    actually big daddy kane said, that back in the day freestyle was actually a written verse with no specific topic, and that they didnt respect rappers who came off the dome because they werent critiqued as hard as rappers that wrote rhymes, because they were all about who can write better, it was later that the term freestyle started to be used for rapping off the dome because so many people started misusing the word...

    I feel you I'm an old head but dude is right...freestyles don't necessarily mean off the top anymore. It changed in the early 2000s when cats would bring prewritten metaphors in. Now, just about every Hot 97 freestyle is prewritten, and taken straight off a phone. It sucks but its true. You have to have your ammunition ready nowadays. Sad, because you and I both know what a TRUE FREESTYLE is

      He was absolutely correct labeling them as metaphors. Metaphorically, he is comparing mars to a kickball. Metaphors are comparing to unlike things, kickballs and Mars, without using a comparing word, which it isn't used. It would be a simile if he used a comparing word, such as I use Mars as a kickball, as being the comparing word.

    To anyone saying Kendrick is overrated. Y'all kill me with that shit, LOL. If you don't know nothing about rap, don't open your lips. Seen some people comparing Logic to Kendrick, smh. Logic has one of the most basic flows I've ever heard. All he does is rhyme. No real complex metaphors, advanced wordplay, double entendres, just straight basic lyricism in its rawest form. Which is dope to an extent, especially since his flow sells it so sell, but to compare to a mind of a genius like Kendrick who can release mainstream songs with a message or story, release mixtapes full of a hip hop head's dream of top notch lyricism and storytelling, while trying to give people a new direction, he's untouchable. Dot's a genius. To the people talking about his "Control" verse. Another bit of proof you don't know shit since you go to the most hyped verse he's ever made. It received so much hype because you had people opening their eyes who only listen to the radio. You got to understand to them, it was mind blowing, and to people who study hip hop like a lot of us, who dive into internet interview videos and freestyles aside from listening to real music non stop, it was just another great MC doing his thing. But if anything, you should take in the fact that he was able to do that. That so many mainstream mindless fans who can't think for themselves could even understand and appreciate his verse on that song. That's what makes it even greater. FYI. His verse was the best on control in terms of lyricism. This is coming from someone who knows just how much of a damn alien genius Jay Elect is with his crazy ass rhyme skills. Also someone who appreciates the cleverness in Big Sean's verse (Which in terms of effort and personal dedication, he had the best verse). Don't get me wrong, Jay Elect's verse was again crazy, but understand his go to flow always incorporates biblical references from his religion. It's the norm from him, wasn't his hottest verse ever. As far as Sean, easily one of his best verses and efforts, and was crazy with the wordplay, cleverness, and of course catchiness. However, Kendrick again, brought a little intro packed with lyrics to set the tone, in his odd vocal mixes he uses. Then he totally killed it with wordplay, lyricism, presence, emotion, and just REALNESS. He talked about how bad ass of an MC he was while giving you personal accomplishments as an argument; "Blessing to Paul McCartney, you called me a Black Beatle, I'm either that or a Marley", I mean it's fucking Paul for crying out loud. For him to tell you that? Then he is right about being in the GOAT discussions already at such a young stage of his career. Then he goes onto call out friendly competition, which is what hip hop lacks now these days. A lot of MC's would rather not make songs with people simply so they don't get bested. Back in the Golden Age it was all about competition. It was like a sport. That's how it should be. FRIENDLY mutual respective competition. For Kendrick to be the one to dish that out there, and "raise the bar", while proclaiming he's the King of NY (Both as a claim of his greatness and to cleverly provoke competition), King of the Coast, Makaveli's offspring, one of the greatest alive rn, and still killing it lyrically, made it easily the best/most conversional and hottest verse out that year. If you only look at lyricism for verses, you're gladly mistaken, especially in terms of greatest verses. You have to look at impact, presentation, authenticity, meaning, relevance, and than lyricism. The tones were set perfect in all those areas to make a legendary verse. You people are so ignorant. Half of you probably never heard Jay Elect's "Exhibit C" verses before you even caught his name and looked him up, and it's easily a GOAT verse. So to complain about K Dot being overrated and bashing his "Control" verse. You're ignorant. Name me a rapper who has grabbed the game by the horns like this while having a positive message and being one of the only to take the game to its light, who took over ANOTHER artist own song, and can do it all with the genius lyricism and brain he has, while he's HUMBLE and REAL. Who also assures to appeal to the mainstream to keep the cash flow for his family, and to keep his message and whereabouts known to the public so he can guide this rap game. Someone who's also not into the jewelry, drugs, and the whole rap persona, in his words a "Good Kid". You people really sleep on what Kendrick is to this rap game. Sucks to see it. People wonder why hip hop is in shambles. He's another fucking Pac.

    • @roofio_doofio
      @roofio_doofio 9 лет назад +5

      i feel you but at the same time..... straight basic lyricism is what its all about man. you turn on the damn radio these days and you hardy hear that kind of shit... just drake say you dont know you dont know over and over and over or lil wayne rhyming everything with n*gga. i miss Lyricism and i enjoy kendrick and logic. they are both lyrically 2 of the best in the game right now. and when i say 2 of the best that could be 2 out of 10, 2 out of 20, 2 out of 50...im just sayin... theyre both good.

    • @Christofu3
      @Christofu3 9 лет назад +20

      TL;DR... YoungGuns830 believes Kendrick is a rapper who has grabbed the game by the horns in a very unique manner. He not only carries a positive message, but also does it with genius lyricism while still staying humble and real. He respects rappers like Logic, Jay Elect, and Big Sean for their flow and rhyme schemes, but feels that Kendrick not only incorporates the aforementioned, but also adds deep metaphors and genius lyricism to the mix. YoungGuns830 believes that ignorance or disagreement to his views is the reason why hip hop isnt as popular as it should be. In conclusion, YoungGUns830 likens Kendrick Lamar to Tupac Shakur.

    And to think, there are people out there right now, who claim to know about hip hop, doubting this man lol. He's obviously going to take his time responding to Aubrey, and the way I see it, when he finally does, it'll be well worth it. This isn't fast food music or fast food lyricism. Kendrick makes the music count.

    What has he not done?
    What he hasn't done is fundamentally revolutionize any facet of rap grammar,or at the very least pioneer some new,distinct development in the art form.
    His timing is traditional.His syntax is traditional.His cadences are traditional.His rhyme schemes are traditional.His lyric themes as well.Name anything Kendrick has done & I can give you someone who has done it before.
    Dude is mad talented;even lyrically superior to a lot of his predecessors.

    Its sooooo funny how we as fans or whatever you wanna call em love the artist when he is underground we say ahhhh he is great he will kill any mainstream artist. Then when he makes it and does just that and in the same breath we say oh he is overrated or he sucks now, his last mixtape or album was better than his mainstream album. Come on guys lets be happy that we have him cause when he is gone then we will all be saying "damn I wish he was around to kill these lame mainstream artist".

    • @chasemurphy2870
      @chasemurphy2870 10 лет назад

      Nathan Gray Freestyle rap: Freestyle is a style of rap, with or without instrumental beats, in which rap lyrics are improvised, i.e. performed with no previously composed lyrics, and "off the top of the head
      Do you see how it says performed without previously composed lyrics? And all the lyrics from this were taken from a song he had already written. So it looks like I do know what the definition of a freestyle is. Apparently you don't.
