I know that what I am about to say is extremely controversial, but Normandie will always be my vote for the most beautiful and aesthetically pleasingly designed ship ever built. I have a few others who go along with her like RMS Queen Elizabeth, RMS Titanic, Bremen and Europa, the German ships that were awarded to the British after WWI (Imperator, Bismarck, and Vaterland), Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse, RMS Lusitania and Mauretania, United States, SS France of 1910, and many others. I mean, I have been researching Titanic and maritime history in general for the last 34 years of my life and it's hard to pick a favorite obviously, but Normandie will always be the most beautiful in my eyes. Even the Johan Von Oldenbarnevelt was a beautiful liner in her/or his own way. One prewar ship that will always capture my imagination will be SS City of New York (later renamed New York, as in the ship that was tied up next to the RMS Oceanic before she nearly collided with Titanic on her way out of Southampton). I love ships, and Mark has helped to rekindle that love within me with his many postings.

Robert Keeton : When you say the Normandie was the most beautifully designed ship, do you mean on the outside or inside ???? If you mean on the outside Ok I agree. However, if you mean on the inside I would have to disagree somewhat. Ships of the Italian Line such as the Andrea Doria and her sister Christofo Colombo were considered to have the most beautifully designed interiors and decorations.
