1:11 What's a JHD? Sounds high-tech. 🤓 7:05 The Senbon Torii trail looks like a great experience, or should I say GATE experience! ⛩🙈 12:29 "Welcome to Kinkaku-ji Temple. Please be aware that today a Guinness World Record for the largest kazoo ensemble is being attempted." 🐝🤣 19:19 "Clair de Lune" plays as Claire walks past a room. "Claire de Room"? 🤔🙈 23:37 "Peace and happiness, and a stopped watch." 🤣 25:31 That Bamboo Forest looks beautiful. Very relaxing. 🎋☺️ 27:51 Totally Simon, yeah. 🙌 I was just thinking, that looks exactly like the stone walls at the back of Epcot's Japan pavilion. 🌐 30:12. Yum, that Port Cutlet looks SO good! 🍛😋 32:43 You're welcome. Another great video. Thanks for taking us around all the temples. 😊
Your charm is irresistible!!😁 You look energetic.💪 You have a great smile. I love you!!😘 I still have an impression to Kyoto Old town, Kinkakuji temple. it was gorgeous gold, overwhelmed extraordinary sacred power.
I'm Japanese. I was born and raised on the side of Fushimi Inari. It's a mysterious feeling because it's an everyday scenery for me, but I'm glad to be introduced by a foreigner.
So much amazing scenery and amazing as architecture. I can't believe how well maintained and clean everything is. Those octopus dumplings are high on my list to try whenever I get to Japan one day. There's so much history, I could get lost for days in that city I think. Food looks amazing. Thanks again for sharing as always!!!
So many things looked like Epcot. The castle looks like a miniature version of the Imperial Palace. I can't tell you the number of items my Mom and I bought at the grocery store based on the picture on the outside. We came home with some real doozies. Re: your miso soup kit kat. lol. Am loving these videos. Thank you so much for all the hard work. Love the music interspersed too. Good job. Diane
Hi Claire! I am loving this! The architecture, gardens, ponds with koi, cleanliness, just everything! Really enjoying seeing everything through your eyes!
Claire these vlogs are amazing, you should be so proud! Japan is at the top of our bucket list, hopefully once our son is a bit older we’ll go. You’ve done a great job at capturing how beautiful it is there!
Another interesting look around a Kyoto. Isabelle said all breakfast should start with doughnuts. 🤣 You wouldn’t need to go to Zumba after your visit to the Fushimi Inari Shrine. Isabelle asked me what does the writing on gates says. Like I’d know..... lol As you kept climbing the steps she then said “you wouldn’t visit here grandad”. The Golden Temple was stunning but by the time you’d visited the third one Isabelle said “not another temple”. 🤣🤣 Her eyes lit up at the size of the ice-cream Simon got but he was brave choosing the mixed flavours and the green kit-kat a definite no no. The bamboo forest was amazing as was the castle and the book club runners. 😂😂 Really enjoyed this so full of culture and your chicken dinner looked so good.
How beautiful and I love the history....a friend of mine brought me a bunch of snacks and to be honest they weren't terrible but I did not like the flavors of any of them... I was so surprise as I like to try different things... Thanks again for another brilliant job !!!
Somehow I watched the Kyoto ones out of sequence and was wondering in the second one why you hadn't gone to the places in this vlog before you went to Tokyo ! Any way fabulous vlog. Thanks for the details around the costs and how to get around. I hope we are lucky with the weather when we go. Congratulations on reaching 9000 subscribers. We have had a very hectic time here in Florida. We spent a couple days in the Everglades and Sanibel Island both beautiful. We went to a really wacky restaurant on Sanibel Island called The Bubble Room. Well worth a visit. We are both loving exploring parts of Florida that are off the beaten track. Looking forward to the next vlog x
Oh no how weird that they were in the wrong order! I'll check that out on my playlist! Aw you're welcome, glad they've been helpful. Ooh I've never heard of that restaurant! Will have to check that out. That's great getting to explore more of Florida. There's so much to see! Thanks for watching and hope you're having a lovely long relaxing time in FL
Konnichiwa from Tokyo! I actually watched this from the airport lounge on Wednesday as promised but couldn't comment for some reason! Thanks so much to Simon for the tip on Kit Kats to avoid - I would have gone for the green as it's my favourite colour so his reaction saved me! I still haven't found the Cheesecake flavour ones or my clear Pepsi so going on the hunt tonight after my meeting as it's my last night! Looking forward to the next one!
