What's with all these people kicking out minors? That's illegal by itself and people who would kick out a sixteen-year-old are just as likely to do the same to a ten-year-old. The drama you're looking for by a minor on the streets is lessened because the protagonist is nearing adulthood and can conceivably take care of themselves. Have you ever seen a jaunty musical about a sixteen-year-old orphan falling in line with a band of pick-pocketing street urchins led by a druggie? Didn't think so.
