- In this video, we're going to explore the secrets and easter eggs in Super Mario Bros. 3.
Explanations of the secrets:
Bowser's Secret Room
Use a P Wing to clip to the secret room as shown in the video. Once you are about to fight Bowser, fly to the top left corner of the screen until you a reach a second Bowser room. If you fly back to the previous room, Bowser will be almost unable to hurt you.
Treasure Ship
You must be in either Grass Land, Water Land, Sky Land or Ice Land and a Hammer Bro Enemy Course must be on the map. You must finish a stage with a Coin total ending in a multiple of 11 (zero doesn't count). The tens digit of your score must match the multiple of 11.
White Mushroom House
Collect a certain number of coins in a certain level. In this case, I had to collect 44 coins in World 3-8.
Chain Chomp Breaks Free:
Let the Chain Chomp pull on his chain 50 times or wait

Same. I knew all of these except for the glitch fight at the beginning and I have no idea how kid me could have known except having nothing better to do. =P And I never saw the Wizard, either.
I knew all this stuff as a kid. Some of it I figured out for myself (the alternate routes in World 8, mostly), but the majority I learned from stuff like Nintendo Power and game hint books. I'm guessing you folks either learned it from the same or a friend told you about it. There was no way I'd've figured out stuff like White Mushroom Houses and Coin Ships on my own when I was 10.
Did you guys know this one? Use a P-Wing before entering a stage where you get a tanooki suit in an item block (there are very few). Ta-da, you will be P-Wing Tanooki!
I did. It was some levels in World 5 and (I think) World 6 or 7.
*Terrance Turner* In world 4 it was at level 5, in world 5 it was at the very first fortress and the first level of the sky section. World 6 has it at level 3 and world 7 has it at the first fortress.
*DWN-019 Gemini Man* Not really, it's useless in underwater levels (and levels that are confine such as the fortresses) as you can't use your tail in those and the statue transformation only makes you sink even further.

(I could overlook the impressive breath holding, because people can actually do that.)

The Chain Chomp thing blew my mind for a minute.. I NEVER knew that!
I knew that one. The chain breaks after exactly 50 times it pulls against it.
The only one I didn't know about ( that wasn't a glitch to begin with ) is the 8 - 2 secret pipe by sinking through the quicksand.

Even after Super Mario Maker? It's pretty obvious in that game.
Having the coin ship is simple. Finish the stage with your coins being a multiple of 11 and have your score ending in a multiple of 10 matching the number of your coins.
For example: 22 coins and your score ending with 20. 55 coins and your score ending with 50.
François Jacques Actually, it’s slightly more complicated than that; 1. You must be in worlds 1, 3, 5, or 6, 2. You were right about the amount of coins being a multiple of 11 3. Ditto with the points 4. And most importantly, stop the timer at the end of the level on an even number. Although it is possible to stop it on an odd number, it’s easier with even because you’re guaranteed a multiple of 100 in the final score (50 points per second).
The chain chomp breaking it's chain was the only real "eureka" moment for me

You have to finish a level with your coins on a multiple of 11 (22, 44, 77, etc.), then have the 10's digit (2nd number from the right) match those numbers. That will turn a wandering hammer bro on the world map into a treasure ship. It only works on worlds 1, 3, 5 & 6.

My cousin found it by accident and we kept trying to duplicate it again. Super Mario Advance 4 made it easier to attain it.
And also for it to work, the Timer needs to be on an EVEN number when you clear the stage, otherwise the trick won't work. That is another key factor for the trick!

