- Ah, video game malls. If you've ever picked up a controller, you'll know that there's a ton of them out there. Which, given the primary purpose of malls, doesn't really make a ton of sense...

Malls aim to sell goods to consumers, and you can't really do that in a video game. Or, at least, you couldn't until recently. So, why ARE there so many malls in video games? The answer, as you'll see from the video, lies in mall aesthetics and how they can be used to create a sense of familiarity. But there's more to it than that.
In this video, we'll explore some of the best malls in video games and get into why developers have turned to these enclosed environments again and again over the years. So please, make yourself comfortable, and let's hit some virtual malls!

If you want to wander around in a mall there are so many incredibly detailed malls on roblox just for walking around, some even have activities. I recommend it, so many malls from different decades and they're so beautifully rendered

I don't know if you know about this online game mode but the game Metal Gear Online 2 has a DLC Map called Outer Outlet that's a multiplayer battlefield in a mall complete with parking spots, multiple levels, coffee shops, jewelry stores, etc. Was wondering what your opinion on it was!

Loved this, I actually searched for this sort of video a few months ago and didn’t get as many results as I expected, I’m planning to try and setup the revived PlayStation home project on my PC and explore the old mall on that & hopefully see a more fleshed out north point mall in the new GTA whenever that comes out!

Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death had a fun mall level, a combination of open stores and closed areas where you fought both gang members and vampires, as well as the odd zombie. Despite being a postapocalyptic future dystopian setting, the mall felt like a futuristic version of an old 80s or 90s mall.
Ooh, that looks like a fun one. Surprised it didn't come up during my research! There's one in Doom Eternal too, but I didn't play through enough of the game to reach it when I was producing this video.

Great video!!! I also have the same interest with malls and video games I'll go with Dead Rising 4 as my favorite. You can say what you want about the game itself but the mall in that game is great I love the Christmas setting. I also hope GTA 6 has a mall it's overdue I would love to see North point mall again since it's set in VC .But this time I would like a crazy amount of detail and things to do in it like eating at a food court and having a movie theater in it ect...

there is a level in hypnagogia: boundless dreams that is one of my favorite liminal malls and liminal spaces in gaming of all time. there's even a backrooms easter egg. i highly recommend the game in general as it is full of good liminal and dreamlike scenery

GTA V actually covered more than Los Angeles. They have an area based on the Salton Sea and some of the weird stuff around the deserts of southern California, which I've been to a number of times. The recreation was astounding to me. Seeing places you recognize add so much, and I can see why the mall is so popular.