@@aclaireytale I've actually really enjoyed it. My meeting finished early today so I did a little bit of vlogging - will let you know when I post it as found something that reminded me of you!
Congratulations Claire for hitting 9K on your RUclips channel! I loved the vlog today Claire. The Bamboo forest was like out of a movie. The way the sun was hitting the trees, as it was was setting, just magical. I can’t get over how peaceful and clean Japan seems. I guess I thought it was all crazy like Tokyo. Miso soup Kit Kat- what in the world?!? Crazy! Simon and you are doing a great job documenting your trip. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I didn't even realise oh my goodness thank you!!! That's so exciting! Ah the bamboo forest really was magical, so serene. Oh it is so peaceful and clean. Loved it. So glad you are enjoying the vlogs thanks for watching Jenn!!
Haha yay glad you liked that, Disney is in our genetic make up, I'll never not mention it ;). Bless you about next week's vlog haha thank you so much!!!
It's well worth getting a prepaid IC card if visiting Japan - A Pasmo card for example - which can be charged up at train stations when it gets low. It can be used to pay for buses, trams, the subway system, used for vending machines and in convenience stores. The Pasmo brand card we used covered us for Tokyo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka. No one brand - the top ones are Suica and Pasmo - will cover all regions and train lines, but these are the two most common ones. Massive time saver and very convenient. You can buy them online before travelling I think, or buy them at a station when you get there.
That was an interesting watch... I may have to check out some of those sights out one day. It seems like a very clamming place to be. I suddenly feel really relaxed. What was your favorite food adventure you guys had during the trip? Just trying out the food seems like an adventure in itself!
Aw Bailey it really was incredible!! There is a restaurant we go to in Tokyo that we loved but you're right haha the food was such an adventure! Simon is much more adventurous than I am though haha
Thanks for these every detailed (particularly on getting about in Japan) vlogs, these will be very helpful for my trip to Tokyo/Kyoto in July! I Intend to go to Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama Bamboo grove for the 5am sunrises over a couple of days to get the experience (and some great photos) with minimum to no people.
What are lovely place this is just up our street, lovely gardens and temples better start training to conquer all those steps, when we were in Hong Kong we walked up to the big Buddha and that was a killer at least in Kyoto there doesn't seem to be any cows walking around HaHa. How expensive is it to visit the sites and although there are lots of vending machines are there also lots of public toilets?
Yes haha it was very tiring but so worth it!!! So I think I mentioned how much each temple was - around 300-500 yen each temple and Fushimi Inari was completely free! Everything so cheap over there. Yes there were lots of toilets don't worry haha. Wow that walk in Hong Kong sounds interesting!
Finally got the chance to watch these - and I have a few to go through - perfect! You managed to get a lot done in one day - and such amazing places too! You definitely made the most out of your time there. Can't wait to see where you went next! x
Those temples looked amazing! The gates looked like dominos almost with how close they were together! Lol! Plus that bamboo forest looked incredible! I think I would have a hard time trying to find things to eat lol...but im sure it was an adventure trying all the different foods. And stay away from the green kit kats! Lol! Can't wait for next week! :)
Haha you're right they do!! Haha I promise you will find something, I'm not the most adventurous with food, you'll see I tend to stick with chicken and pork on this trip haha and it's Simon trying all the funky things! Thanks for watching Josh
WOW! The temples were beautiful and the bamboo forest looks so serene. Thank you for taking us along on the journey. My husband wondered if Simon will appear on the vlogs, other than a voice from beyond lol
We visited Kyoto in May 2019 and stayed at the Daiwa Royal Hotel Grande Kyoto, which is about a five minute walk from Kyoto Station. The rooms were the size of American hotels, the largest of non-American brand hotels we stayed in while visiting Japan. IIRC, it was less than $100 USD per night. We ate the breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant everyday, which had a nice variety of Western and Japanese food items.
WOW! Just. WOW. What a day, what an adventure!! You’re both being so adventurous (well maybe Simon more than you when it comes to the kit kats 🤣👏🏼) absolutely loving these videos Claire! Thanks for sharing x
Yes definitely Simon is more adventurous than me when it comes to food haha! I'll just film it ;). Aw I'm so glad you are enjoying them Lucy, thank you so much for watching!
I wanted to say thanks for posting all of your Vlogs - was a lot of fun watching them! So glad you enjoyed your first trip to Japan! My wife and I visited Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo in the first 2 weeks of Spetember 2019, so we were there just before you were - so this brought back a lot of great memories :) Can't wait to get another opportunity to visit! What is the name of the piece of music you use when climbing up the Inari shrine steps?
