As a literal preferred reader & mostly utilizing four (‘77, ‘95, 2020 & LSB) for decades (77 & 95 of course) this video was well put together & thorough as far as essentials in at least what I look for. I received Lockman’s email(s) on these new texts & Bibles as they were & will be going out but was unsure which ones contained my preferences as there were so many to look through: mostly, not caring for xrefs convoluting the text but containing all translation notes in a premium crafted Bible. Thank you Tim! Soli Deo Gloria! Maverick
I think the footnotes is the way to go too. Thank you for the review of one of my favorite Bible translations. To those not sure which translation to get, read Tim’s book. You will know what is best for you after reading it! 😊
Hey Tim, I just wanted to say the video looks amazing! Like those “stat breakdowns” you showed so we can know the size and the specs. Amazing. Have a LPUT by Allan. Love, love, love that Bible! The lockman’s LPUT. Is an amazing Bible for the price.
They always do this to me. I just got the single column 95 prime edition as it went on sale for Christmas and they go and release the 95 LPUT my all time favorite Bible. I’ve used my genuine leather one to death and had to retire it. Something about that Bible was so special even with all the flaws. The format was just amazing. Do really like the single column and will use it a lot but I’m going to have to get one of these eventually.
I've never read the NASB before, but I've been curious about it -- the gorgeous olive color, full notes, and incredibly high quality of the new 2020 version makes this a ridiculously easy purchase (for less than $30!!). Also, since so many people have been discussing black letter and red letter Bibles in the comments of this particular video: my thanks to the publisher for printing this in black ink all the way through. A red letter Bible would give me pause before purchasing.
Cool 😊 1. I hope Lockman does a single column paragraph format (or at least a double column paragraph format) edition of their full notes NASB. Personally I'm not a huge fan of verse by verse, though I can see how it's useful for some people (e.g. preaching Bibles). 2. I hope this spurs more Bible translations to publish full notes editions of their Bibles (e.g. Crossway for the ESV).
Oh no! Another Bible I want. I love the NASB 2020. Just got a 9.99 well-used, but not yucky, leather Thompson Chain Reference in Niv from Half Price Books, so I've got plenty of cross-references. I'd like that personal size with the footnotes.
Thank you for review. I just wish it came in paragraph format like the 2020. I can't help but wonder if the paragraph is to help new users to adjust by having common paragraph format while historically the 1995 verse by verse was used for reading and study. At least from my background.
I am actually looking for a new NASB 2020! What a coincidence! Olive is actually my favorite color, and I would love to buy this one…but my preference is red letter text. Maybe I can get used to black letter though…any comparable suggestions for red letter?
I prefer notes over references, too, if it's either/or. Personally, though, I also prefer the 95 over the 2020. If they put out a full notes 95, I'll pull the trigger on a hardcover, for sure. I do have a minor gripe about Bibles in every translation that is a pet peeve with me: PLEASE separate the notes and refs! The only publisher that does this regularly, I believe, is Holman with their CSB's; either L/R or up/down in the footer, a nice line separates the notes from the refs. Aaahh! A typical example of the problem is the otherwise wonderful NKJV Maclaren blue letter. The footer clutter Bothers my son, Jim, so much he only uses his Mac as his reader, anymore. His preacher is the premium NKJV EOV VBV in brown goatskin, notes isolated in the footer. It was his choice for our Shannon Clan Biblequest 2024 and he loves it! It was the most fun I've ever had going broke spending money, haha, and I highly recommend it. Pardon my verbosity and God bless you.
Cambridge Topaz seperate references and notes, notes on three bottom and references in the side margin. Dirty beige semi-opaque paper and bolder font relative to schuyler offerings. IMO opinion topaz are the goat for long reads (new PSQ and Q might be on par now, I haven't used them yet to have a solid opinion).
I know the features list says its line matched, but I just wanted to confirm because I have seen some comments saying that it isn’t line matched. I’m not sure if this is an assumption since the old format wasn’t line matched or if someone has gotten a new 95 LPUT and seen that it isn’t line matched. Just wanting some clarification - Thanks!
Just got a bargain today. An 1889 family bible ( I am in Britain) it's large and in excellent condition. Printed by Eyre and Spottiswoode, i guess you call it a lectern bible. Only five pounds, which is about seven US dollars I think. It was definitely coming home with me at that price.
Question: is the 95 in the picture the same text block as the Allan NASB Reader? It looks similar but you mentioned it’s line matched and I’m pretty sure the Allan version isn’t?
Do they have a 95 NASB with full translation notes but no cross references? Having both in there adds to much to the page visually for me but I prefer the 1995 translation
@@MM-jf1me It doesn't have the cross references. I can recommend the Lockman NASB 2020 Wide Margin Reference that has all the cross references, and a very nice typesetting.
I would like an Oxford annotated bible sixth edition with large font and blank sides for notes. Is this possible? I don't know how to get in contact with the publishers. I don't have connections. I have an eye disorder and mental one that makes it hard to read and see all the small font. It almost gives me a panic attack. I would rather have a text book size Oxford Annotated if it meant large font and spaces to make notes on the edges. Who do I talk to to make that happen? I am sure I am not the only one who would like that. Especially when it will be one of the most accurate bibles in the world to date when it comes out.
Do you know if the new 95 LPUT non-premium versions have the same paper as the premium? I know the 2020 LPUT premium was nice but the non-premiums had the paper with the bluish tint. Thanks for the great video.
For the new 95 LPUT the black and the brown Leather text, the brown genuine leather, and the black and brown goatskin Prime Editions - all have the 32gsm paper. The black genuine leather does not.
Regarding the NASB ecosystem of translations... 😊 1. NASB20 to me seems like a very readable version of the NASB. No longer wooden or stilted. Rather the NASB20 is surprisingly clear and natural sounding to my ears. 2. NASB95 remains rock solid. I think it's slightly better than the NASB20 for "literal" accuracy by which I mean formal equivalence. 3. Although I think the LSB might be (as some have said) the NASB95 "perfected". Well, "perfected" is likely an exaggeration, but at least the NASB95 "improved". If nothing else, I like the name change from NASB to LSB because NASB makes it sound like it's a Bible translation primarily for Americans (imagine if there was a translation called the New Australian Standard Bible or the British Commonwealth Bible), whereas the name LSB has a wider appeal across the English speaking world, I think.
For what it's worth, R. Grant Jones has an excellent deep dive into the NASB 2020 and LSB translations. LSB comes out the most literal (moreso than even the 77), but the NASB20 is more literal than the 95 NASB. I think Frisch comes to a similar conclusion that NASB20 is more literal than 95.
@NMicke-vz9qo Thanks, brother! 😊 Very helpful, I'll check out the Jones video as soon as I can! Really good to know he assesses the NASB 2020 to be even more literal than the NASB95. If so, that would be very good, because then we'd finally have a very literal as well as very readable NASB.
I used 95 last year as my primary, this year is 2020 and it's 3x more enjoyable (because 95 was a chore, I didn't like it even though the studies went well, boring and oddly worded, reading it was like walking on a canted stairwell).
I love your Bible videos. If I can please ask for help in finding the Bible that's right for me. I'm looking for a 2020 NASB or Legacy standard study bible, thumb indexed, red letters, in leather. I have been looking for about 4-5 weeks, called about 5 publishers and no luck. If anyone has an information on this I would be very grateful for any direction. God Bless you brothers and sisters in Christ. Ramiro Flores
@murrydixon5221 Thank you very much. From what I've looked into there are no 2020 NASB study Bibles. I appreciate your recommendation. I will definitely do it. Blessings 🙏

