LaMelo is a perfect example that not everyone will shoot the same. Does he have some mechanics that should be tweaked? Absolutely, but he's walking proof that we don't all have to fit in the same cookie cutter form to get results. Thanks for watching! Coach C.
The Ball Bros are not ideal examples to teach shooting form, by any stretch of the imagination. Look at Lonzo's oddball form, and he's a draft months away from being in the NBA! Its true, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and I don't really see any of the Ball Bros changing their form at all. Their daddy even said so. If it works for them so be it, but I wouldn't teach any of my players that goofy form! Shoot, if a guy like Shawn Marion or Kevin Martin can go their entire NBA careers with ugly looking mechanics, it shows you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
I knew a kid on The high school team who shot from the chest as well. He did it because he was weak. Didn't have the strength to shoot with proper form. In the last few as one the best shooters on the team. But the major drawback is that when you shoot from the chest like he did you have to be open in order to get your shot off or you'll get blocked. So you're somewhat limited in shot opportunities.
100% right, Coach. If you were a D-1 College coach, would you even consider having him on your team (given his horrible shot, lack of upper body strength & Ball family bullcrap)?
Curry re learned his mechanics and it paid off big time, I think these kids just learned to shoot to young when the ball was super heavy and one handed shooting wasn't possible. The better end result would be to learn better mechanics if you ask me, they might shoot well without changing it but they would shoot better long term if they learned correct mechanics it's not an accident Ray Allen was the best shooter of all time..
Ball rotation and consistency with great arc are all you need to hit consistent shots. If you find a form for you that allows you to do all that comfortably and is easily repeatable, doesn't matter your form. Coach always has the right small tweaks to any jumper. Pick tips from here and there and soon you'll be golden...thanks for everything coach, without these videos who knows where I'd be
At first I was totally against melo’s shot style and form. But after I tried it out, I was astonished at the improvement in my own shot. His style gave me so much power which gave my shot heaps more height. I wouldn’t say I would do everything little thing he does, but I’m starting to get consistent with my three pointers, which is saying something.
yes, while I generally agree with your premise. But I really feel that Lonzo's shooting technique (and by the way, he is by far my favorite college player) really hurts his game. The only positive thing about it, aside from getting results, is that it's weird and unconventional and can surprise defenders. But a right handed player who cannot go to his right to get a shot off off the dribble is a problem. I think Lamelo's desire to shoot it from everywhere is unfortunately creating a problematic shooting technique as well. But there is still time to fix it.
I 100% agree! I think Lonzo is at the point where he is gonna need a tweak or two (specifically his shot line) and just like you mentioned NBA teams will pick up on that. The good news is for him and LaMelo both I think all the issues are easy fixes and doesn't have to be a full rebuild like some coaches would tell ya.
I think Lonzo's is one of the most natural bball players to come around in a long time and I really think he can make those tweaks especially for his closer to the basket game. I agree, I don't think he needs a rebuild, but he really needs to work on that right side.
So, I gotta buddy who very recently had a knee surgery, put him out of a lot of games for a few months. He wasn’t allowed to drive or any physical basketball plays when he did come back, as more time was needed to heal, but he could shoot. He shot exactly like this, but splashed from half court at around 80%. After not having played any sport for MONTHS. I myself was never a great shooter, but also not awful, so I decided to try this lamelo form, (I really had nothing to lose) and ya, it really really works. It’s weird, but it really works.
Hey, I'd like to give a quick thanks to shot mechanics. I was an awful shooter before I saw this and I was so frustrated to the point where I didn't even want to practice my shot but about 5-6 days ago I watched this video and broke it down in to pieces and tried applying some of LaMelo's mechanics into my shot, eventually I found that the wrist snap worked wonders for me! I can actually make jumpers consistently and I am much more efficient from the floor. Thanks, again, ShotMechanics!
got injured at my right ankle then getting motivated by watching Collin's vids wish this could get better so I can use his tips to improve my basketball skills
hey i have a idea, could you talk about shot line set point and shoting eye, some people say that if you are rigth eye dominant iy should see the basket and others that you should have the shot line and setpoint on the rigth side!!
Actually, the more arc your shot has doesn't mean the higher chance it has of going in; for a low arc, it's harder to judge how high the ball needs to go, but for a high arc, it's harder to judge how far the ball needs to go. The best arc possible (obviously that doesn't mean you should change your arc) is a 90° arc. That means that if you drew a line from the center of the rimb to your set point, your shot should create a 45° angle with that line. Your shot's arc degrees is always twice as much as your shot's angle degrees. For example, a 90° shot will end up with a 180° arc, where the ball comes straight back down. A 0° shot makes a 0° arc, actually it's more than 0° but it's less than 0 compared to the basket. A 180° shot is a backward 0° shot, ending up with the same thing, a 360° arc, basically 0° but backwards... Now That's not always true because your set point is not on the ground and the basket is higher than your set point... So your 45° shot will be a little bit more than 45° compared the the ground, or the perpendicular of the direction of gravity. I don't know if that made any sense, but a 45° shot for a 90° arc is the perfect balance between distance amd height. But, that's not accounting for the third dimension, left or right, but that has to do with your body alignment...
So stupid. He's a brilliant shooting coach and probably would dominate almost any gym he went to. He probably isn't an athletic freak or has the size to play in the NBA.
Two handed shots are not bad It's is your personal shot if you shoot more accurate with one hand shoot with 1 if you shoot better with 2 hand or 3 or 0 hands don't change all that matters when your shooting is if you make it so if it ain't broke don't fix it if I was him I would not change that 2 handed shot at all or if anyone shoot better like that keep it
Boy it amazes me on how he makes the shot but I've been shooting and trying to find my shot for over a year now I have looked at almost every video thts on RUclips on how to shoot correctly and has even tweaked it for me to be more comfortable and my shot no where near goes in as more ch as this kid

@shotMechanics thanks for all your help ive been working on my shot and it took me a week and now all i have left to work on is contested 3's much thanks and love fam !!
I think that a thumb flick is what's better for some shooters. It helps keep the release going straight towards the basket. I also think it gives players a lot more range i.e. Steph Curry and Kyrie Irving use one as opposed to James Harden and Lebron James and I think we can agree James and Harden don't quite have the same range as Curry and Irving. I personally use a thumb flick and It works pretty well. I tried to get rid of it but eventually gave up because I shot so much better with it and my release felt a lot smoother. BTW I'm a Senior in high school, my picture is from a while ago.
