Love the DSG on my GLI Mk.7, after 10 years driving manual it's a nice change, such a great car, no problems so far.

PSA for anyone who's confused about the gear ratios.
Looking up the specs, it shows the gear ratios are 3.77, 2.09, 1.47, 1.09, 1.10, and 0.91. You might wonder why in the world is 5th gear shorter than 4th? Well I have good news and bad news, and the good news is that 5th is indeed taller than 4th, but (and this is the bad news) there are two final drive ratios, and 5th and 6th gear go through the alternate final drive, which is taller by 23.5%.
Final 1 is 3.235, and Final 2 is 2.619. To get the EFFECTIVE gear ratio for 5th and 6th gear, you set up a proportion (5th/6th gear ratio * new final / old final). This makes 5th and 6th gear EFFECTIVELY 0.89, and 0.737 respectively.
I hope this clears up somebody's confusion.
(PS, for the automatic, Final 1 is 4.167, and Final 2 is 3.125, and 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 7th go through the alternate final drive.)
Todays ride was really jerky i could feel it through my screen
I have on of these, in Pure Gray with a stage 1 tune and sticky summer tires. It's a terrific daily driver. Also changed the stock shifter for a euro part with shorter throws. It's cheaper than the GTI, but since a mk7 was my last car, I wanted a change and this was perfect.
Was surprised to see that this model seems not to provide rear seat passengers with air conditioning air vents. Even my Australian delivered 2011 Jetta TSI (manual and no rev hang and very much the base model) incorporated them for the comfort of rear seat passengers.
Not particularly fond of the front, but everything else looks good

I get the impression from this video - accurate or not - that this car isn't any quicker than a 1.4 with stick, which makes the R-Line look all the more appealing.

That rev hang is terrible, even for normal driving shifts. I couldn't drive that thing.
You would get used it ... albeit after many weeks of daily driving. Or you could tune it out.

I believe that VW ist very experienced in engineering manual transmissions.
What you describe as rev hang just seems to be the driver trying to double clutch while shifting in an lower gear.
Tom Luca no it’s when up shifting. When he pushes in the clutch to upshift the revs take forever to drop down. That’s something manufacturers add in because it “reduces harmful emissions”. With an ECU flash tune this can be minimized or completely deleted but that can cost $700.
Tom Luca is or isn’t? Because they definitely are. The rev hang is for emissions and there’s no need to double clutch and new transmission with synchros.

Wow! A pretty torquey machine! Of all the cars being built right now, Volkswagen has the best looking cars. I'd love to test drive one! Not sure how reliable these VW's are over time, but if I was to abide by what Scotty Kilmer would say, he'd say run away from this car. "It's a money pit!"

The Jetta and Golf chassis aren’t equivalents anymore. The GTI is a far better car now than the GLI.
Too bad that the R-Line (now available with the 6-spd manual) looks a million times better than this (amazing what merely a different grille treatment and set of wheels can do).
A German car with a bunch of electronics in it. What could possibly go wrong?
Owned only German cars and never had a problem...people neglect their possessions and then complain when something goes wrong
@@zbychu6392 I'm not sure how a person neglects electronics in a car. I also didn't realize VWs require additional maintenance over other cars to keep things working properly.

I'm a fan of it, over several years where the Jetta looked like a cheap pos the facelift was well needed.

It's indeed hideous, but somehow the R-Line's grille treatment (and beautiful wheels) make it look pretty good. (The GLI, however, looks like a pig with clown makeup - those trademark red bits just DON'T work on the MK7).

US is rapidly declining to Third World conditions (already is Second World), which is what you get when a populace is brainwashed into accepting a "two-party system," all parties of which are devoted to supporting and enriching a corporate oligarchy, NOT improving infrastructure or the lot of "ordinary" people. (But, given that those ordinary people all want to drive automatics and won't get the HELL out of the left lane, I say they deserve it.)
