One thing I like about Moffats storytelling is the way he uses fairytales to describe scientific concepts, like using the tale of the shepherd’s boy to explain eternity and here magic haddock to describe non-human AI/machine learning. He doesn’t over do it but when he uses it really works.
That's exactly why I always loved the Moffat era and I think back on it with really warm and cosy memories. it feels like a fairytale
The event that leads to these escape ships is the same one as The Beast Below. The other ship that he refers to was seen in an old 70s Tom Baker story called "The Ark in Space", and a lot of the imagery in this one with the pods is definitely a callback to that story.
When you reach the end of your New Who run, if you want to dive into some of the classic stuff, Ark in Space is definitely recommended.
I love when you get these unrelated stories that are connected by the same event.
Not just The Ark in Space but also The Ark from the First Doctor's era
I do love how fresh and new they make the early episodes in Series 10 here, this is a great fun episode. I agree the ending is a little rushed, if given a little more time it could've worked out better but you only have so much time for an episode and I wouldn't wanna lose any of the earlier stuff cos it's all great. I also enjoyed your visible joy at the South Asian representation here from the skeleton crew.
If Moffat wrote this episode the eggplant emoji may have probably been used knowing him haha

I appreciate you keeping us updated. Nice reaction in the meantime!
The production crew must have made a lot of skulls for last season's Heaven Sent. The skulls here is excellent if macabre prop re-use.
Fun fact: those skulls from Heaven Sent were actually modelled on Capaldi’s own skull! They did a scan of his head and everything!
The woman saying “mom is dead, don’t stop smiling” is Rani’s mom from The Sarah Jane Adventures. Which is hilarious because Rani’s actress plays a monster next season, and is currently dating Sacha Dhawan. Only in Doctor Who, I swear.
Adding to that, when the actress who played Rani appeared in another BBC programme as a different character, they used the same actors who played her parents on SJA to play her parents again 😂
@@JArm1996 that’s actually awesome. Might as well use the actor chemistry that already exists.
Adored this two hander of 12/Bill felt very black mirror vibes and was great fun ....exdellent acting and sense of dread and unease too I adore Smile low key masterpiece
Yeah, the building is very real, it's been a filming location for a couple movies, I believe. It is the Arts and Sciences Museum in Valencia, Spain.
Actually, Doctor Who films a lot in Spain, now that I think of it 🤔
IT SPEAKS EMOJI 😮
I also get excited whenever anyone mentions Jim The Fish because Jim Fish is literally my legal name.
The jelly cubes still don't make sense to me.
The doctor says he gets two portions because they think he's two people.
But then why are they on one plate with one chair??
Maybe he doesn't register as two sereratw people but as one entity that needs two peoples worth of food
Are you going to watch the 60th anniversary specials when they drop on Disney+?
I love this episode! It's very reminiscent of a Tom Baker story!
Series 8 consists of one-part stories, with a two-part finale, and a single Christmas Special. The Doctor, alone. Clara, alone.
Series 9 consists of two-part stories, with a three-part finale, and a double Christmas Special. The Doctor and Clara, together.
Starting Series 10...The Pilot, Smile, and Thin Ice all bleed into each other with cliffhangers, picking up straight from the last shot of the prior mentioned. The Doctor, Bill, and Nardole 🤔.
Doctor who anime full 12 years ago
i remember you a while back mentioning that you might watch Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, do you have any plans for that in the future? Thanks!
Interesting episode!
Any chance you are into AoT and also reacted to the final part? :)
Oh god his review will be 5 hours long
Can't wait
This is a nice episode imo. But I think it would have been even better if the scene from 1:13 - 1:42 can been cut (or shown later as a flashback). That way the viewer would be immersed in the mystery along with the Doctor and Bill. As it is, we spend big chunk of time waiting for them to catch up to what we already know.
i don t like to ask when x , your a busy man and i know you are working hard on your big projekts... but i hope you didn t cast aside monster, i am really looking forward to it.
It's supposed to return tonight so hopefully there's no issues
I adore this story right up until the 'they're alive!' twist. It felt like on step too far, jammed into the third act after the slow ramp-up at the beginning
Maybe it is just me, but I hated looking at the design of the smiley-face robots, with the eyes replaced by other emoji.
In hindsight, it is unpleasant (to me) in the same way that the Corinthian ("Sandman") is without his sunglasses.
