don't have time to diffuse , how can I get volume air drying my hair ? All this is new to me! Thanks. Elizabeth
I'm not Becky, but I have some suggestions. If you want to air dry, you might try clipping your roots some. She has a video explaining her clipping methods. You'll look silly for a bit, but it does really help. Also, Deva products can be a little heavy. If you have thin or fine hair, they may be weighing you down giving you limp noodles. You might try switching it up a little to something lighter. Avoid shea butter and glycerine and see if that helps.
janina873 i am not sure about that one but i had a baby bliss lying around my house and it worked on it. I always use chi and that was a bust with this attachment. I just got mine two days ago and noticed target had hair dryers out on display so i was going to take it there to see if i could get it to fit. But i found my baby bliss. I wish they had a list of hair dryers it would fit though.
so where else besides the website can I purchase this diffuser plus the blow dryer?? I'm looking on the website right now and the cheapest blow dryer is $49
Hello! I saw your recent curly hair routine and I wanted to know is that the same routine that you will be using now that summer is coming. I also live in Dallas and I'm trying to figure out what to use, my hair is getting so frizzy and my curls are not defined and I have no idea what to buy or do, I really need some advice please!!?
+Maribel Enriquez hi! I'm actually in the process of experimenting again for this summer with new products, right now I am loving the shea moisture gel cream it has been amazing but I still absolutely love my raw curls mousse and I have been using it with la sport mega mega hold get and it has been fighting off frizzys really well!
+Polly Hall I like it a lot more than the deva diffuser just because I think the fingers of the deva one are too thing to be able to put by my scalp with out messing up my curls I also prefer that there are no areas for my hair to fall through
I got mine in the mail and it dose not fit on the blow dryer now to buy a new dryer any suggestions thank you for another great video I can't wait to try it :)
+Tina Cross it didn't fit mine either, I honestly just bought the xtava blow dryer as well, it's 36 dollars but is really powerful, I really love it so far!
+The Polished Curl Which one of the xtava blow dryers did you buy? I bought this diffuser and it didn't fit the dryer I have now and I want to make sure I purchase a new dryer (I'm in need of a new one) to fit the orchid diffuser. Thanks for your great reviews!
I was hoping to purchase this diffuser but the only place I can find it now is on ebay (way too expensive). Xtava now has the white orchid diffuser. Has anyone used it? Thank you for all the amazing information. I am on day 2 of my CG journey. Researched steadily for two weeks before starting a new bouncy chapterin my life!
Excellent review, you've sold me on this - thank you! However, its pronounced Orchid, like the flower,...the 'ch' sounds like 'k'.
or'Kid.
You corrected her so sweetly.
Yes, you were kind. I’m dying every time she says it!
I bought the Xtava Black Orchid diffuser and oh my, what a difference! My hair is much curlier and no frizz. My stylist noticed a huge difference when I came in for a trim last week. Thanks for your review--I would not have known about this otherwise!
Laura Lewandowski what hair dryer works with the black orchid diffuser
does it fit on any blow dryer? How does it attach?

Is it Black Orchid or Black Orchard? You wrote Black Orchid but said orchard through the entire video.
+Bobbie Ditcharo-Roland haha I know I realized it after I filmed! It's orchid that's what I get for only saying the word in my head :)
Lol it’s not orchard! 🤣🤣🤣 I can’t... Thanks for the review though. And orchid is a flower. You say it like or-kid. 💜
Diffusing my hair ruins my curl pattern and makes it frizzier. I only have 2b/c curls so it loses definition really easily. /: I'll have to try the black orchid to see if it works for me!
+Courtney Lynne for sure, I think if any diffuser will work this one will, I really think the lack of direct air will make a difference!
You sold me on this diffuser! Lol!!! Can't wait to get it! Great review! 👍😊

Ok sometimes it helps to read the description lol. I just saw that you linked your blow dryer, and it's the same! Awesome :)
It fit my baby bliss dryer.

Hello real life curly girl made a short curly hair tutorial and used this diffuser. That alone convinced me to give it a try
I tried the orchid, it was very heavy for me to manage. Perhaps I am weak! I can use it on the sides, but am totally uncoordinated in the back. I ended up going back to my bed head diffuser because it is so much lighter.

Are you still loving this diffuser?? Is it good to get really curly hair? Also does it fit on a Elchim 3900?
Very thorough review. Thank you!
Amazing review... Thanks so so much

ana abreu I just received mine in the mail and it does not fit any of my 3 blow dryers. I really want to try so I have to go by another blow dryer.
It didn't fit mine. The website says it fits Xtava Allure or Peony dryers. I just bought the Allure.

+Stacie Kelly Thank you Stacie. I watched the clipping the roots video. I will try that. I also have to find products other than Deva to try.
Does anyone know if this is compatible with Parlux dryers? TIA!

hiya ! any suggestions where can I purchase this in the uk ?
I know this is an old thread but they do sell adapters on Amazon. If you look up the Black Orchid it should pop up as frequently purchased together.
I was hoping to purchase this diffuser but the only place I can find it now is on ebay (way too expensive). Xtava now has the white orchid diffuser. Has anyone used it? I just got mine from Amazon, $14.
Amazon for $13.99
Which FB group do you follow for curly girls? I can use all the refs I can get!
Sharon Molnar I think it might be the curly girls condition washing only group
Your hair is growing back so fast! It seems like just recently you cut it and it's getting quite long again already. :)
+Angela _ it really does grow so fast, I'm trying to decide if I should get it cut again or let it grow out!
+The Polished Curl I vote for grow it.
Can you edit this and pronounce it correctly?
How can she do that
