I'm really glad that the despecialized editions exist. When I showed my mum the original Star Wars trilogy for the first time, these were the versions that I showed her instead of the special editions.
Just downloaded the trilogy, it is amazing the care that has gone to repair the " damage ". You guys are true digital crafstsmen (women) worthy of working at Skywalker Ranch. Thank you for restoring my childhood.
If a group of fans using all manner of sources can put together something like this, you have to imagine that a professional studio wouldn't have too much trouble restoring the original theatrical versions if they had access to original prints and negatives.
The amount of passion and sourcing of parts to restore this film to its original 1977 glory is amazing. It reminds me of car guys restoring a 69 Charger to factory stock. The level of detail and passion is just crazy. Way to go guys I really admire the effort and dedication to this project.
MASSIVE update to the "How to download" instructions! Provided links will now send you to a Google document authored by myself and reviewed by Harmy (whohoo!) that will tell you, step-by-step, EVERYTHING you need to know to enjoy this project. May the Force be with you all!

@@doko3000 from disney owning star wars? Still nothing on their side. My guess is they're waiting for special anniversary to bring out unedited versions.
@Főfasírozó Well why don't you just call us all geeks and nerds and be done with it? For technical reasons: as shown here, the color temp difference between the two versions is striking. It reminds me of movies that were first put out on dvd and then blue ray that looked like crap, and people screamed for them to be redone. 2nd thing is I can't think of any other movie that has been 'remastered' as much as star wars has. Some CG effects help, but a lot just outright clutter the screen. Then there's remaking key moments, the 'han shot first' debacle. I know my trying to explain this is pointless, for most people, they either care, or they don't.
Really amazing job on this! I never thought I'd be interested in getting this, but it's just too good to pass up. Thank you for all your time and & dedication and keeping this classic on our minds. I find the numerous commentaries languages, and isolated audio score more than worth getting this for.
I just discovered this yesterday. I'm speechless. Just speechless. The level of work here is brilliant. All I can do is to say thank you. Yeah. Still speechless!
This is absolutely incredible, completely blown away by this. I take my hat off to everyone involved and more than anything I want to purchase these versions on DVD (I don't have blu ray). You have earned my money if this is in any way possible.
Harmy's Despecialized project is strictly non-monetary. As a "fan edit" of copyrighted material, it's protected under free use law but only for free distribution to legal owners of the source material (i.e., the official Star Wars Blu-ray Disks). Thanks for your support, nonetheless!
Wow. What incredible painstaking work was done to restore the original version of the film in HD for posterity. Thank you Harmy, et. al. for your contributions, the world is in your debt!
I absolutely enjoyed that last number they did. I also enjoyed last evenings program too. Thank you for letting us listen and watch with the audience. God Bless you all.
I hadn't heard of this until recently and immediately acquired the latest versions... thank you for restoring my childhood with this fantastic and much appreciated effort, this is probably the greatest thing I've seen in decades. EXCELLENT work on this!
Incredible. The fact that the unaltered versions are being Digitally Graded is amazing in itself, and as expected a lot of hard work to get the footage from the original, but the fact that fans are behind it is something really special, and a true testament to how dedicated fans really are. George may not like the idea of going back to original form because of the continuity, but most fans are only interested in the original trilogy anyway. Seeing this has made me believe that the trilogy was well treated with these peoples capable hands and we thank you. Now if only we could make it official...
First time I saw episode IV, was back in 1983. Watching these Despecialized versions these days is like watching something awesome, all over again. How many times I have seen the original trilogy? I does not matter, because if there is an Oscar for some cultural achievement, Harmy should get it!
I just learned about this from TWiT. Fantastic effort! My personal "top offence" by Lucas was replacing Boba Fett's voice, turning him into the Geico lizard.
watching star wars as a kid, I didn't even realize how many changes and edits had been added until I read about it! So thank you Harmy and team for restoring the original! It's so annoying that before your restoration it was just basically impossible to watch the original!
Czech subtitles are now available (translation compliments of Harmy) - Use RUclips's "cc" button to access subtitles in English, Czech, French, German, Polish, or Spanish!
***** They've already done preliminary versions of Empire and Jedi, though they are not quite as far along as the Star Wars despecialization, which has been going on for a lot longer.
Wow, I'm just blown away by the amount of work of this edition and the dedication you guys have to Star Wars. If only George Lucas cared as much. Can't wait to see the finished product!