Remember doing all of that when i was a kid... brings back a lot of memories... this is the BEST Mario Bros game ever... 😊

pra mim, SMB3 sempre será o melhor porque foi o primeiro Mario que eu joguei e mesmo tendo outros jogos grandes e maravilhosos como SM64 e Maker o fator nostalgia fala mais alto :)

You just made me realize a couple of mistakes I made in my childhood.
always felt that the tanoki suit and .the hammer suit never got the credit they deserved, maybe because they only appeared at certain points in game, you never really got to use them

Meeting the treasure ship requirements is easier when you understand these bits: 1) Breaking bricks gives you 10 points, so that's the easiest way to manipulate the tens digit of your score after you've collected a multiple of 11 coins. 2) Each second on the timer will give you 50 points. If you've already matched your coin multiple to the tens digit of your score make sure there is an even number on the timer when you tag the goal. Otherwise, make sure it will end up with the correct multiple when 50 points are added to your score. So a score of XXXXX30 and 88 coins would be fine if you tag the goal with the timer on an odd number, You'll end up with XXXXX80 and 88 coins. 3) The timer speed is variable. It slows significantly when Mario is running full speed. 4) Enemies that are still on the screen when you tag the goal will each give you a coin (even defeated enemies that haven't disappeared yet). If you already have a multiple of 11 coins and you are at the end of the stage, clear any enemies on the screen before tagging the goal.

Super mario bros 3 was my first and only game for years.....i always told myself i knew everything about this game....time to put it to the test
So the glitched bowser was the one i never knew as a child. What i did find out though back then is that if you do that crouch jump on the last statue it will take you to bowsers room as well.
When I was a kid, I would move my head in circles to that music. 3:28 Specially for the longer version when visiting the king for the first time. That’s how my neck got thick as fuck!
Also with Hammers you can kill Boos, Thwomps, and the little walking fire things that sometimes follow out of lamps/candles. With the Tanooki suit you can stomp those spinning flashy circle discs, but you have to transform into a statue in mid-air (down + B) so that you land on them while in statue form.
The treasure ship is the beginning New super Mario Bros. 2!!!!!
Weird. Never knew about some of this stuff like the King having extra dialog or the chain chomp attacking.
I had the captions on, and when it said COINS constantly, I'm starting to think you're enjoying those big circles of gold way too much...! XD JK that was awesome!! I loved the glitches and everything else... if only I were able to know these things if I were my young self!

WHOA! Of all the 28 years I was playing this game,I did NOT know you can be invulnerable to Bowser's stomp attack while ducking with a P-Wing! INSANE!
I don't think it's the P-wing that makes him invincible. It going over to that room on the left and coming back. That's also why he's not breathing his fire.
Ducking is what makes you invulnerable to Bowser's stomp, whether you have a P-wing or not. If you're small, you can just run right under him. You can still get hit by his flaming breath though.
@@jerryroy5198 Mario isn't invincible by using that P-wing trick, it just stops Bowser from breathing fire. If you don't duck, you can stll get hit by Bowser.
Not sure ducking and not moving stops bowser hurting you? I appreciate the secret room "glitch " but as with most of the old school nintendo games, a game genie was your best friend.
@@cecilplongbody8259 Have you tried it? It's a fact, Bowser can't stomp on you or touch you at all if you duck (or if you're small). But as I said, his flaming breath can still singe you.
The true secret to the treasure ship, if you use the anchor power-up when the treasure ship appeared, no matter how many times you died at the ship, the ship will never change back to be the hammer bros., allowing you to always come back to get as many coins as you like I think.

World 1 game 4 if you get all the coins you get the white hidden mushroom.
Also I think the ship has something to do with ending with even numbers regardless of where you're located, I've gotten it in world one but it's very rare.
Theres also a hidden mushroom on every world by getting all the coins, you will be able to tell midway when the game makes it obvious by giving you many hard coins to get.
I played this while I was a child and it's one my favorite games of all time, I discovered these secrets throughout the years without help except by losing a bunch of times and getting the Super P.

The Super Mario Bros 2 (LL) had its first secret in flagpole if u finish with coins divisible by 11 matched with ones digit of the timer. Anyway, world 5-1 also has a secret that will lead you to a box. World 3-7 also. And some pipes on underwater levels that can only be entered via frog suit due to pressure on nearby pipes. And the list goes on.
Man, now I really want a 3D remake of this.

Most of these "secrets" were already revealed in the guide book that came out in 1990. The only new one is the trick for eliminating Bowser's fireballs.

