Thanx for motivating me to do this job today. Ive just bought a clk 220 cdi 2008, with 71,000miles. Took the valve out and ut wasnt as bad as yours. But sprayed it with oven cleaner and washed down with brake cleaner! Came up a treat. Muchas gracias !
You need to clean the mechanism inside too, mine was packed full of carbon, lol, just pull on that tab in the plastic cover. Might be a good idea to grese the mechanism too.
Ours would not come out, so we tapped the EGR with M8 thread and raised it out. We removed the cap to clean it, as it is the shaft that gets stuck. Don't forget that there is an air inlet on the side of the EGR.
Good stuff. I'll be removing mine again shortly, since it's been a year now from the last cleaning and if it gets stuck badly, I'll try it your way. Thanks!
I wouldn't be able to tell if it really works until it's installed back after cleaning it (although there might be a way of connecting it to power, but I didn't do it). I could not push the valve up using screwdriver. After cleaning it all up, I was able to push it without a problem (I was pushing it slowly up and sticking a screwdriver on top between the top opening of the valve as you can see on the video and spraying the cleaner below and moving it up and down until it was moving freely) . Before cleaning EGR, my car coughed strangely when I was starting it in the morning and and engine icon showed up on the dashboard. It has never happened before. I cleared the code P404 with OBD2 diagnostic tool, and it went away, but to my surprise, when I started driving it, there was no power at all. The car was struggling to reach 40 miles/h despite pedal to the metal. The car was obviously in limping mode. I've managed to get to the shop and bought EGR cleaner. The rest is in the video. I cleared the code after cleaning and installing EGR back. Went for a test drive and the car was even more powerful than before. Clearly noticeable difference.
I think i need to do it on m’y ‘03 c220 same engine bought used in 2011 with 133000km and now 223000km I never did it, i don’t use it much since 2019 and i feel like it consume more gasoline and less powerfull, dunno if it can help
@@drkorzon hello! Thank you for video. How do you manual activate this ERG valve to see if it still works?

What a great name you use Brother!
God bless you!
Do not put in valve screw driver, you will damage surface, remove plastic cover from actuator and move valve by hand.

I would recommend it. Let me know how it went.