Wow I love your videos. So informative and I look forward to them daily. I am loving that 2020 LPUT.
Thanks so much!
95 will always be my favorite translation of the Nasb

NASB95 fan here. Thanks, as always, for sharing your thoughts on some new editions.
Wow!! What a great resource for both cross reference and footnotes! Great video
The olive green looks great to read. The ultra thin 95 has my attention though 😊
95 all the way, Bro! Still using my coffee stained Zodhiates Hebrew/Greek Key Study Bible 30 years on.

That green 2020 is a beauty for sure, but that classic ‘95 look is hard to pass up. I might need both. 😅

Great Review🎉 I have the 95 NASB Study Bible with cross references and footnotes. Plus Tony Evans NASB 2020 and MacArthur's 95 signature Edition NASB.

The Lockman Side Column Reference and Wide Margin Reference are single column typesettings with all of the footnotes 😊
Hey, NASB and LSB publishers, please make an interleaved Bible. I currently have the ESV but I prefer the NASB or LSB. Please please please

The NASB 95 LPut rocks! Love that bible! ❤ - the new “modernized” layout for the 2020 is not as good.

Yep. Here's my review: ruclips.net/video/D9RIHJSLqwY/видео.html
Tim, quick question, does the NASB 95 by Allan have ALL the textual notes and cross references? Thanks for the video brother!
Yes it does!
Yes
Does the translation notes of the new 2020 full notes give the Old Testament reference info when the OT is quoted in the NT?
I think the cross references would tell you which OT quote it is.
@@grantkruger3689
But does this particular Bible have those cross references at all since its focus is on the translation notes?
@@MM-jf1me It doesn't have the cross references. I can recommend the Lockman NASB 2020 Wide Margin Reference that has all the cross references, and a very nice typesetting.
