The Braves only win one WS in each city , 4 decades apart .
So sometime in the 2030s , look for the Braves to have relocated to a new city for that next WS championship.

Yes . congrats to the Braves , and I shall put this tidbit of information to rest.
Thanks , I could remember where I made this comment.
Either the Braves or Dusty Baker were going to break their "streak" during this WS.
Unfortunately , it doesn't look like the Reds are going to join the other former Dusty managed teams to win a WS after firing him, any time soon.

Updated about 2017: The Astros were stealing signs from the dodgers therefore getting caught cheating. Controversially, The Astros would still keep their trophy.
    2018: Red Sox 4-1 dodgers
The only game that the dodgers won the entire series, was a walk off in an 18 inning game, therefore making it the longest World Series game ever played.
    2019: Nationals 4-3 Astros
Every game was won by the road team.
    2020: Dodgers 4-2 Rays
Both teams did not play in their home stadiums due to COVID, and even though they didn’t win, the rays won a wild game 4.
    2021: Braves 4-2 Astros
The braves were undefeated at home during the postseason until game 5, where they lost to the Astros.
    2022: Astros 4-2 Phillies
Jeremy Peña became the first rookie to win the World Series MVP.
    2023: Rangers 4-1 Diamondbacks
To finish the regular season, the Rangers had 90 wins and the Diamondbacks had 84. Their 174 combined wins are the fewest wins shared between both World series teams ever.

    MVP: Stephen Strausberg
Every game was won by the road team.
    2020: Dodgers 4-2 Rays
    MVP: Corey Seager
Game 4 had an atrocious ending where the Dodgers had 2 errors to give the rays the walkoff win, Clayton Kershaw also broke the record for most strikeouts in post season history with 206 in game 5.
    2021: Braves 4-2 Astros

One more thing about similarities between '71 and '79 World Series. Both went 7 games. I've noticed that every time the Pirates win a World Series, it's 4 games to 3. 1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, and 1979. The 2 they lost were Boston 5 games to 3 and 1927 the Yankees 4 games to 0. Interestingly, it was spelled "Pittsburg," minus the "h' for 1903. They also lost the 1903 World Series on the same date they would win it in 1960 (October 13). My last posting was more than one thing, but all the other things just suddenly occurred to me.

Just a heads up, Pittsburgh was spelled as Pittsburg from 1891-1911 (a period in which the Pirates appeared in two World Series) because the United States Board on Geographic Names decided, as one of their thirteen principles, that all place names ending in "-burgh" should drop the final "-h". Most controversial cheating scandal? Most teams have been stealing signs since before any of us were born. Baseball has been filled with gambling, roids etc. Stealing signs is light weight and has become part of the game. So much so that teams practice how to counter stealing signs. Dodgers were so comfortable with it, they talked about doing it in a sports illustrated article in 2018.

Also, 1927 was the only World Series to end on a wild pitch. 1971 and 1979 were eerily similar in that they both ended on October 17, the Pirates beat the Orioles both times, both clinching games were at Baltimore, and Pittsburgh overcame a 2-game deficit in each (0-2 in 1971, 1-3 in '79). The 2006 Cardinals had the worst record (83-78) for a World Series winner.

After a meaningless day game late in 1959, Tigers announcers Van Patrick and Mel Ott were sent over to Cleveland to broadcast a night game between the Indians and the Chicago White Sox. Why? Because if the Sox won, they would win the pennant, their first in 40 years. The sigificance? It ended a reign of terror by the Yankees on the rest of the American League for the 1950s. No doubt the Yankees were a great team in the '50s, but it was bad for baseball when one team dominates as Casey's Yanks did then. Or, as I said to one friend, a Yankee fan, it was like celebrating the defeat of Hitler.

KC only won the WS in ‘85 due to a bad call in game 6. STL had a 1-0 lead in the top of the 9th. And on the bottom of the 9th KC had no one on base and it was 2 outs and a player grounds out and was actually out, but called safe. And the game continued. KC would win the game 1-2 to force a game 7. They’d win again 0-11

    • @billny33
      @billny33 2 года назад

The details here are a bit off.
The leadoff batter in the bottom of the 9th (Jorge Orta) for the Royals reached on the bad call by Don Denkinger. The Royals still had to rally the rest of the way for the tying and winning runs. However the Cardinals did help them out with a missed foul pop and a wild pitch that followed the bad call. You could say the bad call caused them to come unglued but the Cardinals still had plenty of chances to get out of that inning unscathed. This game ended with Dane Iorg (pronounced Orj) at bat with the bases loaded, only 1 out. He hit a line single to shallow right, Concepcion made a killer throw home but it was late by just a hair (dramatic play at the plate, Sundberg made a great slide) and the tying and winning runs scored. Even if he had been out, the Royals would have been tied and had one more out to play with. The Cardinals were never 1 out away from winning the World Series, although had they gotten Iorg to ground into a double play there, the Cardinals would have been World Champions.
The no one on and 2 outs situation you may have gotten confused with 1986 WS Game 6. The Mets were in that situation before rallying for 3 runs in the 10th to keep that series alive. But the Royals reached on a leadoff bad call.

I saw something last week (posting 5-23-21) saying that, in terms of absolute numbers (and going back to 1871, when nobody dreamed of the Yankees' existence) that the Giants have the most wins, taking into account their years in NYC and San Francisco. There's a site called mcubed.net that has every team's won-lost record for their entire existence, and the Yankees are the only team that have won at least half of their road games over all the time they've been on earth. All others are below .500; the Yankees are a little bit over.

1907-09 Tigers were only team to lose 3 straight World Series. Also, in 1914, the Boston Braves beat the Philadelphia Athletics' the next year, the Boston Red Sox would beat the Philadelphia Phillies. 1914 was a sweep, while in 1915, the loser did manage one win.