I love this video so much. It speaks to the nerd in me that a bunch of Star Wars fans with some technical know-how would accomplish a feat like this powered by nothing but a desire to preserve the original versions of these films. Remarkable
The task and the attention to detail in undertaking this project is remarkable! I was clapping and on the verge of tears until about... 6:17 In it, I see that there is an actual attempt to have the films completely restored without any corrections. I am wondering if anyone has a middle ground to what some good of the special editions did, like extending that hallway. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see Jabba, I want that cantina full of the original characters, and I don't want to see all that cgi fluff of the space port, but fix the lightsabers so they're on par in quality next to the later movies and the prequel trilogy. That I'd be okay with. Still, I respect the extremes that fans have gone to have this masterpiece restored while keeping it's original flaws. If George hadn't been so obsessed about practically remaking the film in cgi, maybe we would've got a more definitive version of the movies instead of all the fantastic fan edits and the clunky and equally flawed for different reasons BluRay release.
thank you for such an amazing job!! I can't believe I finally get to see the Star Wars movies I remember growing up with and loving. on behalf of all the Star Wars fans who have seen the despecialized versions, all the hard work and effort that has been put into this project is greatly appreciated! thank you so much!!! It's great!!
Wow. I got those as a xmas gift and they are absolutely incredible. Never thought so much work went into it tho. Many thanks the dedicated people who worked on this.
The extended version of this work-in-progress documentary about the history and sources of Harmy's Despecialized Edition was unfortunately removed from Harmy's own RUclips channel by a copyright claim from FOX. Ridiculous; this documentary is undoubtedly fair use for the purpose of commentary and criticism, but we don't want Harmy to have to deal with that nonsense. Thus, I've uploaded the longer version of this video to my own channel with Harmy's permission, and will do everything I can to ensure it stays online. Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/mGrXO2RDzLg/видео.html
thank you, Harmy, for your effort and dedication. I was watching the movie(the STAR WARS) today and it felt like watching it for the first time...I'm seeing it with different eyes, noticing things I haven't noticed before. it is as if those altered versions changes almost distract you from paying attention to the meaningful aspect of the movie and the dialogue.
This is all such masterful work, but if Lucas bloody RELEASED THE GODDAMN UNEDITED FILMS HIMSELF IT WOULDN'T BE NECESSARY Hopefully Disney is getting on it. I haven't heard anything but it seems kind of like something they'd do, if only to appease die-hard fans before they release Episode VII.
Andy McAwesome I really don't think an official release of the OT would even come close to being this carefully handled. I mean, even the timing of the subtitles in the Greedo scene?! This is disgustingly amazing stuff. Dedication out of love, nothing less.
maniakaz I think that Disney took Lucasfilm as a whole, incluiding everything in it, even the original Star Wars trilogy and the Indiana Jones Trilogy.
Rowdy Romero According to Wikipedia which we know is always right :) - 20th Century Fox still retains the distribution rights to the first two Star Wars trilogies, owning permanent rights for the original film Episode IV: A New Hope, while holding the rights to Episodes I-III, V, and VI until May 2020
Well, that's even better, because 20th Century Fox would try to get the most from those rights and release more editions of the original trilogy to get more money from the fans. Let's hope that one of those editions will be the original untouched edition (with a probable release date close to 2020). Anyway, I have the original untouched trilogy in vhs, the special edition in vhs and dvd and the latest bluray editions. I got this despecialized edition and admired it end to end. Is an impecable work, far superior than the blu-ray edition.
Thank you very much! I really aprreciate how much you did to restore a film that is too important to many people like us. Thanks to Harmy and the people that made possible this Despecialized Edition,
A number of updates have been made to this video's description to provide new helpful links, download instructions, and information. Thanks for your continued interested in Harmy's Star Wars restoration project! Also, Harmy has released a workprint of RTJ v2.0! Visit his channel (link in description) for more information!
I worked at Reliance MediaWorks back in early 2012 when their cleanup team was doing a cleanup of scans of the original trilogy pre-special edition. Lucas had every intention on releasing a cleaned up Blu-Ray version of the original trilogy as it had been released on film, but once Disney bought Lucasfilms, it was all shelved. So there is a remastered version of Episode IV out there somewhere. They made a lot of progress on Episode V and even touched Episode VI, but it seems the house of mouse has no plans on releasing an original HD version of these movies any time soon.
@@juvetravels i finally got all parts downloaded early this morning of new hope... it's amazing... not perfect, cuz it wasn't filmed perfect, but it's the movie we should have had