Aw I am so glad you have enjoyed watching these vlogs, that means so much! Wow that we were there a such a similar time! Hope you had an amazing time too. We couldn't quite squeeze in Osaka, maybe next time!! I think it's Mizuki from the RUclips Library
Claire can I just say how amazing these Japan vlogs are-I have always wanted to go and these videos are a great help so sooooo looking forward to the next. It’s funny because just like you did in the first video the first thing I do in a foreign airport is head for the shop - the wife complains but sure what the heck lol. Keep up your great work
Brilliant vlog Claire, such beautiful temples , are you bowing ??? 😂😂😂 ......just put your hands in the water...peace and happiness .....and a stopped watch 😂😂😂 and that green kit-kat was probably a Cat treat lol xx
Yay another Japan vlog! You went in so many more temples than I did - I just looked at them from the outside. The order point at the restaurant was very cool, and a nice way to get round the language barrier. The green KitKat is matcha tea, I'm pretty sure! It's got an acquired, earthy taste but I love it. Are there more mystery KitKat tastings in the upcoming vlogs? I loved trying the different regional and seasonal varieties.
In fact! I've done some more research and it looks like these are part of the otona-no-amasa collection (sweetness for adults) and I think it might be the STRONG green tea flavour with double the amount of matcha!
Double the amount?? Haha wow that would explain it!!! Haha thank you for letting us know. Yeah well it was so cheap to get in we wanted to go in plus we both knew we probably wouldn't go back. (well who knows haha). Thank you so much for watching Bethany!
Love the sarcastic “yummmm” after Simon said the ice cream tastes like grass, that’s exactly what I was thinking 😂 Another great vlog Claire! You’ve made me want to go to Japan even more now! x
Hey its only 3 pm!! Oh Thats right your across the pond !!hahaha Love the video Claire . Absolutely amazing so many great sites thanks for sharing this spectacular day!
Aww it really is the most stunning. Haha not the best idea, I didn't realise how much of a hike it was going to be!! Worth it though!! Thanks for watching, glad it's bringing back some good memories
Yeah you pay the driver as you get off for the local trains I think we only did it a few times and then in Tokyo itself we got the Suica card which is a bit like the Oyster card. Thanks for watching!
I loved the Torii gates when we went. I had to take several breaks on the way up. Did any of the locals ask to take pictures with you? We had several groups come up to us and ask if they could take pictures with us. I think it was because both my daughters have blonde hair and that's unusual over there. Sorta made us feel like we were famous or something. :)
Haha no they didn't. Probably because we're not blonde haha that's so cool that people kept asking you, famous for the trip. Glad you enjoyed the Torii gates too, they're so incredible aren't they? It was mesmerising. Thanks for watching Chrystie!! Glad these are bringing back memories for you!
So, did some people not go all the way? I’m just curious why fewer people as you go higher. Pizza bao...yum That chant almost sounded like a rap song. Simon was quick in this one.
Yeah it's quite a hike so most just stay towards the bottom. Haha he is always quick I am glad I was able to capture a few of his one liners in this vlog though haha. Thank you so much for watching!
Guess what. I'm going to Japan next March 8th to 22nd 2020 with my younger brother so it's not too soon. I'm fully hope it will have sakura bloom in tokyo on 19 March 2020 Im going to osaka, Hiroshima, nagoya, Kyoto, tokyo, kamakura, yokohama and also nikko
@mrjo2thec no and yes it was a postponed because of STUPIDITY MAINLAND CHINA BURNED MY FLIGHT TICKET! I will go there by the end of this year or next year. In the future I will never ever go to mainland China despite we lost millions of people passes away from covid 19
These vlogs make me want to go to Japan! Kyoto and the surrounding area looks beautiful! About how long was your bus ride and the train rides to places like the bamboo forest?
Aww you really should it's so good! Bus ride was about 30mins I think? It doesn't take long at all. The transport systems are so efficient. Thank you for watching!!
Hi Claire, great vlog! Do you mind me asking, between what dates in September did you travel to Japan ? Everyone was dressed so lightly, was it very hot and humid? If so, were the evenings considerably cooler? Thank a lot😀
We were there from the 16th September which is considered rainy season but we lucky managed to avoid it. It was lovely and sunny while we were there. It wasn't humid like Florida humid. I didn't notice too much drastic change in the evenings while I was there during that time. Thanks for watching!
