I started watching baseball religiously in 1966, never missed a GOTW on NBC and local Yankee and Mets broadcasts. If anyone can discover the original NBC broadcasts for the World Series for 66 and 67 would be wonderful!
I still remember that game I I had Mo in a baseball card I was 12 years old I am now 68 me and my father watch it on TV he was one of my favorite Orioles
Moe Drabowsky's performance in this game is nothing short of spectacular. strikes out first 6 batters, 11 total. RIP Moe---he was quite a character also
I was only a kid when this world series was played but I remember it well. Simply put, the Orioles pitching shut the Dodgers hitting down. They put on quite a performance. Still have the baseball cards of this world series.
and what's really crazy, is Baltimore ended up winning by a score of 1-0 in both games 3 & 4..Baltimore only averaged 3 runs per game, but still won the series..
RIP Frank Robinson. One of the all-time greats indeed! The first and ONLY player to EVER win the MVP in both the American League AND the National League.
@mbrand19971 Actually in the 1905 WS (Giants vs Athletics) ALL games were shutouts with the Giants winning 4 -1 and winning the last 3 by shutouts. An amazing feat was Christy Mathewson pitching 3 shutouts in 6 days!!! Something we'd never see in baseball probably ever again!!! bdog
Frank Robinson and Don Drysdale were definitely not strangers when Robinson came up in the first. Drysdale had a history of knocking Frank down in the National League and they even got into a fight or two. It's good to see Robinson get the better of him here.
The Orioles Swept the Dodgers in four games even though in the first game the Dodgers scored two runs which the biggest was Jim Lefebvre's home run. The next three games they never touched home plate due to the amazing pitching of the Orioles that shut them out. This may had been the only time in world series history a team gets shut out three times consecutively.
seria posible subir una recopilacion de jugadas de luis aparicio para compararlas con las que hace omar vizquel seria un banquete para los seguidores de estos peloteros
@bdog1323 No Arguement here Christy Matthewson was a great pitcher in his time during the 1900's and perhaps he piched his best game of his career so on record this has happened twice in baseball history.
@joedits1 You hit the nail of the head, but before ESPN took it over, it was the "Classic Sport Channel" it was even better. it used to be free on Dish Network, now you have to pay extra for it. I don't, who the hell would pay to see a poker game?? ZZZZZZZZZ.
The 1966 Orioles were the first great Orioles team that was a great all around balanced team offense defense and pitching. And simply had too much hitting and power for the light hitting Dodgers.
those "light hitting" Dodgers swept the Yankees 3 years earlier and were the defending champs beating the Twins in 7 the previous year...but Baltimore only averaged three runs a game in this series...so i don't know what you mean about, "too much hitting and power"
Here's my take on the first two games in LA; Fans with newspapers and cardboard boxes on their heads. Look at the shots of the people in the stands. I know by the mid 60s hats were out of fashion but you'd think people in Southern California who were going to sit in the sun for three hours would put a hat on. But no. I'll put this folded cardboard box on my head like a moron.
I like looking at the crowds, that was before MLB team merchandise was every-fucking-where and people actually wore nice clothes and their team's cap to the games instead of screen-printed t-shirts from Wal-Mart.
Why did the game look more beautful in 1966 than today. Is it because the game was played mostly in the daytime or because the players weren't juiced up gorillas?
I was 15 and an Orioles fan. The Dodgers were favored. I remember this series like it was yesterday. I knew exactly what each batter shown in this film was going to do because I remembered it that well. Of course, the reason for that is that this was the only game the Dodgers scored a run. The Orioles pitching shut them out the rest of the way. And that was no accident. These Dodgers were the worst offensive team I have ever seen in the World Series. In fact, I remember thinking after Game 2 that there was a real possibility that the Dodgers had scored their last run. Not just because the Orioles' pitching was as good as the Dodgers, but because the Orioles were better hitters. Give the Dodgers credit though. They only allowed the Orioles 13 runs in 4 games. Brilliant!!!!!!! The best World Series pitching exhibition I ever saw. Three years later they had to lower the pitching mound to help the hitters. Don't let anyone fool you. The pitching today is far superior to what it was in the 40's and 50's.
After Gilliam walks with the bases loaded in game one for run number two in the bottom of the third that’s the end of it. The Orioles will allow no more scoring for the rest of the Series.
@huskyjerk No, it's a guy named Frank McCourt that's fouling things up. An owner that cares NOT about the fans or the team but only his bottom line. Thank goodness he put the Dodgers up for sale.
J JENDALL714's description of the umpires may be profane and all minors should be warned. His remark is particularly lamentable because the O's held Los Angeles to two runs in the entire series and SHUT THEM OUT in the last three outings of this greatest World Series of all time. Jim Palmer defeated the mighty Koufax in the latter's last ever appearance! Finally who could overlook the talented telling of the tale by our own colorful Hall of Fame broadcaster, Chuck Thompson?
Dodgers were running on empty with this team...this was their 4th World Series in 8 years, and 3rd world series in 4 years..but they won 3 out of those 4 world series, with 1966 being their only loss ..they had nothing left in this series...they basically started the rebuilding process after this season...as the two linchpins of their rotation in Koufax and Drysdale started their demise..
@FRSFreeState -Dodger pitchers were prob exhausted from the grueling pennant race they were in. Orioles hitting was great; Dodger hitting was pathetic. Moe Drabowsky was amazing in relief in 1st gm. Palmer, Mcnally and Wally Bunker pitched shutouts. Beginning of Orioles having best record in all of MLB from 1966-1986. Orioles of past 10 yrs are a disgrace to some of those oriole teams
@kimv020887Are you serious? It's constantly the World Series of Poker. How is that complaining? It's an observation. Here comes another one, you're a little on the self-righteous side. Right?

