The White Shark population increase (main emphasis, California Coast) is a big problem and it is only going to get worse. There should be NO harvest moratorium on White Sharks. They are not endangered, quite the contrary. I spearfish, surf, line fish and kayak. I spend a lot of time in the water, but have yet to see a White. I know they are there, and now in increasing number. My question is, when contact with Whites continues to increase in the area of bites and or death, who is going to take responsibility for this. I am also a cyclist, mainly road but MTB as well. Do we all remember the Lion attack at Whiting Ranch back in early 2000 (2004 i think)? And there have been other California attacks and a multitude of sightings, especially in SoCal neighborhoods, but up north as well. Due in large part to the moratoriom on hunting mountain lions. I dont know a single line fisherman who will not kill a White given the opportunity. From where I stand, perhaps that is a good thing. When you can fly a drone from Malibu to Santa Monica on any given day, and spot not only one, but sometimes more, Great Whites within a mile of shore, we have a developing problem. Some spots in Malibu I spear are approx one mile out. And on a good swell most spots, your drop in is half a mile plus, out.
Who is going to take responsibility for increased Great White attacks and deaths?
