  • Antique Razor Blade Sharpener. This is a very cool piece of 100 year old technology for stropping blades for a safety razor. I think it's meant to keep new blades honed to a fine edge, but here we're trying to see if it can successfully sharpen a dull blade. Interesting results.

Wow all that blade handling and nobody got cut. I'm impressed. Whether that machine works or not it's pretty cool.

I was thinking that same thing. Biggest risk is handling that stupid blade!

My Dad was a barber in his younger days, he's got a couple straight razors. I've never tried those.

These blades are way cheaper than disposable razors. I don't like using an electric razor because I don't shave every day.

I started shaving with a safety razor 3 years ago and will never go back! I like trying different brushes, shaving creams, safety razors and blades. My skin used to get irritated from the five blades they sell now but since I’ve switched I look forward to getting a close shave and feeling good!

My wife bought me a brush and soap probably 25 years ago but I probably started using this razor 4-5 years ago.
Have you seen the adds to the Halverson or Henson- something like that razors? Curious about them.

@@lovesloudcars no sorry I’ve never seen what they advertise. I have a collection of old Gillette razors which I bought in a kijiji sale.

I've seen the interview on RUclips of the modern blades. They sound impressive. I also don't remember the name.

@@harveywright396 I found a review for their razors. Some people get pretty hard core into shaving and collecting razors. I watched it and read all the comments and still have no idea if I want to try one or stick with what I've got.

I would guess it probably works better if you strop it after every use or every other use as a maintenance thing rather than sharpening it. I picked up a variety of blades that I’m working through to pick my favourite blade type.

Good point om maintenance vs sharpening.
My favorite brand is whatever is sharp.

I do have both but the other was closer. I use the brush 95% of the time no matter if it's soap or a can.

@@lovesloudcars I buy the Japanese blades. They last pretty good and are so cheap I just swap out for a new one when it dulls.