wow guys! just wow! was just watching the special edition with friends the other day and eveyrone were put-off by it, But now we have something to watch! Thanks!!!
eXxaric that's awesome! I just read the wiki page about it: - Removal of "Yippee" and "Oops" from Anakin's dialogue - Re-editing of nearly all scenes featuring Jar Jar Binks - Trimming scenes involving politics ... and more thank you!
THANK YOU Harmy, Dark Jedi, You_Too, Adywan, Team Negative, Puggo. You guys have totally brought it back to the fans!!! I don't miss my dvds and the magenta tint.
Great stuff. One of the most glaring instances that really chapped my hide was changing the victory song at the end of Return of the Jedi. Can't wait to watch this - much appreciated!
Yes exactly, I feel that was the greatest sin of all, to change music. The original Ewok celebration music is something that I remember and is highly nostalgic, you cant just go an change that.
WHY THE HELL DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO DIFFICULT TO DOWNLOAD THIS CRAP. REALLY GOING ON MYSPLEEN FORUMS, CREATING ACCOUNTS, AND PRAY THAT U GET AN INVITE???? You guys criticize and criticize George Lucas for what he's done when in reality I'd rather just watch my blu-ray copy when I have to go through all this trouble downloading this!! George Lucas wouldn't have my sign up to some stupid ass forum to watch one of his movies I'll tell you that. Was putting it on piratebay really that hard??!!!!
MannyMMA I understand your frustration. I felt the same way when I first discovered this project. However, I now know that the creators of this project have purposely chosen NOT to release the Despecialized Edition through something like ThePirateBay to curb allegations of promoting piracy, which could threaten to shut down the whole project before its completion. As stated in the description of this video, send me an email if you're having trouble getting a copy of Harmy's Despecialized Edition. I'm here to help!
I highly praise all the hard efforts and time put into making this Despecialised version. A high def GOUT It was a labor of love. Thank you very much! May G-od bless you.
Thank you so much for doing this! It is so important to preserve and not lose the history and the original version of this film. I have the original movies on VHS tapes and I wish I could record them onto DVDs or digital. I hope the historic film society have the original, unedited version on film.
Thanks for these Despecialized editions, Harmy & co. I was six years old when I saw A New Hope in the theatre in 1977 and I'm so glad I finally can see all three again the way they originally were. Thank you thank you thank you for all your hard work doing what George refused to do for all of us!
Inspired! God bless you Harmy! I want to see this again as I did when I was a kid, though in truth, I never saw the complete film edition as I first watched it a 4 year old in 87, so I saw an altered version even then on VHS.
Why isn't there a version that leaves the good changes in like the death star battle and the bad changes out like the magenta colors and greedo shooting first. I think the special editions did make certain things look better. (like the one i mentioned, the death star battle) Also, changes like 5:33 (escape pod color) and 4:00 (the speeder shade) and 9:16 (the people in the hall) 9:22 (the dewback) were unnecesary to change back. All of those look better than the original one. I'm a BIG Star Wars fan, but i can see that some things did get better.
Be that as it may, the goal of the Despecialized Edition is to provide a high-quality recreation and restoration of the original Star Wars Trilogy, as it was shown to people in the theaters at the time of release.
gallactorme And more. The new cantina scene is amazing, and so is the new trench run, even if that Tie fighter fly-by is a bit wonky looking. I'm also so glad Adywan kept the Biggs scene before the trench run. It's one of the only SE things I like.
1 Million views. Well, that's something. I don't have anything new to share here, but I have been working with Harmy and various volunteers to provide subtitles to the extended version of this documentary (ruclips.net/video/QXifjbxZDAM/видео.html) and translations of the "how to download" guide I wrote (goo.gl/1WGHBA). I hope you all are having Happy Holidays and are enjoying the renewed interested in Star Wars that Episode VII has brought with its release. May the Force be with you all!

Thank you for restoring my childhood.
where did you download it?
You can buy it on bluray on Ebay.
@Főfasírozó why?
One can never be more proud to say, "I have got the GOUT."
To all of you amazing people that have given the Star Wars trilogy back to me... THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES.
MASSIVE update to the "How to download" instructions! Provided links will now send you to a Google document authored by myself and reviewed by Harmy (whohoo!) that will tell you, step-by-step, EVERYTHING you need to know to enjoy this project.

