I can't think how anyone can say anything bad about this film. It was one of the most striking viewing experiences i've had the pleasure of seeing. Something Hollywood unable to accomplish.
The lyrics are extracted from Dante's Divina Commedia. O you who are within your little bark, eager to listen, following behind my ship that, singing, crosses to deep seas, turn back to see your shores again: do not attempt to sail the seas I sail; you may, by losing sight of me, be left astray. The waves I take were never sailed before; Minerva breathes, Apollo pilots me, and the nine Muses show to me the Bears.
Long but fascinating tidbit that I'd like to share with fellow Preisner/Kieslowski fans that I saw in an interview with Preisner as a special feature on The Dekalog DVD. Kieslowski was in the studio with Preisner and the musicians when Preisner was composing the ending theme to their 1985 film "No End." Only the instrumentalists were in the room with them to work on the instrumental section, while the vocalists were in an adjacent room. Knowing the somber content of the film, Preisner turned the lights off, having the room only lit by candles. Preisner then asked the instrumentalists (non-vocalists) to hum the theme so he could record it, having the intentions of using them on the record instead of the professional vocalists. Kieslowski was annoyed and requested that they just go grab the vocalists who were just outside of the room instead of having the instrumentalists sing it, as it wasn't their specialty. Preisner instead insisted that it would be more potent if the less vocally trained instrumentalists hummed it. Against Kieslowski's wishes, they hummed the haunting theme to "No End" in the dark room. Kieslowski soon walked out of the room. With this being their first collaboration together, and knowing how film directors and composers often end their collaborations when they don' t see eye to eye, Preisner ran after him, telling Kieslowski that he'll do as Kieslowski asked and record it with the professional vocalists singing instead. Kieslowski turned to him and said something along the lines of, "You and I are going to work together for the rest of our lives." That's how powerful Preisner's nuanced vision was and how he was able to recognize and amplify Kieslowski's vision. I honestly believe he is the greatest composer of the 20th century and this piece right here for The Double Life lends credence to that.
There is piece of another Polish composer, Henryk Górecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs- Lento e largo and it's even more tragic. Especially knowing the history behind it.
hermosa pelicula y la escena de la muerte la mas fuerte de todas, creo que todos somos como veronika, y tenemos la sensacion de estar en dos lados o mas a la vez, es esa sensacion de estar incompletos, excelente film y musica, MI FAVORITO beautiful movie and the death scene is the strongest of all, I think we are all like veronika, and we have the feeling of being on two sides or more at a time, is that feeling of incompleteness, excellent film and music, MY FAVORITE
I really want to sing this amazing piece from my favorite movie. Does someone knows were I can find the score of this soundtrack or this part in particular?

Guillaume 1.

Something Hollywood unable to accomplish.
such a wonderful timeless film. the puppeteer scene is one of the most beautiful scenes in the history of cinema imo.
That is the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard. Hauntingly beautiful.
there are no words to describe what I feel when I listen to this ....
Such a beautiful movie in every sense...

This is the most beautiful thing in the entire world.
1:45 - 1:52: the most beautiful piece of dissonance I've ever heard. What an absolutely incredible voice.
oh, tu que eres una barca frágil
dispuesto a escuchar mis palabras
sigue mi nave
canta y navega
no vayas a favor del viento
porque cuando pierdas mi rastro
te quedarías perdida
Yo soy el mar
nunca viajó
Minerva me inspira
Apolo me lleva
Bouleversant.
i am crying but i dont undestand. that is language of music
It made me crying too and I think this is because this piece has both beauty and tragedy in it. Cheerful songs or pieces don't have such power.
There is piece of another Polish composer, Henryk Górecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs- Lento e largo and it's even more tragic. Especially knowing the history behind it.
The language Is italian. From Dante Alighieri, secondo Canto del 'Paradiso' dalla Divina Commedia.
Lindo filme, linda musica, lidna Irene JAcob...São Paulo-Brasil
Meraviglia assoluta💖💖💖
Superbe film et bande musicale !
It's like an angel sings out of her voice. Beautiful.

This brings tears to my eyes. I can´t find adequate words to describe this.
Piękno zaklęte w misterium...
intolerably beautiful
O, wy, co w wątłej płyniecie łupinie
chciwi słuchania, w ślad za mym okrętem,
który śpiewając ponad głębię płynie,
wróćcie za lądu ostatnim zakrętem,
ni się na pełne nie puszczajcie morze,
bo się zabłąkać łatwo nad odmętem!

It Has always made me cry in the inside
