Definitely feel it will be a classic, somewhat sought after in a few more years. Prices are steadily climbing, especially on low mileage, stock or mostly stock examples. There were a lot of nay sayers about this car, but in my opinion, they were wrong. I purposely bought mine brand new as a garage queen, weekend fun, car show cruiser. I had a feeling about the car then, and I still do now.
It's an absolute certainty they will be collector's cars. I just added my most comprehensive video yet of my top 25 sports cars of all time...take a look: ruclips.net/video/bp7ISIkSMuk/видео.html
I'm a Trans Am guy, but the mid 2000's GTO's have grown on me so much. I hear nothing but good things from owners. My dream car is a 30th anniversary Trans Am, but if it never happens and I don't run across a red 98-02 WS.6, then I'd go for a red 2006 GTO. Pontiac was going to bring over the Holden El Camino and call its something else. You can find pictures of it online.
I’m glad that it isn’t a collectible (at the time of writing this comment) So that we broke car guys can get our hands on these GTOs and we can drive them instead of letting them sit in a garage for it’s whole life
GTO's will definitely be a collector car in a few more years. It's already getting hard enough to find a nice clean low mileage example. The prices on a clean 6.0 6 speed manual are already starting to go back up. Especially since manufacturers are going away from manual trans nowadays these cars will definitely be sought after being manual with a decent amount of power. I absolutely love mine and plan on keeping it for a long time to come.
I like your assessment of the GTO! BTW, the Chevy SS is rather interesting as well.... certainly a very well equipped modern Sleeper... I prefer the manual transmission though.. It was a marketing flop on GM’s part. Ultimately, here in the DC area, dealers were discounting the SS to 40K brand new.. !
I'm embarrassed to say that I've never driven an SS but I agree with you that if I could choose between A/T and manual, I'd pick the manual 100% of the time.
I love the 2004-2006 GTO's. I personally think the 2004 model will be the more collectible, if any ever become collectible?? I say that because it was the anniversary year of the GTO, it was only made with the LS1 (a amazing engine) for that 1 year and it is still super fast. When it comes to collectibles the HP isn't always the biggest factor. There are just way less 2004 models out there, it was the anniversary model and the LS1 was a legendary motor for GM.
This is a year ago lol but there were actually about the same number of 04 gtos produced as 05 and 06 combined. 04 had around 18,000 made 05 and 06 had a little less than 10k each year so combined it's around 18k too
@@mikestanly749 only has 150k on it. I haven't daily driven it since 2014 when I got my SRT Challenger. It's an Automatic. Since it was my daily I wanted an automatic back then, drove in mad traffic every day to work. Now that it's my play car I wish it were a manual of course. Still very fun to drive tho. It's just a fantastic car, I've honestly never owned a car I liked driving better.
@@bobbycone2 funny mine is an 05 manual and I wish it were an auto as it was listed. The owner had the rims dipped in California which lured me. Mine had 24k in 2012 when purchased, now 79k. Ironic I had a srt8 challenger and now a hellcat. The GTO is now a daily.
I love the gto because it reminds me of my old 02 grandprix which was a 2 door, but these are way more powerful and a little more modern than the 98-03 grandprix
I don’t think it’s collectible in the same sense of Porsche/Ferarri collector snobs. Instead, it’s very akin to old American coupe pony muscle, and 80/90’s Japanese performance innovative machines. When I see this Pontiac and it’s 4 door successors, I see a fun performance car with 400hp that can be a good family car too. It doesn’t get the fuel economy or comfort of a bmw M3, Lexus IS F, Acura TL Type S but it’s much much faster than any Ford Taurus SHO or Honda Accord V6. All in all, this is a grown up Mustang SN95.
If I had to put my $15000 on one car to drive regularly and sell for a big profit when I'm done, I'd go for the Honda S2000...but the GTO is a more practical choice.
I agree the built quality is top notch but why is the paint quality not top notch after so many years of Holden building these? I've heard of so many having paint issues that it is kind of ridiculous for a car maker to be making a vehicle for many years and still have poor paint quality.
You could say that the color choices were an option, along with certain colors offering a color match interior. The SAP package and 18" wheels were also options besides the transmission choices. You can see at the end of the video that the passenger seat seems are split, high quality built at it's best.
It's a bummer that GM didn't get more aggressive with the GTO and spend the money that car deserved...because the GTO is really nice despite some of the quality gremlins
Have a torrid red black interior m6 with 36,000 miles in pristine condition. Also has the 18" wheels and front sap facia. Wouldn't trade it for the world!! Was offered 30 grand for it at a show, said it wasn't enough!!!
G'day from the land 'DOWN UNDER', Joe - what do you prefer driving? The INFINITY G35 or the GTO (Holden Monaro as known in Oz) They are a dime a dozen in Australia, always appreciate your true assessments & reviews on all vehicles, have a good day mate.
Leo, unfortunately I am 100% biased towards the Infiniti. The G35 is simply the best sports car for the money in the world, period...and also a certain future collectible. However, the rarity of the GTO might make it more valuable (even much more valuable) in the future. Maybe it will be worth restoring...in fact, I'm sure it will be. I just added my most comprehensive video yet of my top 25 sports cars of all time...take a look: ruclips.net/video/bp7ISIkSMuk/видео.html
Yes Collector car. Think of the numbers that were and still are torn up for speed. Leaves the rare few really worth having. Really love my Yellow Devil 6 speed manual trans on my 6.0 V8 2005 GTO
20 years from now when they print up list of best performance cars of the generation, people are going to realize they missed a golden opportunity to own a top performance car that was semi-limited production with nice quality and a cool story pretty affordably
SAP kit was a dealer installed option. Too bad a sunroof wasn’t offered front the factory, but like the SAP kit, there was a dealer installed sunroof option as well.
