      In a movie about dinosaurs, the fact that they did that with the perfect couple of protagonists feels as upsetting as some of the other flaws.

    • @MaaZeus
      @MaaZeus 2 года назад +10

      It is a tired old trope that Hollywood always does. An obvious couple in one movie and divorced (or otherwise separated) in the other. I don't know why they keep doing it, its almost like lasting happy relationships are not a thing for them. 😅

      @@MaaZeus It's like they always need couples' drama, even when everything is perfect and it's about two people as calm as Alan and Ellie, they have to put the drama and sadness somewhere, I need comfort at least in a movie

      As a kid and an adult, I've always found the shipping between Ellie and Alan to be... Odd at best. She is his student! She is still in college and in her early 20s while Alan is PAST 40. The gap is concerning and the fact that Alan is her professor just always made it, to me, not a viable ship. On top of that, although Alan learns by the end of the movie to appreciate children, he makes no indication of whether he actually wants any. He clearly didn't, and now that Ellie's children are grown up it makes sense if after Dominion they get together

    Trivia: The Spinosaurus was the largest animatronic ever built. It was 25 feet high, its length reaching around 40 feet long, weighing 24,000 Ibs, and was operated by hydraulics. This allowed it to operate while completely submerged in water. It ended just behind the hip, so any shot that shows more than this had to be computer-generated. According to an interview with William H. Macy, he said this movie's animatronic Spinosaurus had a one thousand-horsepower motor and that creature could turn its head at twice the force of gravity with the tip of its nose moving at a speed of more than one hundred miles per hour.

      I really don't understand these comments saying it was cruel. They were together at the start and end of the first movie. At the start of this movie its more of a "wait a minute" moment when the husband comes in. Which was done for story so there was a logical line of thinking for how a random ass paleo botanist got the military to go out there. I could see them not being together in this one being cruel if in the first one you were rooting for their developing relationship and say a 3rd guy/girl was involved that might have separated them. But there wasn't, they started together and ended together and then they are not randomly no. Shock, yes, cruel no.

      @@promontorium You didn't get my comment. I don't understand how its cruel. And I explained my rational behind that. How people were "tricked" into thinking Allan was Charley's dad is obvious. I can understand Quimey's line of thinking, even if I don't believe it to be on the level of cruel. But some people are more sensitive to certain things. Characters loosing a dog in a movie will get me, as will some scenes in military movies. "They can go in the water?" So funny you should ask! Ever since this movie came out, we've learned more and more information about Spinosaurus, until we're now at the point where all the evidence points to it being a primarily marine hunter, not terrestrial. Adapted to aquatic environments like rivers rather than land--which the sail on its back would have helped with. This also means there's not a chance in hell a Spinosaurus would've won a fight against T.Rex, unless maybe the T.Rex happened to fall in the water (and even if Spino had been a land predator, T.Rex had a much sturdier build and stronger bite force so yeah, Hollywood occasionally gets caught up in chasing a "Bigger than T.Rex" craze).
    If you google Spinosaurus images today, the most current recreations can be as far removed from this movie as you can get. So ironically, even though JP3 was kind of its big moment in the spotlight, the animal it portrays is now as mythical as a fantasy dragon.

    • @walter1383
      @walter1383 2 года назад +6

      Even though its way outdated now, for its time the creature design for the JP3 spino was ahead of the curve as far as accuracy is concerned regarding what was known about the animal, which is pretty impressive. That said, I really wish it was a real animal existing alongside the IRL Spinosaurus, lol!

    • @zachzitzow8306
      @zachzitzow8306 2 года назад +1

      No that was offcially disproven the sail would make spino a terrible underwater swimmer its not that flexible and get caught in the current it can not do the death roll like crocodiles, in fact every time spinosaurus went to the water it had to complete with sarcosuchus the giant 40ft dino eating crocodile and the predecessor of nile crocodiles would give spino w tough time. Spinosaurus may of been specialized but not a pick eater. And there is its nostrils they are just inches away from the eyes and not at the end of the snout, if spinosaurus was fully aquatic it would sick its whole head out of water thats makes it vulnerable.

    • @VelociraptorsOfSkyrim
      @VelociraptorsOfSkyrim 2 года назад +9

      @@zachzitzow8306 How was it officially disproven?
      Cause there was a paper released in March that literally says that it was a mostly Aquatic predator. The density of the bones was compared to that of Hippos and Penguins, both mostly Aquatic animals.
      Besides, Sarcosuchus existing doesn't mean that Spinosaurus couldn't possibly have been Aquatic.
      There is a concept called Niche Partitioning. Basically, you can have multiple large Alpha predators in a single ecosystem as long as the two animals don't directly compete for resources.
      Dinosaurs vs Fish, or maybe even Generalist vs Specialized. Or maybe Sarcosuchus hunted a very specific number of animals while Spinosaurus hunted a completely separate number of animals.

They weren’t leftovers, Ingen was secretly working on new dinosaurs for the upcoming park. There’s also some evidence suggesting the Spino is extra aggressive because it was a hybrid test, an experiment that led to the Indominus Rex.

      @@GuillaumeG-oz3hz There are few things about The Lost World that sour me to it. The whole InGen hunting party scene just feels like a toy commercial with it's wide variety of gimmicky vehicles, there's what I consider a HUGE plot hole with Sarah running around with the baby T-Rex's blood all over it and _nobody points out why this would be a bad idea_ to say nothing of the ship crew just mysteriously dying on their own because they didn't even film the scene of the raptors killing them. And that's on top of the more popular criticisms like the film's overall preachiness, and what I personally find a rather mean-spirited film overall.
      I find Jurassic Park 3 to be more consistent with the first film in tone if not in quality. It has that "amusement park ride" feel to it that The Lost World didn't have.

    One thing I should note about the Spinosaurus in this film is that it is an outdated depiction of the animal.
    Currently, Spinosaurus is recognized as being semi-aquatic with shorter hind legs compared to other theropod dinosaurs, with a flat tail used like a paddle, and a jaw and teeth suited for catching fish and smaller dinosaurs.
    Regarding it compared to T Rex, while Spino is bigger, T Rex had more body mass to it since it was better adapted to hunting larger, more heavily built prey, so an actual fight between the two (which itself wouldn’t happen since T Rex and Spinosaurus lived millions of years apart from each other in North America and North Africa, respectively) would end with a Rex victory.

      Just for the sake of an argument say that the movie Spino was real. The second T-Rex clamped down on the back of his neck in the opening seconds of their fight it would have been over with the Spino suffering from a crushed spinal cord. T-Rex's teeth were designed for crushing bones.