We are really enjoying this vlog series already! Thank you for including tips on how to get around and how things work, if we ever make it to Japan this will help so much! The bamboo Forrest and all the the temples are just beautiful! - Kelly
Hi Claire. The temples were so beautiful. Some of them reminded me of scenes from a movie. The meal you ate looked very tasty. Simon's one liners were cracking me up. 😂 Not sure about the flavors on those KiiKat's. 😂😂 -Ali 🎀🏰💖
Haha glad you like his one liners as much as I do!! I'm glad I can capture a few of them! Aw yeah the temples are so beautiful, so serene. Thanks for watching!!
I saw this video of a guy who was in Japan and he said the best meals he got were at 7-11😂... loved all the scenery but that ice cream and green Kit Kat 🤮... can’t wait for next week🥰
How far up Fushima inari did you manage to go before there were steps and what time did you go? Would you say the bamboo forest is worth the trek? Were planning just 1 day in kyoto, commuting from osaka so just figuring out 3 key sights/areas we should visit. You've made a beautiful vlog Claire. Love it
Aw thank you for saying that about my vlog! Means a lot from you! There were steps pretty much straight away so sorry. There was the slope up from the big Torii gate and then when the main small torii gates start there are steps. Aw yeah I thought it was worth it, it was stunning. We weren't there long but there was something so serene about it. We originally were going to do 1 day Osaka and 1 day Kyoto but so glad we decided to spend more time in Kyoto. It was probably the highlight of the trip!
If I go to places like France, Belgium or maybe Luxembourg, they would have Minute Maid cans of fruit juice (mostly Orange, that or Apple, that would be the flavours I would normally have)
I definitely recommend getting the JR pass, we saved a lot. As I mentioned in the video before this one - if you only go to Kyoto and back from Tokyo you break even so everything extra you save money. Plus you buy it before you go so you don't have to spend your yen
Oh wow, again, such a beautiful vlog... I am falling more and more in love with Japan somehow... And like you both said: it's so well maintained and there's no rubbish, no graffiti. The Japanese have so much respect for everything and everyone and I love that about them. The rest of the world could learn a thing or two from them! Tea that works hahahahhaa :p That Bamboo forest though. Looks sooooo peaceful
Aww thanks for watching Annelies! Oh it really is so stunning there. You're right about the zen. I felt so small there...like the daily worries we have in life just disappeared. Haha yeah I'm not even a fan of the ruby kit kat haha, yeah those flavours weren't for me!
You’ve done too much in one day! There’s loads to do and see in Kyoto. Also, it’s better to get to the tori gates and bamboo forest early morning (like 0600) when no one is there. Golden temple is ALWAYS busy, but you can always get into a spot where no one is in the photo. There are loads more temples by the bamboo forest is as well. Having a phone is worth having, Google Maps works so well out there and tells you which line is which and what platform, etc.
Hi Jay, sorry that you think we did too much in one day. We had a great day and wouldn't have changed anything. Yeah we got some great pics at the Golden Temple thank you and we were lucky at the bamboo forest as you can see in the clips that it wasn't too busy. You're right about Google Maps, it helped us out a lot while we were out there! Thanks for watching

@@aclaireytale Thanks!
Yeah, I would definitely recommend Osaka if you get a chance, but there is so much to see and try wherever you go in Japan :)
Keep up your great work
Aww thank you so much I'm so glad you are enjoying the Japan vlogs - that means a lot! Hope you get to go one day, it's incredible!!
Brilliant vlog Claire, such beautiful temples , are you bowing ??? 😂😂😂 ......just put your hands in the water...peace and happiness .....and a stopped watch 😂😂😂 and that green kit-kat was probably a Cat treat lol xx
Hahaha glad you like the same kind of humour as us ;). Thank you so much for watching Aled!!
aclaireytale congratulations on 9k subs 👏👏👏x
Thank you so much for watching Bethany!
welcome to Japan! 😊
Thank you!!!
Love the sarcastic “yummmm” after Simon said the ice cream tastes like grass, that’s exactly what I was thinking 😂 Another great vlog Claire! You’ve made me want to go to Japan even more now! x
Hahaha glad you thought the same!! I definitely wouldn't have liked that!! Aw Japan is amazing, I hope you get to go one day!
Thank you for shering your video from Michelle in australia. Just beutiful I would never make all the steps.
Aww thank you for watching it!!
Hey its only 3 pm!! Oh Thats right your across the pond !!hahaha Love the video Claire . Absolutely amazing so many great sites thanks for sharing this spectacular day!
