    PLEASE do some more videos like this. These little tricks are so invaluable , but you never learn them unless someone tells you, so your modeling skills only evolve when people are generous enough to share their "secrets" to others. Thanks for sharing.

    OMG, I made something similar to make oxygen hose for 1/32 pilots, but the idea to cover using termocontractile sleeve tubing.....its INCREDIBLE!

    Nice tutorial! When you flex the ready-made cables, the heatshrink can flatten out (especially with extreme tight bends, see for example 6:52). To prevent this, you can always pre-shape the wire, particularly if you know kinda how it should fit into your project, and then heat up the heatshrink. That will make it conform to the details on the outside of the bend a bit better, and you will still be able to shape the wire a bit after.

    Really cool effect! I've used coiled wire for scratchbuilt details, but I've never thought to put heatshrink around it... but now I'm like, "Duh, why didn't I think of that?"

    One of my favorite cable sources is old bass guitar strings, they're perfectly for bare metal use or heat shrinking like this

  • @seanmeadows129
    @seanmeadows129 3 года назад +6

    A great tutorial, Thank you. Just a thought, perhaps you could cut away some parts of the heat shrink sleeve so the inner cables would show through. This worn appearance would be good for 40k Orks for example. Hope this is beneficial for everyone.

    Yeah, this is brilliant, the hot glue example was specially genius :)
    You might want to see if you can get a cheap heat gun, i think even a hairdryer might do, far more consistent than flame and without risk of burning the tubing

    • @CutTransformGlue
      @CutTransformGlue  3 года назад +3

      Yeah totally! I've got myself a hairdryer to set paint, I'll see if it's strong enough for the heat shrink tubes

    • @fishnoggin5319
      @fishnoggin5319 3 года назад

      @Brique Zallivam I guess it depends on where you were putting them. Guitar strings might work better in terms of bending, but I don't think the windings would show through as well.

    What I love about the wire wrapped around a wire is that they are still insulated from each other and can still be used to carry electricity. If you like putting LEDs or other electronics in your models, these become a functional detail which is super cool.

    May I leave a suggestion: you could try and make some bolts and nuts by cutting a hex beam out of plastic (scrape the thick short plastic rod into hexagonal shape, then heat and stretch. You should get the longer and thinner hexagonal filament, which you can cut hexagonal nuts from. Very useful for finer details.

    • @CutTransformGlue

      I've been looking for a hexagonal plastic bar of some sort, to try exactely this! Never found anything, though :/... But rest assured that if and when I find it (must be a cheap and easy way), a tutorial will be posted here... Thanks a lot, mate!
