While beginning a demo a on piece property in Wendell, NC today, I just so happened to stumble across one of these in an old shed that we were about to tear down. It was kept in a wooden box. Needless to say, I dumped the old fuel out, put new in it and works beautifully. Also found some newspapers stuffed in it dated August 13th, 1979.
You could have just looked at the bottom of the stove, 425f’s had the date printed on the frame up until the end of the 90’s until the last few runs off the assembly line when they switched to a sticker and may have removed the date (I dunno, I lose interest around 1980) Models before the 425f, as far as I know, had their date printed on the fuel tank so those can be a little confusing due to the interchangeability of the tanks.

I have 4 Coleman 220 lanterns, a 200A and a 530 pocket stove and while i have 1 220 working decent the 425F shows up for action all the time no messing around. I respect it

@BrotherWitch once the first is going there's a valve on the left side of the stove. You open it and simply light the left burner. Then balance the overall fuel flow to both burners using the main know and between them using the valve on the left side.
@@roxyhuang4623 We found that the tank's air pump needed some "oil" he called it. He said that the grill is working now. My problem earlier was that the pump was not holding pressure inside the tank. All good now! Yay!
I have a dual fuel 414 powerhouse, love it. It will run on white gas, unleaded,diesel, kerosene, alcohol, and propane with the adapter, I added the hose adapter to run on 20 lb tank, not 1 lb. What other stoves can do that. Fully serviceable, lasts forever
Weird design? These been made like this since 1920, the fuel pipe is called a generator, it goes over the burner to heat the pipe with liquid gas to change it from liquid to a vapor, for a clean burn. These stoves can run on white gas,unleaded gas,diesel, kerosene, alcohol, and propane. I wouldn't buy anything else. They are the best thing since sliced bread! That said I've seen people burn all kinds of stuff down with these, simply because they don't know how to use one. Idiot proof, no, but even an idiot can run this on propane
There is a control key on the left side to operate the left burner. The right burner has to be on and fully warmed up "blue flame" before lighting the left burner.
There's a valve on the left side. Once the right burner is lit you open it and the left side will light right away. Then you control flow to both with the know and how much goes to the left burner with the left valve.

How do you release tank pressure? Mine has a fillup cap and A pressurizer pump just like yours - I don't see any pressure release valve. I guess they assume you will burn it until it loses pressure and fuel.
@@jeffkelly636 Loosen up the fill cap slowly. When it stops hissing there is no more pressure. I then remove the cap entirely, empty the unused fuel into a separate fuel storage container, then put the cap back on the tank. The next time I use the camp stove I'll use the fuel from the storage container then top it off with fresh camp fuel.
Good morning, I just pulled my old 425 out of the shed and tried to fire it up. The problem is that when I pressure up the tank, there is a tiny leak out of the front of the generator. I pulled the valve assembly apart and cleaned it very well without scratching the brass. It slowed the leak substantially however there is still a drop or two coming out of the front of the generator approximately every 10 seconds. Any thoughts or ideas? Any and all help is much appreciated, thank you.

I love my Coleman 425. It can boil a pot in half the time of the expensive gas range in my kitchen. But dude, clean your stove! It will last way longer. Hot water and dish soap. A rag and a tooth brush. Show it some love and respect.
I got one for $30 at a second hand shop. I gave it a thorough cleaning with warm soapy water, sos pads, sanded down surface rust, then resprayed it with Tremclad Gloss Green. Came out almost like new and fires right up! 🔥
Was camping this weekend and it stopped working. Seems that the generator was working but that big silver “fuel catcher” (?) was not collecting it. We wondered if water got in it from a storm but I don’t think so. Any ideas?
Sometimes insects can crawl into the generator and/or components. Sometimes make nests etc. Or something can block it. What I would do is take the generator off and take the components apart and just burn through it. I'd use a torch I have here. Perhaps some pipe cleaners? If it is gunked up inside use some 100% alcohol. It's also possible the catcher ? is working but the burner was really wet like you said. I've see only a part of the burner work from that. Again I camp with a mini hand torch so I'd use that and heat the burner up immensely to dry out any water. Or take a small splash of fuel and lite it up to dry them out then try running it. The components are beyond simple.

Hi there. You should store the naphtha fuel (wouldn't recommend actual gasoline.coleman branded fuel is simply called camp fuel) in the can or container you got it in. If you leave it in it can build up an enamel that will clog things but this takes a very long time. Again if you use gasoline expect it to become clogged very soon.

It's just hooked to the same fuel line. There's a valve on the left side you can open to lite it. Then they share the same fuel so you basically turn up the main valve to supply more fuel to both burners.

@@mattandkatchristie2552 - No, white gas(Naptha) only. However, there are folks who have used unleaded gasoline with success but it will clog the stove sooner as it is a dirty/unrefined fuel. So in a pinch you could use unleaded gasoline.
Sangeeta Motwani- Are you serious?? You realize that propane is not available in a liquid state? Propane stoves use compressed gas canisters(filled with Propane) that when released the propane vaporizes into a gaseous state where it is then burned. This stove uses a liquid fuel that is then pressurized manually(the pump). When the fuel is permitted to flow it is atomized/vaporized by the heat from the flame that is keeping the fuel tube hot(the long tube from fuel tank that goes across the burner) and then burnt as a gas.
Doesn't ANYONE read the instruction that are ON THE STOVE windscreen right in front of them? Just about every "how to light a Coleman stove" video screws it up by NOT FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS. Pump it up. Lighting lever up. Hold your match or lighter to the burner and OPEN THE VALVE AT LEAST 2 FULL TURNS. Try this. IT WORKS. Really. Every time. Everyone want to baby the valve or just crack it open a little bit. THIS FLOODS THE GENERATOR and makes big yellow flames. I know it seems counter intuitive, that's why they put the instructions RIGHT THERE. It won't flare up. It won't. Really.
In 1966 the total directions were not on the lid. So if you bought one in a garage sale you wouldn't know that you have to turn the pump knòb 2 turns clockwise, and hold your thumb over the little hole to pressurize it. I found one and finally figured all this out. Also found out there is a square stem inside that turns, mine was stuck.

That decal says: To Light Main Burner TURN LIGHTING LEVER UP OPEN MAIN VALVE COMPLETELY AND LIGHT MAIN BURNER AFTER ONE MINUTE TURN LEVER DOWN OPEN VALVE AND LIGHT AUXILIARY BURNER AS NEEDED blah, blah, blah. Yada, yada, yada. PLEASE READ COMPLETE INSTRUCTION SHEET CAREFULLY If you don't care about staying period correct, you can get more complete instruction decals for it. The models changed but the procedures for the newer ones work with all of them. Get a newer replacement decal or just memorize the steps and don't loan it out. Haha! After a few times, it should be second nature. Any reference to number of pumps is a minimum and start pumping again as soon as it lights. Sometimes they ARE missing, painted over, or burned beyond recognition. You can order replacement decals and water slides. If you ever have questions or need help, don't hesitate to respond to any of my posts. I'll be happy to help, if I can.

i have one of these and the fuel was from 1985, it ran with no issues.

You can but don't have to. I don't think it's a great idea to store it long term pressurized though.

You can buy replacements for very cheap. We got our's at Canadian Tire tho that's here in canuckistan. They're everywhere.

Same model. Just minor revisions. The 425 f models were released from 1979 to 1983. These things are tanks!

Repaired mine re spray painted and removed rust so had to remove the sticker

Only reason that I don't like this stove is the fact that the fuel line is over the flame, not under it.
the fuel line is over the flame because that is where the liquid fuel is vaporized into gas. that's how it works.