How Do I Download Star Wars “Flunk" 97 Special Edition
RUclips: Welcome to 2019 here is a video from 2013 hope you enjoy.
I did enjoy it though
Wow, if you hadn't said it I wouldn't have noticed. That's 6 years ago. I wonder if there's been any improvements.
@@doko3000 from disney owning star wars? Still nothing on their side. My guess is they're waiting for special anniversary to bring out unedited versions.
In all fairness the video has 1.5 million views and is interesting as you point out.
@Főfasírozó don't really understand if you are being mad or want to make some sort of pun
And no doubt I'm most interested in all the cleanups color corrections & reedits to bringing the past version back to the present.:)
Many Bothans died to bring us this information.
Naprostá bomba práce! Díky fíky za tu mravenčí práci vy filmový archeologové :)
I think, over the years, I've purchased 5-6 versions (in various formats) of these films. I don't feel one fucking bit guilty about downloading this.
Wow. What incredible painstaking work was done to restore the original version of the film in HD for posterity. Thank you Harmy, et. al. for your contributions, the world is in your debt!
all these heroes do very important work
I absolutely enjoyed that last number they did. I also enjoyed last evenings program too. Thank you for letting us listen and watch with the audience.
God Bless you all.
"They're erasing my masterpiece!" - Lucas (on the de-specialized editions)
Did he really say that?
@@lander77477 haha no.
I hadn't heard of this until recently and immediately acquired the latest versions... thank you for restoring my childhood with this fantastic and much appreciated effort, this is probably the greatest thing I've seen in decades. EXCELLENT work on this!
Amazing. Just watched Star Wars Despecialized, incredible work. Thanks!
This is amazing!
por que lonrot comento hace 5 años de video de hace 7 años de como descargar star wars en su version original
jjaja
Great! Thanks :)
THANKS!!!!!
***** do they plan to do Empire/Jedi despecialized versions?
***** Version 1.0 of both are already done! However, highly improved versions (v2.0+) are in the making as we speak (well, as we type).
***** They've already done preliminary versions of Empire and Jedi, though they are not quite as far along as the Star Wars despecialization, which has been going on for a lot longer.
Wow. The amount of time and energy and resources put in by people to make this a reality is staggering. I truly appreciate it.
Wow, I'm just blown away by the amount of work of this edition and the dedication you guys have to Star Wars. If only George Lucas cared as much.
Can't wait to see the finished product!
You are the most unbelievable fans i've ever seen in my life. And the work done is far better than anything equivalent.
That's an unbelievable amount of work, and it's greatly appreciated.
This is an Epic project! I'm so glad a dedicated team of people has come together to recover and preserve the original star wars.
I like a little grain and scratches. It feels like the movie theater when I was a kid seeing Star Wars .
So much work and soul has gone into this remastering, huge respect
All I can say is thank you.
thank you for such an amazing job!! I can't believe I finally get to see the Star Wars movies I remember growing up with and loving. on behalf of all the Star Wars fans who have seen the despecialized versions, all the hard work and effort that has been put into this project is greatly appreciated! thank you so much!!! It's great!!
This is just amazing. I will watch this again as soon as I find the time. Wow.
This is an AMAZING technological marvel to me! WELL DONE, folks in the project! I am simply in AWE at your abilities!
We need a special edition of the despecialized edition.
The respecialized edition?
Just watch it on Disney Plus if you like the changes.
Wow. I got those as a xmas gift and they are absolutely incredible. Never thought so much work went into it tho. Many thanks the dedicated people who worked on this.
everyone that helped. thank you so much
You've restored the childhood of millions. Thank you.
Enjoy!

thank you, Harmy, for your effort and dedication. I was watching the movie(the STAR WARS) today and it felt like watching it for the first time...I'm seeing it with different eyes, noticing things I haven't noticed before. it is as if those altered versions changes almost distract you from paying attention to the meaningful aspect of the movie and the dialogue.
This is all such masterful work, but if Lucas bloody RELEASED THE GODDAMN UNEDITED FILMS HIMSELF IT WOULDN'T BE NECESSARY
Hopefully Disney is getting on it. I haven't heard anything but it seems kind of like something they'd do, if only to appease die-hard fans before they release Episode VII.
Last I heard, Disney didn't get the rights for the first 3 films..
Thanks to Harmy and the people that made possible this Despecialized Edition,
This guy is a hero
Wow...just wow.
So much work and passion to restore this great movie.

