Problem is that Star Wars happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away. Depending on the point of reference, it may or may not have been in the past. If it happened 5000 years ago, but 4000 light years away from earth, then it would have happened 1000 years ago from our point of reference. If it happened 4000 years ago but 5000 light years away, then we're still 1000 years from seeing it from our point of reference. Maybe a lightsaber was already created, but was lost when the dinosaurs became extinct. So it's not necessarily that they don't exist yet, we just lost the know-how on how to make them. :D

Its the power of the fictional crystals.
The lightsaber's beam came from the ignition of the kyber crystal inside the lightsaber's hilt
anybody can use a lightsaber according to Disney so shut up
That's what i was thinking. I immediately remembered Han Solo using one in Empire.
Solo, Grevious, Finn... dozens in the EU. I always simply thought of it as a strong magnetic field containing plasma and some other 'deflector-force-field-thing' to contain the heat and enable the blade to block blaster bolts. The kyber crystals have only been said to power the weapon and give the blade its colour.

Jus say'n
foosblood24 Light saber doesn’t mean speed of light - just like LIGHTning or LIGHT bulbs don’t mean speed of light. Light sabers are more so laser swords or plasma.

Haha
To be fair he said parsecs as a unit of time when it is a unit of distance
Where in SW Cannon does it say the beam is contained by the Force of the user?
Finn didn't use the Force, Han Solo definitely didn't, hell.....even Luke himself didn't have any Force control until he started sparing with that floating ball in the Falcon on the way to Alderaan.
foosblood24 a lot of the “lore” that they used was incorrect. The lightsabers didn’t channel the force and it was already pre established that light sabers where projecting plasma from the hilt which was then contained and refined into a blade shape using magnetic forces
not contained but emmitted.
han solo supposedly did have the force.
finn does too according to the new movies. but i dont know how cannon the new movies are anymore.
in the first three which is arguebly most cannon... the lightsabers just amplified and contained the users force through the crystal in the hilt. which is why everytime the lightsaber was dropped or no longer used the beam would dissappear.
but after all the toys came out everyone just assumed lightsabers needed batteries.
Non force users have used sabers, old sabers had buttons, newer sabers used switches on the inside that needed to be flipped with the force
"Force goes through all of us" Said Yoda or something like that
1. The crystal inside the saber is a crystalized form of the Force.
2. Everything (organic or not) in the SW universe is part of the Force, and has the potential to wield it.
3. The crystal itself emits the blade, but needs the will of any living being to activate.
WAIT WAITWAITWAITWAITWAIT WAIT the beam is definitely contained by a magnetic field and not by the force. Never usually comment but it felt like someone kicked me straight in my lore bone D:
Yes! Another smart person!
I was thinking the same thing!
Exactly. The force must be used to control some movements, however, since the ‘blade’ has no weight.

I'm thinking the force is actually telekinesis if you think about it, like if there would be some way you could actually use telekinesis as weapon, it probably would be classified as: "the force"
You just choke the school bully with the force to assert dominance while at the same time getting yelled at by the principal
It's actually just the energy we radiate & put out into the universe. As for actually being able to use that energy like jedi & siths do, that would be telekinesis, but human beings are far too caught up in the physical world & materialistic things to achieve such a thing. You would have to master your own mind, & keep your mind & soul perfectly in tune to even begin to achieve such a thing. At least that's My theory about it all.
@@truthartistic7452 But see you cannot modify forces with your mind making this kind of stuff impossible no matter how much you have "mastered your own mind". Its just not how forces work. Non-contact forces like gravity exist but there is a solid reason of why they do and it cannot be manipulated.

Thats not a lightsaber thats just a giant plasma cutter
Fun fact: in official star wars canon, standard lightsabers are quite literally a hilt, and that hilt forms an electromagnetic field on one end, before releasing plasma from a kyberr crystal, which is a fancy crystal that contains a hell lot of plasma. We can, as proven by another video I saw today, make plasma within the hilt, so it won't be too much of a problem (though your duel will only last 30 seconds, and won't allow lightsaber clashing). Anyway, said plasma is contained in the electromagnetic field, which is how it manages to deflect things - the blaster bolts work similarly, and it is actually the electromagnetic fields (not the blades) clashing with one another.
Sadly, we don't have kyberr crystals in real life and we can't manipulate electromagnetic fields in this way (yet) meaning a proper light saber is nigh impossible until we can make a giant electromagnetic tube and fill it with plasma.
TL;DR: Lightsabers are just an electromagnetic field filled with lots of plasma from a crystal in the hilt.
To add on, there is also something called a 'Vibrosaber' or a 'Vibroblade' which is essentially similar to the mirror method, but there is no laser. Instead it is ONLY the electromagnetic field, and it's pretty much a weaker lightsaber that only zaps you when it hits you. Some variations include the plasma in very limited quantities, not enough to do more than a flesh burn. It's used by jedi younglings and padawans for training before they get to use the actual lightsabers. You never see them in the movies.
TL;DR: Vibrosabers are like the mirror thing, but they are supposed to only zap you
Then we have protosabers. Protosabers, or Archaic Lightsabers, are exactly what the name suggests: an old, pre-lightsaber lightsaber design. It works on the same concept as a normal lightsaber, except it doesn't have the kyberr crystal, and instead uses a bulky, vulnerable powerpack that you place on your back, connected to the lightsaber by a cord which, when turned on, produces plasma just like the lightsabers we know and love today, just way more unstable, and weaker. Oh, and heavier. Way heavier. Instead of Kyberr crystals, they would use a focusing crystal. However, protosabers have highly limited lifetime - you can't use them for many years on end like a lightsaber, and they will run out eventually and need to be refilled.
Then we move onto Retrosabers, which are the exact same thing as protosabers, but different. They instead use a smaller power pack, a lot smaller - about the size of a pouch - which the user clips to their belt, and keeps on their hip, attached to the weapon by a small cord. It's way lighter and less bulky than the last version. But the real thing that made it way better is that you can flick a switch on it, activating a high-power mode, which uses a lot more power, but makes it more dangerous and powerful, more comparable to modern lightsabers, but this is only temporary and can't be used for too long. Retrosabers were way rarer, and not used as much, but did find their way well into the clone wars by certain jedi who opted to use it over the traditional lightsabers we all know and love.
Certainly, protosabers and retrosabers are more possible, though we'll still need to learn how to manipulate electromagnetic fields without conducting it through material.
TL;DR: There are also older lightsaber models called protosabers that use a power pack, and are way weaker (& heavier), and have limited lifetime. Later versions are called Retrosabers, being way rarer and less widespread, having a smaller power pack and a 'high power' mode.

