I just passed a a semi, hauling two of these scrapers (band new ones) this kind of equipment when needed is still the best way to move topsoil or overburden!!!
Still a few outfits using D8K's and D8H's and even D7G's to pull cable and converted hydraulic scrapers around here. Regular rubber-tire scrapers struggle to work in our gumbo. Plus these setups are much better for trimming work. Surprised he kept his blade attached.
bert26a My friend had a D7E or F with a cable control panel and he says he found it better balanced with the blade on. He could also knock down high spots on the fill or trim up the haul road if he desired.
I still think it is a great way to material. The problem is the operators and the lack of knowledge now. Rock trucks and excavators have taken over. One good op on a cat and can can to a whole job by himself. No need for even a trim cat or grader.
about 20 hours on new sprocket segments bottom an top rollers front idlers rebuilt with new seals an welded somemore meat an new rails ill introduce you to him at the fair charlie
Hi, Folks. You can see outfits like this, plus many others, bigger and smaller, all working at the Santa Margarita Ranch, Buena Vista Road, Santa Margarita, CA. on Memorial Day Weekend. May, 2015, all day Friday and Saturday and on Sunday Morning. As well, there will be displays of old military vehicles and armour, warbirds, stationary and steam engines, farm tractors and machinery and the old Disneyland trains running on a 2 ½ mile track. This is a beautiful venue on a working 17,000 acre ranch, just off Route 101, South of Atascadero, CA., and North of San Luis Obispo. It’ll be a great weekend. Come along and see the sights, get some dust and diesel fumes up your nose and maybe even get to operate some of it if you ask nicely. Just my 0.02. You all have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