Also, Harmy has released a workprint of RTJ v2.0! Visit his channel (link in description) for more information!
Absolutely incredible work done here by some dedicated fans. You have truly done this movie a great deal of justice.
Juve Travels I believe you
they ought to... people would pay to see a "restored, un-edited re-release" of the original 3 in theaters as-it-was-released-originally
@@narmale They would make so much money if they did.
@@juvetravels i finally got all parts downloaded early this morning of new hope... it's amazing... not perfect, cuz it wasn't filmed perfect, but it's the movie we should have had
Unreal the amount of care and love poured into this. Thank you to all involved!!

Thanks for doing this! I remember watching Star Wars in 1977 and that was the reason I purchased the DVD (you called the GOUT). I'm happy that there are people out there who want to see the original (from 77) in a higher quality.
Whenever you see a comment on youtube that says (edited) you are looking at a special edition version of that comment :P
The amount of effort into this project is absolutely stunning.
I will definitely be downloading this and burning it onto a dvd when I have the time.
Nice work, the real star wars !!
wow guys! just wow!
was just watching the special edition with friends the other day and eveyrone were put-off by it,
But now we have something to watch!
Thanks!!!
I love it. However at 4:07 the blueray TIE scene looks a fair bit better. Especially with what you can see behind him through his reverse view.
This almost brings me to tears. I love all of you involved in the making of this. THANK YOU FOR EVER AND EVER!
I hope someday someone will find a way to remove jar jar binks from the new trilogy.
Devran Uenal, you've only got a problem with *Jar-Jar Binks*?
Keldor D'Antrell to be honest i enjoyed part 1-3 even though they were like total different movies compared to 4-6. but jar jar fucked up everything.
7-9 will be totally different movies as well. They are meant to have different takes set in the same SW galaxy far far away.
Devran Uenal watch the "star wars 1-3 phantom edit " its the version with the least jar jar ever.
eXxaric
that's awesome! I just read the wiki page about it:
- Removal of "Yippee" and "Oops" from Anakin's dialogue
- Re-editing of nearly all scenes featuring Jar Jar Binks
- Trimming scenes involving politics
... and more
thank you!
THANK YOU Harmy, Dark Jedi, You_Too, Adywan, Team Negative, Puggo. You guys have totally brought it back to the fans!!! I don't miss my dvds and the magenta tint.
Watching Han properly shoot Greedo was the best part of my day.
You guys and all people involved deserve a medal.
I heavily sympathize with fans on matter of the Original Unaltered Trilogy. I would want to buy the unaltered versions on Blu-Ray myself.
I love that so many people worked together to accomplish this. Way to go team !
Impressive. Most impressive.
Looking to download the films?

Much appreciated. Kudos to you my friend, please understand my frustration was on Harmy and not on you.

I highly praise all the hard efforts and time put into making this Despecialised version. A high def GOUT It was a labor of love. Thank you very much! May G-od bless you.
Eat it George....perfect work.
Thank you so much for doing this! It is so important to preserve and not lose the history and the original version of this film. I have the original movies on VHS tapes and I wish I could record them onto DVDs or digital. I hope the historic film society have the original, unedited version on film.
The source is strong with this one...
Thanks for these Despecialized editions, Harmy & co. I was six years old when I saw A New Hope in the theatre in 1977 and I'm so glad I finally can see all three again the way they originally were. Thank you thank you thank you for all your hard work doing what George refused to do for all of us!
Quite simply, amazing! Too bad you have to go through virus hell and back to actually watch it!
Go on ebay, there are several sellers selling the despecialized edition blu rays with nice labels and cases. Thats what I did.
Star Wars Revisited.
yep, look for Star Wars: Revisited by Adywan. It is essentially the best of both the original version and the special editions.
gallactorme And more. The new cantina scene is amazing, and so is the new trench run, even if that Tie fighter fly-by is a bit wonky looking. I'm also so glad Adywan kept the Biggs scene before the trench run. It's one of the only SE things I like.
a choice between Despecialized & Revisited I would choose Despecialized to watch but I can't wait for Adywans Empire Revisited
Watched this 3 times and am still blown away with the final project

I haven't been a huge Star Wars fan since i was a teenager but this is great to see. Great technical skills by all involved.

Harmy I can't overstate how awesome a task and achievment you (and the other OT peeps) have completed. The Force will be with you always!
