Whoooah...that could have been big trouble stranded out there. I use to ride the desert 200 miles southwest of there, 100 mile range of fuel and Id go 50 miles in everytime, the KLX always made it out {EFI for the win!!!}. All my carb bikes gave me problems in 100 degree heat and with big elevation changes out there. Vapor Lock was culprit once on my Vstar 1100, dropped down into Palm Springs from mnts 4ft from 70 degrees to 110 degrees. Bike was chugging, then seen gas boiling over from carb's and it hit pipes then started on fire for a few seconds LOL. Heard the hissing like u said from cap, once loosened it vented loudly. I let it sit for a day cuz I arrived at destination and it ran fine after that.
Have you removed and cleaned the fuel tap and screen? Could be junk or water in the tank, or a pinched fuel line or vent hose. Gotta be something simple.
I live in the U.S. ,and have never ridden in the west. I'm envious of you Curtis. Fantastic track, sorry you had engine trouble.
Oh mate, make sure you get over there
i love the "at my age im getting over tinkering" then back to Oz and deep into it with KLR etc :)
Haha yep. But I'm not tinkering with carbies!
Always an epic adventure brother 👊 glad you made it out
Was a mean track

Hear and elevation aye. I honestly don't want another carby bike now after dealing with so many fuelling issues

Ended up stripping and cleaning the carby. Seemed to do the trick
It wears you out real quick that sorta terrain.
Certainly does. Plenty of stops and water
Great video, did you find out what was wrong with the bike in the end?
I ended up taking the whole carby out, stripped and cleaned it. That seemed to fix it up on the next ride.
Hey mate. Do you know of anywhere with similar terrain in Victoria?
Yep, the Hattah desert race is in Victoria. Some mean riding there
@@onthebackwheel 500km away might be a bit far on a CRF300l :)
Anything closer to Melbourne?
@@AdventureDano pretty far! I'm not sure tbh, I've only ridden there on road once for a Phillip Island trip
WTF, what was it? Sounds like fuel or plug/HT breaking down.
Ended up stripping the carby completely and cleaned it multiple times. That seemed to fix it
@@onthebackwheel Did you find this footage on an old hard drive in an unpacked box.
@@ShadowVonChadwick not far off. Old sd card
