One error, revolvers don't eject spent cartridges after firing. You have to open the cylinder and dump the brass out then reload.
I was coming here to say the exact same thing. Lol
@@davidmoore3769 Yep, the only real error. I used to repair the Radios/navigation/gps/radars on sea going vessels from fishing boats to vehicle transporters, so most everything else was correct.
Wasn’t the peacemaker a .45 long colt?
Also wasnt single action army's cap n ball? .357 mag would explode the cylinder? Lol

I’m only six minutes in and am wondering why four members of a small crabbing boat would go aboard a much bigger ship of unknown origin INSTEAD of just calling the Coast Guard or someone else who’s more equipped for a task that big? I’ll add an edit after I listen to the rest! 😁♥️
Edit- Wow, that was one really awesome and creepy tale! I like to listen to stories like this more than once. I still agree with what I said in my original comment, why would a small fishing/crabbing boat with only six people attempt to go aboard such a large ship where it’s possible that nobody is still alive? There could have been an unknown illness outbreak that killed everyone aboard to there being pirates (yes, modern day) who were just waiting on a working vessel to come along so they could escape… among MANY other reasons! The author did an outstanding job writing this story and of course Brett narrated it like a boss! Keep up the AMAZING work CGS! I hope you and your loved ones are staying happy and healthy!

I LOVE stories that involve the Ocean…Maritime Adventures, Seafaring Explorations, Arctic Expeditions, etc…Y’know, all thing’s Naughty….I mean Nautical! 😅
Fiction or nonfiction, I love it. But my favorite Ocean stories are the creepy ones. (That’s why I love reading H.P. Lovecraft!!)

The lack of firearms knowledge among horror writers is astonishing and a pet peeve of mine. It always pulls me right out of the immersion... Revolvers don't eject spent brass, uh duhhhhh. Jeezus... Every time man.
Maybe he dumped the empty shells when checking how many bullets were left?

Colt single action does not have a swing open cylinder. You flip open a loading gate and reload/remove rounds one at a time.

another note... a single action Colt did not have a swing out cylinder and did not eject the spent cartridge. with a Colt peacemaker you had to load one bullet at a time end remove the spent shells the same way... manually.

Yeah whoever wrote this doesn’t have a clue about how a Colt Peacemaker Single Action works. You CANNOT open the cylinder or flip it out, you can only open the loading gate and poke out empties or insert fresh rounds. The fired cartridges will stay in the cylinder until one does the previous steps. The only way to remove the cylinder is to pull out the arbor pin and then remove the cylinder by pushing it out to the right. It’s a very slow process. I don’t understand why the writers don’t do their homework when writing. Besides a single action revolver is honestly not something that a sea captain today would choose to carry or have aboard a vessel. It’s slow to shoot, even slower to reload and fairly long and cumbersome. A double action Smith & Wesson in perhaps 38 Special would be far more common and definitely better suited to emergency situations such as a possible mutiny or pirates (of course most pirates these days would carry something like an AK47 so the captain would be outgunned anyway)

Flipped open the cylinder on a single action army?? Gonna pretend he said raised the loading gate and spun the cylinder to check each round specifically while his friend held the light, it taking two hands to operate.
yeah I was thinking the same thing lol. Same as how they implied the spent casings were ejected from the revolver with each shot, and thus found on the floor. Stuff kinda breaks immersion in the story.

You were right the Colt S/A .45 cal. revolver was very important but it is the Winchester rifle model of 1873 that has the title of the gun that won the west.

I'm guessing he had a colt 1889 since the cylinder swinging out, and still looking like the peacemaker, and it took .38 long colt..not .357? The shells in the floor may have been the sailor emptying the cylinder after a fight to see how many shots were left, dumping the empties and reinserting the 2 loaded cartridges back in?
Interesting how the captain managed to eject the shells and put them in different places after shooting himself

That shows that writers need to research at least with common things that a revolver doesn't spend cases when fired! But the story was written well!
