About the investigation plot hole, I'm pretty sure the police was present. I also played this game pretty recently and I myself filled those plot holes with my imagination with hints from the game though. I don't believe they were incompetent at all, any coroner with eyes could tell immediately that Mari died of some kind of blunt trauma, not hanging. As soon as they knew that it wasn't hanging, they would question Sunny, as he was the last person to be alone with her. This would reveal to the parents what happened, it wouldn't be too hard connecting the dots. By knowing the truth it explains why his father left and his not seen in the game at all (also the sequence of him cutting down the tree where she was hanged, and telling Sunny he was not his son), plus his mother breaking down from failing to protect Mari but still wanting to protect Sunny, because it's the only thing she has left from their broken family. This made me believe that the parents knew the truth, but also never disclosed it to the public (due to shame? fear? rumors?? we will never know). And since they were minors, probably Sunny's mom was able to protect him somehow due to the trauma he suffered (he probably went through questioning etc and was given a green pass after seeing how bad he was mentally). This also furthers the guilt of Sunny not wanting to reveal the truth to his friends, because it ruined his parents relationship, the rest of his family basically, with his father never forgiving him and his mother breaking down, meaning the same could happen with them.

Also, I don't know a lot about criminal law, but I believe criminal proceedings largely depend on where your jurisdiction is, the severity of the crime and context both from other testimonies and the defendant. Sunny being 12 and his guilt would spare him from a full on criminal conviction, since it's only juveniles over 14 that can be prosecuted in an adult court and it would be easy for a criminal psychologist to tell both at the scene of the crime and during the questioning his actions were an accident and left him in a deep state of guilt and trauma. It also wouldn't count as murder, but manslaughter since Sunny killed her in the heat of stress but only meant to push her away, which would carry a lesser sentence (about 10 months to 20 years depending on severity and local law, possibly with bail) than if it was full on murder (30 years to life/death sentence, no bail.)

In my opinion, it's not a plot hole if it can be reasonably explained without contradicting any facts. This particular issue has been discussed at length on Reddit which I've read a ton of posts on as soon as I finished the game. It has been confirmed that in America (I'm not from the US which is why I phrase it this way), at least in some places, autopsies are not performed if there's reasonable cause to suspect suicide or death from illness. The family has to opt in, and it actually costs them money. I can see Sunny's parents refusing to perform the autopsy. Perhaps even Sunny's mother convinced his dad not to opt in which later caused his separation from the family. (There's also this dialogue in Blackspace 2: *You hear MOM crying softly. "There, there... SUNNY... We'll protect you... Everything will be okay...* ) It certainly IS a better question to consider how Basil, a ~12 year old, was able to lift and hang a ~15 year old girl all by himself, although it's partially resolved by the fact that him doing it all by himself is cut content and not 100% canon, as well as Mari being incredibly light. The lesson that we should take away here is not that plot holes are alright and can be overlooked. They're not. It's just that if there is a plausible explanation, it's no longer a plot hole whether or not the explanation explicitly exists in canon.

i actually liked the combat and it felt fun even after completing all achievements. and i really didnt think about plot holes too much, just filled them in myself like: there probably was an investigation but since it was an accident and both sunny and basil are underage so the police didnt do anything or something like that. although it is a stretch i really didnt think about that too much.

Omori was such a game that I will never be able to re-expirence. The criticism to the game and story is valid too. Personally the plotholes in the story always me stumped and laugh. However I wasnt too bothered by the story as I suppose nobody bat an idea with the idea that mari had so much stacked on her to kill herself.
And yes Basil lifts 70000 pounds daily mari was nothing to him. Just a dust particle.

It was just me nitpicking, really. The main point of the game is how OMORI and friends will get over their demons and past trauma, not whether they’d be punished by the legal system or not. Still, I’d like to cover it because it’s kind of immersion-breaking for some people.

The plothole thing doesn't really bother me. I like how OMOCAT didn't write the process in detail so it can be interpret by the players. People interpretion is fun to watch and I alway have new perspective on the truth and thats fun lol.
Like If You want plothole, there are also so many to say, like:
Why nobody do anything to stop them when Aubrey's group is picking a fight to Sunny and Kel?
Why nobody ever try to catch Kel's basketball when it was thrown to them?
Why Kel cannot buy the cookbook when he can litterally buy a whole bag of candies?
At this point, I dont think plotholes really matter that much and we all know OMOCAT was mainly focus on the action and outcomes and I think they did a good job on it.

SPOILER WARNING (I had the ending spoiled, and I believe that's why this plot contrivance bothers me more than most people):
I feel like Basil deciding to fake Mari's death was a little bit forced. I don't really see how "Oh no, my friend accidentally killed his sister, let's fake her death" is a realistic reaction to the situation. Now, you could explain this away by saying that he was in shock and not thinking straight, but I don't really feel like that's a good enough explanation.

He took photos of the things he treasured most, the things he was most scared of losing, and those things just so happened to be everyone (even those he wasn't as close with). Taking into account that Sunny was his best friend, I just always assumed that it was because he didn't want something bad to happen to Sunny, especially after just having lost Mari.

anyway this video is amazing. i 100% get all the criticisms for the game but i can not agree with almost any of them. almost every aspect people don’t like is actually something i really liked about the game… i felt like there was a variety of things to do in battle and the story was nearly flawless to me. i’m lucky as hell to find out of this game’s existence years after it came out (even though i was already told about mari’s death before playing, still every twist worked amazingly)
headspace in my opinion is extremely important to the plot, there is so much foreshadowing there and the amount of similarites to the real world is very interesting to me. it also gives a lot of insight on the earlier events of the main characters’ lives.
the only thing that bothered me about the game was that i wish there was a little more story, but maybe that’s what makes it so great…

    • @noux
      @noux  Год назад +2

No, that's fair. I never meant to present any of my opinions as fact. I absolutely advocate for being critical of games you love, because once you can become critical of them, you can appreciate them more for what the have managed to offer despite all the adversaries. Many love the game but do they remember how people had to wait close to 8 years for it to come out? Do they take the time to appreciate how the game was meticulously balanced to cater for player experience, even if it failed in the end? No. So many praise the game while almost having overlooked all of the other not-so-great aspects of it, which makes them take for granted how the game was able to offer what many other games have could not. I mean, some games don't even release, let alone deliver what they had promised.
That's what makes OMORI so great in my opinion. It is not only a banger game, but it is also a game that, the deeper you look into it, the more you come to appreciate how it was made and how hard the developers must have worked for the final project to come out as good as it did. Many people who complain about the game, I don't see as haters, I see them as fans, of the truest kind because only them would care enough about the game to criticize it. You wouldn't complain about something you don't care about. Of course, there are real haters, but often, you'll find their arguments often hold no substance either because they didn't play the game or they didn't even try to understand the game for what it is.