I discovered a glitch in 1 of the desert levels, where I cut STRAIGHT through a brick pyramid! And it wasn't a small one, either.
Great video! ...actually the thing about the Treasure Ship and the White Toad House it appears depending on how many coins have you collected in the level. There is the quantity of coins confirmed by Nintendo.

Condition that need to be met at the end of a level for Treasure Ship to spawn:
1: Must be in World 1, 3, 5, or 6.
2: There must be a Hammer Brother still alive on the overworld map.
3: Must finish a level and when you go back to overworld map, the number in the ones & tens digit for the coin counter and the tens digit in in score counter must be the same (For example: $77 XXXXX7X). Because Ending the level with the number in the ones digit as an odd number add 5 onto the number in the tens digit for the score counter, there are two ways to do it: End with XXXXX[#]X and timer is XX0 XX2 XX4 XX6 XX8, or End with XXXXX[#-5]0 and timer is XX1 XX3 XX5 XX7 XX9.
Chain chomp breaks after 50 pulls, or after 100 seconds. I love details like that. We can't find these secrets in newer games...

Another good trick if you can time it right is in 2-1, jump off the brick guys, and eventually you'll get 8,000 points for kicking a turtle (troopa)! Provided you never touch the ground, it's a tough trick, but cool as hell for getting those many points for a kick!

The "Bowser can't breathe fire" glitch only requires you to fly over the wall once. You don't need to fly back over again.
funny story, the whistle in the castle was featured on the film the wizard before the game came out, so me and my friend knew it was there from the second we bought the game, and the world1 area 3 one was also well known, but i think that was shown on games master or something.
You get another white mushroom house in world 1-4 if you get enough coins. I want to say it's 44 coins.

Dang I thought I knew all the secrets but the warp whistle in world 2...never knew. Also the chomp dogs. This video could really use some voice over though. Also missed all of the mushroom houses in water world when you take the canoe.

i was playing the all-star version of this and i remember a ship that popped out of no where and i got a hammer from it. i think it happened somewhere between world 4-6
Oh and the secret to the treasure ship is to have a coin count that's a multiple of 11 (22, for example) and your score that same number in the tens digits (so like 17820, where the 2 is the same).

I found a new secret in the world 3-7. That world where appear a little monsters that throw you spiked balls. Go find the climbing plant, then go up. After then go to the right side and jump over a line of clouds. Now jump to activate a hidden music's block. Then jump over the block and you will arrive in a bonus area "Coin heavens". At the end of this area there is a chest containing a Jugems (lakitu's) cloud which allows you to skip levels in SMB3
This is why this is the best Mario game ever

On 3:23 if ur score had a 5 in the tens place along with the coins being in a multiple of 11, and the timer is an equal nunber, u could had got the coin ship

Fun, educational video. Will keep me ahead of my 4-year old for at least two days. But of course it shows NOT all secrets. At least one more I know of: If you beat the game and restart immediately (thank goodness for emulators and save states!), you reputedly restart with a large number of p-wing items.
That's what Mario is all about. There is no clean walkthrough you have to cheat your way to beat it otherwise it would be an unbeatable game.
You don't need to do any glitches to reach the second Bowser room, going the lower path gives you the second layout

Some of you fellas know about bowser's secret room, but skipping the angry sun is challenging. You must have to do some triggers to allow yourself to skip Dat angreh sun.

Toads white mushroom house is on every level I think, if you finish stage 1-4 with either 44 coins or by grabbing every coin on that you'll get it, don't remember which one sadly. Maybe the total coins on the stage is simply 44.
It usually appeared after clearing an even number level for example in World 1, it appeared after Level 4 is cleared whereas in World 2, it appeared after Level 2 is cleared and in World 3 after Level 8 is cleared.

Is the little lake in the last secret also a secret?
Probably not,but it's just because the lake is in the form of a III,the roman number for 3,and this is SMB3
UJK 10H Peach claims there is a whistle in World 3 in one of her messages. Although it's actually in World 2, the secret oasis in World 2 looks a lot like World 3 and the "III" located there possibly means it's a secret area in World 3 that is only accessable from World 2.