Well, the first lightsaber was created by the Sith, so I would argue that its use is not just peace keeping

Many thanks. Here have a like

Watch the whole video, it's pretty interesting
We can't build a lightsaber but we can start ww3
ALEX LAB MADE A REAL LIGHTSABER THERE IS NO WW3
Yes
@Kyle_Gaming I said that 5 months ago when there was a high chance

Using Death Star
Who is here after hacksmith created the first ever real lightsaber
Ah that me I am
Literally everyone
we get it he made a lightsaber
Kudos once again Seeker!! A really fun video and having doc Lincoln just put it right over the top!!
Star Wars is historical fiction
Change my mind
Captain Waa *Midi-Chlorians work like Chloroplast and mitochondria*
DAC Studios except it doesn’t give us force powers
Well your are going to have to wait 1000 decade's for your mind to be changed
It's clearly historical fact. I've seen the episode where Obi-Wan takes loads of smack and gets haunted by a dead baby on the ceiling.

"How close are we to creating a lightsaber?"
*The Hacksmith has entered the chat*
Mean while in 2031
Scientist: we invented a new weapon called the lightsaber!!!
@Seeker : According to ALL of the Star Wars books that went into detail of a lightsabers construction, you've missed something BIG!! The beam created by the kyber crystal/s is only as thick as a human hair. The remaining "blade" seen is the cascade of the focused energy being returned to the blade emitter! Hence the recycling of the diridium battery as well as the initial "hum" produced whilst the blade is on.
I say we're pretty close now thanks to the hacksmith
Antimatter is just the real life equivalent of the dark side...
We are close but it’s not possible”
**Hacksmith alreayd creates retractable lightsaber**
Me: bet you feel stupid now...;)
yeah i’m sure he felt stupid a year ago when he posted this
who feels stupid now
Though battling can't exactly be done with that lightsaber
@@alexeyevvasilyevichlariono7601 ah well. he at least got about as close as you can get
Thats not real its an hand held torch
its not a lightsaber its a proto saber
Bet you feel stupid now
Isn't a lightsaber's beam more a beam of plasma contained and shaped by a forcefield, not the force itself?
Exactly thought of that. If not, then no non-force user would be able to use it. Which we do see they occasionally do use it.
Maybe some lightsabers are designed to only let force users able to turn it on.
that's what it does when being explained though what the force does in the realm of actual physics
Liam Reford Nope, but that’s the closest we can get to it in the real world not the fantasy world of Star Wars
I need to figure out how to source plasma within a handle and contain its 'blade' perhaps within an electromagnetic field, fixed in coherence with the handle....
Yep. Their guy didn’t know what he was talking about
Actually, it IS possible to make a PROTOSABER. It is in a TINY box, does not use any plasma, and uses a "blade" to contain the heat. Made by the Hacksmith.
Simple answer? It couldn’t be a laser but some type of matter that is presently undiscovered

Hello ppl from a century or two away after this video.
Be wise using your Lightsaber
jokes on you, hacksmith already made the first retractable lightsaber
"I estimate that we're still a century or 2 away from having a lightsaber"
The Hacksmith: "No thanks, I'll just build one now"
There is not a scientist searching how make a lightsaber
Hacksmith: yes but actually no
Technically, he is an engineer, not a scientist
“We’re pretty close to a lightsaber, but not there yet.”
Hacksmith: “my pp itch”
the day that there is a jedi order and have real lightsabers, im gone
The Hacksmith watching this like: I take that as a personal challenge
The Hacksmith: am I a joke to you
PD: he has done a plasma lightsaber, and it looks just like the movies.

Forget the force and lightsabers. The schwartz > the force. "I bet she gives great helmet"
I hate it when I get my Schwartz twisted.
we are done with it, The hacksmith built a real one.
We aren’t as close to creating one
