You forgot to mention that you have to go in to the device settings and set the display screen to show the cover of the book that you're currently reading. Mine was set to off by default but, once I figured that out it worked. I just have to select the image I want as if I'm "reading" it and then press the lock/off button.
How did you do that part?

I have the 2013 version and it does not have that option 🙁 it just says “Cover View Recommendations”

at some point, I'm going to have to just admit to myself that jailbreaking these things for features that should be standard like choosing my own damn lock screen shouldn't be needed and I'm just going to see if I can hook up a raspberry pi to an E-ink display to make my own reader (with blackjack and hookers)
my 1st gen jailbroken paperwhite has art from kentaro muiras berserk and Akira and it's beautifully rendered, and I give up nothing having a carousel of some of the most detailed and beautiful illustrations put to paper, as petty as it sounds I don't want to have make a book to put these pictures in that I need to remember to tab over to if I want them to display, the software I already loaded gave me dark mode and opendyslexic years ahead of people with newer kindles

So you always have to open it as a book? You can’t lock it as screensaver no matter what your reading ?

You need to change the setting : Settings > Device options > Display cover

There's a better idea which is to change the covers of the ebooks you're reading! so it's always gonna have a cute screensaver you picked for the book
You can add your custom book cover to any book in Calibre. That's all.

So basically, this only works when you open the "book", leave it on & lock the screen? So once you read something else, it doesn't stay as the lock screen?
firstly: thanks for the easy to follow tutorial - helped me a lot! but sadly it’s not working for me - I did everything but instead of the cover it shows up black and the
name and author of my created epub.. does anyone knows how to fix it?
Instead of saving as epub save as mobi

Did you maybe save your image as a JPG? I couldnt get mine to work until I saved the images as PNG
check if your kindle has any pending updates.. this happend to me for a while where books wouldn't show the cover and just the name and author..so i'm assuming it may the same issue.. so if there are no updates showing, confirm by just googling the latest update for your specific device. and if they match, then good.
i faced the issue where there was an update for my device but my kindle wasn't giving me the update option. tried contacting customer support who basically told me that they had stopped making updates to the kindle i had(yes my kindle is olllddd). they were no help and they basically lied to me. so did some basic google searches and found i could just download the update and send it via usb to my kindle. and it was all good.
long story short, check for updates and update either via your kindle or by downloading the update to another device and sending it.
Thanks for sharing. Just some feedback. This video was hard to follow because you left a lot of key details out as you were talking--such as the size of the canvas graphic, why you are using a black background, how to update you kindle settings to show book covers as screensavers, etc. On top of this, it was hard to follow along as you spoke fast and moved images off of the screen really fast--i rewinded and paused a lot. In the end I couldn't get it to work based on your video alone, I went to the comments and read through all the questions people asked you and some tips you didn't share. In the future I think just slowing down and really focusing on showing how to do what you are describing versus showing us you talking the whole time would be key. Also make sure that you are sharing every step as this is used as a tutorial not just simple watching.
I'll set it as my lockscreen, but whenever I go back into the book, It will go back to that cover as the lockscreen. Am I doing something wrong? 🤔 Do you have to constantly redo it?
Every time you close your kindle you have to click on it :(

I was able to add a screensaver, but now when I swipe up to get to my library, the kindle stays stuck on the screensaver and I can't get out of it.

I followed all the instructions and the cover doesn’t cover the whole screen. I have huge white space around my cover

Sadly yes, you will need to open this “book” before you lock your kindle
I wish Kindle would just give us some screensaver options already. This seems like too complicated of a process

just buy a kobo next time! and not some "non customizable" stuff like a kindle
The background keeps going white and I don’t know how to fix that
mine did the same thing, so i toggled with the dark mode and it switched to the black background.

I for some reason couldn't access the option of removing adds even following tutorials (maybe it's because of the country I'm in) so I reached out to them and they just removed them for free
what did you write to them? Would you ne open to coping the text from your email and commenting it here?:) Also, what email did you send it to? Directly to amazon or is there a more specific email for the kindle services?
@@sophiakennedy5428 I used their customer support and it doesn't save your conversations but I just asked them to point me to the page I was looking for, because I was happy to pay and they just asked for my device info and removed it
For some reason mine flipped the colors. So my background is white and the items I placed are black.
I just created another one with the colors reversed and that worked. Lol
its probably cause you have it in dark mode (it reverses the colors)

I think you have to go to settings>device options>display cover and then press on, it will show the cover of the book you're currently reading (so the cover you just designed)
