  • In this tutorial, you'll learn how to create a very simple and functional cage that will hole most flat and round stone shapes without needing a drilled hole in the stone.

    Thanks for this I actually made it and wow it looks pretty good. Remember I am a newbie. I used a glass cabochon and finally I found a pattern that looks good and will wrap it because they have no hole. Thanks Matt ♥

    I welcome this wrap. So much you can do with it. I'm a beginner. This tutorial was much appreciated. I had wire left, so I put few wraps in back. You guys rock.

    Fun effect. It's almost like a viking knit. If you'd half hitch over your weaving wire it might keep them tight as you go around. I dig it though!

    It may have been an 'experiment', Matt, but you nailed it!! I had even spent a morning with a jewelry maker once, both of us trying to create that same look, using a jig, even trying wire crochet which didn't look even or graceful. I finally have a beautiful edging for my round agate Irish Prayer Stones. Thank you and happy creating!!

    So many good things. The stone is a beauty and I'm glad you let it shine without wire on top of it. This design reminds me of netting or viking weave, but your technique is way easier. I can't wait to give it a go.

    Very cool. Love that stone. This technique is very similar to a cabochon wrap I have seen before. But I think they threaded and secured the back before threading the front so they could get a tighter wrap on the front dome part.

    Very pretty and gives me an idea of what to do with a special aquamarine slab I bought. BUT, if something is easy, I will find a way to make it hard, LOL. Just how I roll. So I think I will make smaller loops and possibly an extra row if necessary. In the loops I will thread on a bead so when I do the tightening wire I can go around the wire on one side of the bead, then diagonally across the bead and around the wire on the other side of the bead. What do you think? I kind of like a lot of beads in things.

      @kathleenralston2192 5 лет назад +1

      Hmmm. That would probably be beyond my tech skills, LOL. Being older it seems I no sooner learn how to do something and it's old technology. I JUST finally figured out how to put a profile picture on here, so I used one of my recent pieces for my photo. If anyone can explain to me how to do a demo, or even share a photo, I will do the piece with the aquamarine slab and show you what I mean.

    Matt essentially you are on your way to making a dream catcher. If you had continued on til the entire circle was enclosed, it would have basically been a dream catcher. Maybe thats why it triggered a memory cord?? It turned out beautifully btw🍃🤗🍃

    Hi Matt! I love your wire wraps! That tool I mentioned in another video, they're called: round nose plyers, and it really makes it a lot easier to make loops, than the way you're currently doing it. It's not sorcery, I promise!

  • @darlenepurcell
    @darlenepurcell Месяц назад

    This is similiar to wrapping a dream catcher except you would loop into a knot with each wrap instead of just threading through each half circle . Kewl wire wrap. Would be even more ornate if you added small crystals while wrapping each loop.

  • @sdmcdaniel2255

    I just had a thought. Perhaps you could have also anchored the wire by coiling it through the hole first, then made your bail. I'm new to wire wrapping (I've done one piece, using one of your tutorials 😁), so this maybe why I thought of it. By anchoring your wire that way, it wouldn't go anywhere while you were creating your 'chain' loops and you could make it more decorative, if you wanted. I think it turned out great! I just think maybe for us newbies, anchoring the wire in the hole of the agate, would make it more secure as we are learning.
