    Great video. For me, antelope is the one big game species where I really look at the horns and say - "yeah, that is the look I like" or "no, don't really look the like of that one." Shape plays a huge role in what I am interested in shooting at. Once they get to a certain size, overall look scores higher than inches in my book.

    Thanks for this video Randy. I drew a Sheldon Refuge tag here in Nevada this year and hope to find a big pronghorn. This video is really helpful for a guy who doesn’t have much pronghorn experience.

    Your taxidermist does some outstanding work. Those mounts could be in a museum.

      Simple math gets hard as I get older. Hopefully I'm never tested on fractions or long division.

    Great stuff, Randy. You've shot some real impressive bucks, and I love what you said "Ugly first and big second." I would LOVE to shoot a freak buck, but I've yet to see one during the season.
    They all taste good, so just enjoy the hunt and look for what you personally like.

      Yes, they all taste great, which is why it is hard to get too worked up over horn size.

    Hey Mr. Newberg I shot an antelope and it has extra horns on the back should I get it mounted?

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 лет назад +1

      I would. Freaky bucks are of the greatest admiration at my house. Congrats.

    Cool Video. I would be interested in how to judge a mature buck in the field.

      Working on that video.

      Sweet, I think I can tell a 90" buck is a good one especially in a harvest photo. For me it's the hardest animal to judge.

      You passed on one that looked ok, you walked to maybe 20 yds with your friend who held your bullet. Southern Wyoming. Would have been hard for me to pass. I have not been antelope hunting. I think this they are the next species for me.

    I'm like you I don't care what an animal scores I worry more about the character and taste

      Yup. Every pronghorn I've taken was record book table fare. Thanks for watching.

    How do you clean/polish the horns?

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 лет назад

      I use a damp cloth to clean them. Some use different stains or polishes. I don't.

  • @shawnkasemodel9751

    Any idea how to get the smell out of the horns?

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  7 лет назад

      Never had them smell. Once you get them off the cores, clean thoroughly and bond them back on the core. Odor would be if you didn't get all the tissue out of the core and did not disinfect the cores good. Use baking soda, borax, or some other cleaning agent.

      @shawnkasemodel9751 7 лет назад

      Thanks Randy I'm going to try some borax. Hope you do an antelope hunt in Montana some day.

    I am going on my first antelope hunt this October. These videos are great. I hope I can find something like your massive pronged European mount buck. I would have shot him over your ivory tipped European mount any day..... that being said I would be proud to have either. I am excited for the experience and hope to be in need of antelope recipes... do you have any???

    • @Fresh_Tracks
      @Fresh_Tracks  6 лет назад

      Good luck. Any recipe you use for deer or other red meat will be delicious with antelope.
