Would I normally do as I make friends with a person nearby. Tell them go ahead go in the water I’ll watch your stuff for you. No problem you do the same for me when you come back will alternate back-and-forth. Never bring your passport with you and leave it on the beach at all. I take my passport and I tape it on the inside of the room safe or I use a binder clip and clip it in the top of the curtains the first fold of the curtains up at the top. You just use a binder clip and your passport safe.. I bring a roll of painters tape and I put piece of paper over my passport and then tape it to the ceiling of the safe so if someone opens the safe looking for a easy score, there’s nothing in the safe but a little bait wallet that I can bring with me. With a bunch of used up gift cards. This is only possible if the safe is down low if the safe is up high they’re looking in at the roof of the safe in the spot you’re stash taped to the top inside. Another good hiding spot is inside the boxspring if there is a boxspring lift up on the corner, make a little incision, slip your stuff in there about a footer back from the incision. The incision needs to be big enough to get your arm in there. Another spot is under a standing lamp right back the board on the bottom and stash your stuff inside and then put the board back stand up the lamp. No one knows the difference tons of good hiding spots. Never ever bring your passport with you make a photocopy and put it inside of a plastic bag and drop it in your fanny pack.
I always have a copy of my passport but to say never bring it with you is unrealistic. I didn't plan on going to the beach as you saw, but personally I feel safer when its in my possession. At least if I lose it, it's on me. To me the safest place to keep your passport is with you if you're in a hotel or airbnb especially. Those safes are a joke. You can tape it to the top but anyone can unbolt and take the whole thing. I've seen them ripped out of walls. Then what. Also, trusting a complete stranger to me is riskier than leaving it and keeping my eye on it. There's no fail-safe way you just have to avoid bad luck and plan as best you can.

To go where no tourists dare to go... except the Barefoot Vlogger. You definitely need another visit as there are so many beaches you missed in Phuket not to mention Koh Samui and Hua Hin.

What a great way to end my trip to Phuket
The seafood markets usually don’t open till later for the evening trade and for the fishermen to come back in with the days catch so its fresh, I asked our friendly pool guy at the resort we stayed at , he teed us up with a local taxi guy for day excursions, best places to eat n best non touristy spots. I wasn’t fond of Phuket until we met our taxi guy n he showed us a different side of Phuket away from the tourist hustle.
It's best to open later. Makes sense because it was in the mid 90s and all that fish sitting out wouldn't be good. It all worked out for the best.