Aww haha thanks Mike for watching!!! Glad you enjoyed it
Loving it x
Aww thank you Kaz! So glad you are!
Wow what a beautiful place amazing vlog claire x
Aww thank you Paula! So beautiful there!
Great vlog. I wanna go back now. Japan is such an amazing country to visit. I did the red gates in the rain wearing flimsy sandals. Not smart haha
Aww it really is the most stunning. Haha not the best idea, I didn't realise how much of a hike it was going to be!! Worth it though!! Thanks for watching, glad it's bringing back some good memories
On the trains that aren’t covered by the JR pass do you by the tickets in advance or pay on the train like the buses? Thanks 😃
Yeah you pay the driver as you get off for the local trains I think we only did it a few times and then in Tokyo itself we got the Suica card which is a bit like the Oyster card. Thanks for watching!
Gorgeous!!!
Thank you for watching Stephanie!!! It really is gorgeous there!!!
@9:46 I got 4 of them. Haven't got Kyoto yet. Maybe one day I will head back there. I don't think they had these back in 2004.
Oh cool!! I'm so glad we collected them. Got them all home safe too! Yes haha good excuse to go back! Thank you for watching!
Absolutely loving these vlogs , amazing and stunning. Still giggling at the Kit Kat’s 😂😂. Xx
Hahaha glad it made you giggle, thank you so much for watching!
Pizza bao...yum
That chant almost sounded like a rap song.
I'm fully hope it will have sakura bloom in tokyo on 19 March 2020
Im going to osaka, Hiroshima, nagoya, Kyoto, tokyo, kamakura, yokohama and also nikko
Oh amazing!!!! It'll be here before you know it. Hope you have the best time there! It's such a stunning place
Lil Missy I went in October - it was HOT. In its 20s. Worth bringing a light jacket for night.
We were there from the 16th September which is considered rainy season but we lucky managed to avoid it. It was lovely and sunny while we were there. It wasn't humid like Florida humid. I didn't notice too much drastic change in the evenings while I was there during that time. Thanks for watching!
Just waiting for Isabelle to finish her tea before we settle down to watch.
Haha woo! Thank you!
We are really enjoying this vlog series already! Thank you for including tips on how to get around and how things work, if we ever make it to Japan this will help so much!
The bamboo Forrest and all the the temples are just beautiful! - Kelly
Aww thank you Kelly! I so hope you get to go one day it's absolutely stunning there! Glad you enjoyed the vlog!!
Haha really!!! aw thank you for watching!! Hope you will like next week's!
@@aclaireytale Thank you Claire. Bring on day 2 of kyoto then!!
Bless ya!!!
If I go to places like France, Belgium or maybe Luxembourg, they would have Minute Maid cans of fruit juice (mostly Orange, that or Apple, that would be the flavours I would normally have)
Yes haha I love all the different drinks they have!! Thanks for watching
Did you have to do any of the religious rituals before going to the fushimi Inari shrine?
No we didn't. Thank you for watching!
Great vlog Claire, looks beautiful :D x
Thank you Nathan! It really is beautiful!!!
What are your thoughts on the JR pass? I'm going to Japan for three weeks, do you recommend a JR pass?
I definitely recommend getting the JR pass, we saved a lot. As I mentioned in the video before this one - if you only go to Kyoto and back from Tokyo you break even so everything extra you save money. Plus you buy it before you go so you don't have to spend your yen
@@aclaireytale great....thank you for your response. Your videos a very informative.
You're so welcome! Thank you so much!
:) Bao buns are called Nikku man in japan
Ah amazing! Thank you for letting us know!
Tea that works hahahahhaa :p
That Bamboo forest though.
Did you get to keep the slippers from the temple?
No we didn't haha. Thank you for watching
First view woo! 🤣🥳
Haha yay that's dedication! Thanks for watching Helen!
Great video Clare but green kitkats is just wrong😂😂
Haha completely agree, I didn't even try them haha. Thank you so much for watching!!!
Let's visit the Temple of 1001 Kannon statues
Thank you for watching!

Thank you for letting me know!
2:35 観光地の京都で商品説明に英語表記が無いのに驚いた。
一番大事なアレルギー説明も日本語か・・
ミスタードーナツのマーケティングもっと頑張れ。
You're right that would have helped. Thank you for watching!
Great vlogs...just one thing you really shouldn’t eat and walk...it’s just the Japanese find it rude...
Great vlogs for trip planing
Thanks John. With the ice cream stand we noticed everyone was doing the same but you're right we shouldn't follow suit!
