The sound of that V6 is timeless. What a car. Give me a short-ratio 5-speed kit and it’s perfect. Also, that house and driveway full of Hondas is lottery-winning goals
My dad had this same year in green from new. First car I recall riding in. I remember him ripping me down the interstate at 125+ mph. I turned into a professional race car driver, this car had a lot to do with inspiring 5 year old me.
this is exactly what a sports car should be. we live in a day of 4-5k pound land barges that make insane unusable power for the streets. this car here does it at. i lusted after this car as a young man in the 90s and still do today. perfection.
Gr86/BRZs on the lot for 30k right now.. pick them up while they are here. Lots of reliability mods and turbo kits are in development. I get your sentiment, but companies will not make sports cars if new model years are not being sold.
This video shows the urgency of this car. Ive heard comments that its considered slow by modern standards....fine....maybe, but it is not.....slow. I drove a 98 last year, and was really surprised at the torque and power curve.
God man, the sound makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I so wish I could have afforded to buy one of these cars in the early 2010s when they were selling for $30K. Feels bad man
Same. I regret not buying one from the guy that used to specialize in rebuilding salvage ones (I wouldn't care, as long as it drive as it should, as that's what's it's meant for)
Honda engines from the 90's and early 2000's were just special. We can also thank this car for the rest of the exotic car makers getting their crap together. Ferrari's and Lambos of the 80's and 90's may have looked good, but they were utter trash from a ergonomic and dynamic perspective. They were simply hard machines to use and drive well. The NSX changed all that and forced them all to adapt.
I agree, a lot of suspensions in the 90s had a compliance and sophistication that is rare today. I think the difference between a good suspension and a great one--that still allows you to feel the road--is that a good one feels like it's gently rolling over pits and bumps, while a great one feels like it's softly stepping over them. Almost like it can think for itself.
Ah yes, one of my favorite Honda products. Would love to drive one someday, it's pretty much the perfect sports car: practical, reliable, and fun. And VTEC sounds awesome as usual!
The 97+ 6-speed solves the issues for tall gearing. When I had to get a new clutch for my 92 red/black, I then opted to get the JDM short gears. I also went for the Type R final drive that shortened all the gears by another 4%-5%. What a difference! The car is way more drivable around town and it feels much quicker. Why the US got the taller gearing while the rest of the world had JDM gearing as standard bewilders me. I’m driving my NSX even more these days and the gearing makes it worthwhile. Worth every penny and would never go back to the taller gearing. My car was reviewed by the Zygrene channel owner. You can see how much quicker the car gets to redline with the shorter gearing. Jump to 8 minute mark for acceleration run. ruclips.net/video/J554HrzV2F0/видео.html

Next door neighbor had one in silver, when I was a kid. It was ordered brand new, I still remember the trailer dropping it off. He took me for a ride, it was like a go-kart. The handling is like it's on rails. Shame they're so expensive now but I understand why.. I really liked the still shots of the car with the engine sounds in the background. Please continue doing that on future reviews!
this is the car that makes mclaren f1 designer crazy with it, sadly honda didnt want to make a v12 for mclaren f1, i cant imagine how legendary it will be if this happened
One of your best videos ever. I will watch this many times. I just want to put on my favourite set of headphones, sit in my comfiest chair and listen to that engine all day. Nice clear video as well. Lighting was perfect. well done. 👍👍👍
Gosh, I remember buying an Integra GSR, and when I went to pick it up, the dealer had a championship white NSX right next to it. They were super rare, and usually away from view, but they let me sit in it and I was in awe! Great memories, and a great video!!
I have an NA1. It's not fast in anyway, the gears are way too long, and it has no power steering. None of that matters. It feels special everytime i drive it. The sound lf the engine and the feeling on the drivers seat is unmatched

Great video. My first NSX was a 95 Targa I bought for $31k back in 2011. If you like this car, review a 1997-2005 NSX is even better. I sold my 95 for a 2005 in Long Beach Blue Pearl
"Did everything better than Ferrari and did it a little too well, but didn't get as much recognition." Truer word was never spoken, and I think that's true of a lot of Japanese products when compared to their European competition (like Grand Seiko and Rolex). But, I think Honda deserves a lot of the blame. When they didn't get the recognition they deserved, they did practically nothing to promote the NSX, so when sales languished, they just pulled the plug. Just like they did with the Prelude, Integra, CRX, S 2000 and Legend. Just like Toyota did with the LFA. That's why I can't get too excited about the return of the Prelude and Toyota Celica. If history's any indication, they'll be gone again in 6-7 years. Sorry to be a party pooper. Another awesome video, by the way.
Kinda crazy that today's base WRX puts out the same 270hp, more torque and has only 200lbs more curb weight. Obviously a totally different driving experience, but there are alot more performance options available today than there were then
Amazing how Honda was able to create the perfect car decades ago. I feel like we'll never return to an age of low dashboards and hoods and expansive cockpit glass and finely tuned NA engines... It really bums me out.
If I had the cheddar to get a 95 NSX, I would get it in red, just so I can tell Ferrari snobs that “it’s the one red supercar that actually got it right. “ Then I would just drive away.
To be fair the actual gear ratios aren't *that* tall, it looks like in 5th you'd sit at about 3000 rpm at 70, its just that it has an 8000 rpm redline, so the top speed in each gear is higher.
Depends on the year. 91-94 have the longest 2nd gear, 95-96 received a slightly shorter 2nd, and 6spd is a lot closer than either. However, If you do JDM gear set then 1-3 are basically identical between the 5pd and 6spd, but 5-6 are much closer still. I have the JDM gear set and NSXR 4.23 final drive and thus enjoy shorter gearing than even stock USDM 6spd, at least up to 4th IIRC. For N/A applications the 6spd with a shorter final drive (4.23 up to 4.55 depending on the track) would ideal. People prefer 5spd for boosted application for its strength and longer gears though.
@@larryleung9514 thank you for your insight and congratulations on owning one of the best JDM cars of all time. I currently have a '24 Civic Si and I'm hoping to get an NA2 NSX in the future.
Shame it isn't a '97, I'd expect the 6-speed to be a more enjoyable drive. If I'm doing this "80mph in second gear" nonsense, I want Porsche's 4.0L flat six. The 6-speed manual V6 accords have a similar sound up top, and 3rd reaches to 85-90mph in those. I like cars where you can have fun at the top of third in plenty of situation, which my ND2 Miata is also plenty capable of. That shift knob does look identical to the one my 5-speed '97 Accord had.
The sound of that V6 is timeless. What a car. Give me a short-ratio 5-speed kit and it’s perfect. Also, that house and driveway full of Hondas is lottery-winning goals
