    I hate that you need to download an app. Apple should have got this feature for the macbook. I have the M3 and that came out after the iPhone 15 and that has the limit and this doesn't

      It does have it, just keep it plugged in for a week and the device will learn that routine and next time you remove it from the charger it will just charge or discharge by itself to 80% as long as it's plugged in.

      @@HarTmanN_erik I'm not trusting that. The device will learn. Nope. I tried it with the iPhone 13 pro max and that didn't learn anything. Still kept charging to 100% instead of stopping at 80% like I wanted. So I have had to manually take it off charge, all the time. 80% charging limit option should be on all devices. Not just the iPhone 15 and newer. That's one of the reasons why Apple are so annoying. They create unnecessary problems

      @@mohammedfaiisal well it's your phone, it's not on the charger 24/7, and I was referring to the macbook not the iphone. But for your macbook air m3, leaving it on the charger and barely taking it off charge, MacOS will optimised itself to charge only to 80% and then casually discharge from to time to time, apple mention this on their website as it is not healthy for the battery to maintain a specific percentage of charge. I recommend that you check it out.
      From my personal experience with my m3 since it's always on charger for majority of its time, whenever I take it of charge, it tell what time it will take to charge to 100% and after that discharge by itself to 80% . and then discharge to 77% then back to 80%.

      @@HarTmanN_erik my macbook has gotten to 81-84% a lot of times, because I forget to take it off charge. Even with me taking it off charge at 80% manually, all the time, before and in between that. Even after that I take it off charge at 80% and still other times, I see it just about go above 80%. What the iPhone 15 has, is what the laptops the watches and the iPads need. It's 100% more safe and guaranteed to have an option to choose how much to charge it to, rather than rely on optimisation and machine learning, when it still hasn't learned how I like to charge my macbook

      @@mohammedfaiisal Well if you want such options why not use a windows device? They already have built in services that gives you options on how to charge your battery. Such as Asus laptops, they have a power management applications that lets you hover at 60-80-100%. And how long do you intend anyway to keep using your devices? No matter how meticulously you charge your batteries there will always be wear and tear, software updates will come that require more processing power. That will further exacerbate the issue of power consumption, so just use your machine the way you want. No need to stress on such matters, and that might be the reason why apple chose machine learning over user personalisation. Being Apple, they just want to make it simple and not make it complicated for their users. Because let's face it people buy new devices without even reaching five years of use.

    Amazing explanation and tips. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have some questions about this; you say you need to recalibrate every month. Can you explain how exactly to calibrate it, does that mean putting the level up to 100% and then almost emptying it? Also, what do you advise if you use your Mac in a standard location a lot, is it wise to keep it plugged in and stop charging at 80% to keep it at that level or is that not recommended?

    awesome. Is there a way where we can automate charging when battery is 10% all the way to 80% and run on battery until 10% and start charging again keeping the power on always.

    Doesn't work, when the Mac goes sleeping the charge goes on and doesn't stop to whatever value you put in this app

    In System Settings, there is an option for "Optimum Charge" which charging limits to 80%.
    Try Battery -> Battery Performance Status -> (i)

    Newest Mac OS already has this feature built in. It takes about a week for the Operating System to keep track of your charging habits, and then it automatically starts to zone in at 80% battery, and locks it in there even with the power cord connected. No need for additional app.

    • @GrandFyre
      @GrandFyre 14 дней назад

      @conveyor2 you literally just go do a search in Mac OS settings for "Battery Optimization" and just turn on the setting. Then leave your Macbook plugged in for a while up until it gets to 100%, then in about a day or two, the next time you get it down to 80%, after this, when you plug back in the laptop to power again, it will not let it charge beyond 80% and your orange charge light on your power cable will not turn green. It will just "hold" the battery percentage charged at specifically 80%, and it will not let it get passed 80%, unless you go into your battery status and tell it to override the battery optimization setting. The override will have an option to "top up' the battery passed 80%, but do NOT click it, just let the system do what it wants to do, to hold your battery while plugged in at 80%. This will significantly reduce the amount of battery cycles the battery will go to. Thus preserve the battery capacity for many more years.

      @@shehryariqbal2581 There's no real way to turn it on in settings (not that I know of, anyway). You just have to use it while plugged in a lot and apple will figure out your charging routine.
