I've been hoping you'd get to this one for a long time, DH. The whole Mayan show is one of my favorites to watch, and Assassin is my favorite track from the show. It's also one of those songs where the keyboard player isn't on stage, so it's a pure power-trio throwback. Don't get me wrong, I like Muse's keyboard-laced work, but seeing them this way really shows off their individual musicianship.
1. I love this song. Seen Muse 46 times. Heard this song only twice. 2. This Mayan gig was one of the times I heard it live! Also the only time I have ever been on the barrier. I was in heaven. 3. I love that this made you so giddy you couldn't hide it.
This song has evolved a lot over the years. The breakdown used to be a middle 8 with lyrics before the last verse. It then ended the song but now they added the final riff. Also, you have not fully experienced there full live production yet which is one of the best in the business imo. Wait for some stadium songs of they ever crop up. Great review as always, David.
Did you know that the guitar breakdown near the end, just before it roars back into the outro... Is Break It To Me, also by Muse. Specifically Matts lyrical and vocal flow during the verse.
Right, this is the original extended version: ruclips.net/video/_EtOo4QQWnY/видео.html In whatever form this is one of Muse's best songs, I'd rank it no. 2 or 3 in my top3
If you do want to listen to more from them, consider checking out 'Bliss' and 'Stockholm Syndrome' from the same 2015 Mayan Theatre show. They're fun rock songs. Or 3 songs from their 2007 Wembley Stadium performance: 'Hysteria' for the BASS, 'Butterflies and Hurricanes' for the piano and 'Knights of Cydonia' for quite a way to start the show.
I know this is not the point… but as far as live performance goes… you gotta give muse’s lighting crew credit. They do such a good job of helping the visual match the audio.
I have seen Muse live twice. I was not at the Mayan gig. I wish I was because they nailed every note vocally and instrumentally. I watched the DVD and at the end I knew that was Muse's best live set, sound wise.
About the venue, I'm pretty sure the Mayan is one of the three oldest theaters in Los Angeles alongside the Chinese Theater (the oldest) and the Indian. Also this concert was sponsored by Guitar Center Live and DirectTV. Also the band took requests from the audience and pretty sure this song won one of the polls
I knew you will love this song. I've requested this song from the beginning. Btw the part when they slowed down trying to build up to something he was suppose to won't there just so you know. I'm so glad you will love it he won't. Not surprised at all. It's one of my fav. Heavy songs by Muse.
Yeah we allll wanted to see you react to this! Also, if you want to hear this version of Assassin you have to look up the "Grand Omega Bosses" edit of Assassin, studio version doesn't have the breakdown
Dave, this is one of my favorite reactions, not because you like the song, we know, we have seen you when you don't like something. We can tell this was genuine and you know what? This is not even my favorite Muse song but you reiterate what is said before there is at least one Muse song for you, once again great work on the analysis and you shed some light on those who don't know anything about composition and music, like me
How do you know a band is good/great - you can't pick one favorite song. Each has it's moments and there can NO WAY be just one that's the best and personally favorite, Muse and Nightwish definately fall into this category (and some others as well)
This is such a demanding song to play on Guitar not because of the actual notes he plays, but because of the constant flow of your picking hand. Keeping up with 125 BMP for 4mins with no break (if it’s the original) is hard and by the end makes you a bit sore.
Thank god the person who suggests Muse songs from you actually gave you a song you'd like this time. I'm not sure why they suggest some of the stuff they do, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on Muse songs more in the vein of Assassin.
A lot of people request deep cuts and oddities for me to watch because I'll actually do it. Most reaction channels only care about analytics, views, and clicks...so they will only do reactions to songs that will get them as many clicks and views as possible. Luckily, I don't care about that stuff, all I care about is making as many people happy as possible while keeping my integrity untainted.
THIS is one of the songs that I mentioned should have been catered to your liking. Not the rest of the Muse choices besides Stockholm Syndrome. The break down part isn't in the studio version of Assassin.
I have listened to Muse a lot but I sometimes have a hard time with the older studio albums. The singer Matthew Bellamy takes loud gasps of air when he's singing. It's less prominent in the newer albums but I don't know why he's doing that on the early stuff. The songs are great but the gasping is a bit much.
I just went to see the rate you gave to "Stockholm Syndrome" by Muse. You gave it 9.1. For me, it's a much better song than this one. But well, this a nice song too. Greetings!
@@THEDavidHeretic same!!!, but I must say, AC2 was so awesome, since we start out as ezio as a teenager, and then the amaizng story just takes place! Revelations just made me upset 🤣 Seeing ezio old 😪
15:40 Funnily enough, the mid/ending-section breakdown is actually Rachmaninov (Prelude in G minor)

46 times, I thought me seeing them 15 times was a lot, nice job.
46 times? You lucky bastard =)
only 4...but, in the last tour, 2019, I heard the main riff of this song in the metal meddley, when murph took the stage
Damn really? I’ve seen them 10 times and heard it twice
Believe it or not Dream Theater member admitted that Muse was a huge influence to them.
yup specially octavarium

The final riff and evolved environment, it’s a Deftones My Own Summer inspiration. Look the Muse Cover of My Own Summer.
Another great reaction ty David love this song, and Muse is 1 of my all time favourite bands
The Mayan is a club in LA
Nice reaction as always! maybe try Unnatural Selection Live at The Den. Also, very excited to hear you react to Space Dementia Live Pinkpop 2004 😅
Yeah we allll wanted to see you react to this!

I'm over the moon that you loved it. And it's THEE version of this song. The album version doesn't have the kinda half time breakdown in it.
Thank you for meantion, thank you for reaction. Thank you for everything!
FEELIN' YOU Davorin!!! Thank you for watching, and thank you for supporting.
@@THEDavidHeretic im loving your reactions. Very fun to watch you analysis and everything. Ill keep watching 🙏

Enjoying some nostalgia listening to Muse on this channel - listened a lot 15-20 years ago.
Both my dad and I love Muse 😂

Just wait til he hears city of delusion
I was waiting for your reaction to the breakdown. This song and this grand omega version is bagasse.
Welcome to another rabbit hole Dave 👍🎸🎸
the most incredible thing about this song is that muse won't play it for eight years 🤪⏳
For something different from them, I'd love to see your reaction to Blackout or Unintended
This song rocks
they can do it, they can
Muse-Take a bow live from Wembley next

If he had reviewed the live version of Stockholm Syndrome it could be a 9.3
Stockholm Syndrome has others attributes that this one hasn’t. Assassin, a big great song, but Stockholm it’s a master piece.
If you get the chance would 100% recommend this one! Defo shows the talent of the whole band

The 2006 version at the Shepard Bush is better and more powerful.

React to kingslayer - BMTH Ft. Babymetal
It's in the que, way up at the top too.
Yeah, a killer from Muse
Their sound was way better at LA 2008, here the drums are too muffled and everything is so bassy