This is great! I was a BIG Orioles fan...wish I was around to see them win their first World Series.
I love these old baseball clips.... Thank You so much for posting this!
Thanks for posting. I remember this one as a kid.
this Orioles team was just honored at game for 50th anniversary of this season. hard to believe its been that long
I'm writing a baseball movie known as "Boy with a Homerun", the movie will take place in 1966 Los Angeles, California.
Wes Parker, Jim Lefevbre and Willie Davis. In later years they came and played in the Japan league. So did Don Buford. 😃😄
me too brown frame i got all 5 games 1-4 and the summary card.... that was my first year collecting.. i was 6 years old
I was only a kid when this world series was played but I remember it well. Simply put, the Orioles pitching shut the Dodgers hitting down. They put on quite a performance. Still have the baseball cards of this world series.
The most remarkable stat about this series, is that the Orioles scored more runs in the first inning, than the Dodgers scored in the whole series.
and what's really crazy, is Baltimore ended up winning by a score of 1-0 in both games 3 & 4..Baltimore only averaged 3 runs per game, but still won the series..
Moe Drabowski should have been the MVP of this World Series.

he didnt win the series for the birds. their pitching did

Who is the gentleman in the suit on the field?

Lamentably JENDALL714 lets loose with an uncalled for scatological reference.

Back when ESPN Classic was actually "classic". Before the pokerheads took over the channel.

Lol.
Frank Robinson was incredible in '66, he really stuck it to the Reds for making the worst trade of all time.
The dodger's 2nd baseman was their power hitter, what about Tommy Davis and Willie Davis their bats were dead in this WS.
I like looking at the crowds, that was before MLB team merchandise was every-fucking-where and people actually wore nice clothes and their team's cap to the games instead of screen-printed t-shirts from Wal-Mart.
The Dodgers got beaten like Stepchildren in this World Series!
Why did the game look more beautful in 1966 than today. Is it because the game was played mostly in the daytime or because the players weren't juiced up gorillas?
Nestor123057 It's both. 😃
The 66 Orioles were too much offensively for the Dodgers and their pitching was awesome as well.
I was 15 and an Orioles fan. The Dodgers were favored. I remember this series like it was yesterday. @KidRockEatsSmegma Excuse me??????
@kulditbeme Right?!?! Poker is neither classic or a sport. The only people sweating are actually having a heart attack.
@hoosierlooker --Frank was definitely the best hitter Orioles ever had (Eddie Murray somewhat distant second) Best hitter Reds ever had too
nope.try pete rose.
wow.they hit koufax pretty hard.shocking

Great Baltimore Team with Cincinnati Reds Star Frank Robinson. Dodgers expected to easily beat Baltimore...reality and Robby hit them.
robby?brooks hit a homer too.pitching won this for baltimore.not hitting.
O's in 4 baby!!!!!
The Orioles had too much pitching and hitting for the Dodgers in 66
If "Good pitching beats good hitting", then good pitching definitely beats NO hitting! Dodgers hitters were pathetic!

So true. the people in Bristol have LOST their minds.
@FRSFreeState -yea. I've stopped following them, even though I live in area.
