The knobs are throttle pitch & mixture.
Throttle is pushed in for full throttle, the pitch and the fuel/air mixture are adjusted for maximum performance throughout the race.
All this occurs at 200MPH 30 feet above the ground.
Nice Lancair. Flies low, flies fast, turns left. You high passed that Glasair like he was standing still.
