Hi there! Thanks for the reaction. A little background on this particular song in case you are one of the people who’s been living under a rock for the past 8 months. This song was originally titled October Rain, and is a tribute to the young people who died last October at the NOVA music festival, when Hamas, amongst others, broke into Israel, shooting, burning, mutilating, r*ping, literally anyone they came across, killing over 1200 people, and taking over 130 hostages, including elderly, pregnant women and children in neighbouring towns. As of right now, the youngest hostage is just over a year old, and many elderly have already died in captivity. The barbarity of this attack by these militias from Gaza, prompted Israel to Declare War on Hamas in Gaza. 8 months on, still half of the hostages are in captivity, being tortured and r*ped. Youngest hostage Kfir Bibas is only a year old.
This song was originally written as a tribute to the souls who were taken before their time, and a message to those left behind. That we, isrealis and Jews, collectively, are still mourning and broken from this “hurricane”/ Attack. The lyrics and title had to be changed to appease the Eurovision Song Contest, since it was deemed “too political”. While performing on stage in Malmo, Eden, the contestant from Israel had to sing this song in front and during the loudest and most heinous booing and chanting. Was unable to leave her hotel room without police escort cos THOUSANDS of protesters where gathering and chanting outside her room, on the way to the competition, during the competition and more. So let that sink in for a sec. A Jewish girl, singing a song about the most brutal and deadliest attack on the Jewish ppl since the holocaust, singing about mourning loved ones, WAS NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE HER ROOM, or sing, because ppl were chanting death to Israel and free Palestine the entire time.
When she finally got back home after her ordeal during Eurovision, the families and friends of the hostages organised a demonstration to raise more awareness and pressure the government to make plans to rescue hostages. At this demonstration, Eden Golan was able to sing the original version of this song, live, without all the flashy background stuff, with the original lyrics, the way they were meant to be heard in front of the families and friends of the fallen and the taken. If you want to hear the real “live” version, look up Eden Golan October Rain. it’s so emotionally heartbreaking, and Eden is the perfect person to express just how much pain they are feeling right now.
