Nice video! Remember being a little boy with family digging in the sand not on the boundary of the surf but a little more inland in the wet sand catching these "sand crabs" as we called them back in the day. We dug holes in the sand with our hands to find them and let them wiggle in our hands before releasing them back into the sand.

Very good tasting little critters. What I do is I take a bottle of vinegar with me to the beach and a small 1 gallon bucket as I catch them and rinse out the sand I but them in vinegar. The vinegar will filter out the sand and such. When I get home I rinse them again then ice bath for one hour. I strain all the water out then I fry them. Once their done I put them in a bowl with olive oil and season them to my liking. Serve them with some white rice and fresh caught fish from that day and you have a full meal. Keep it up.

Great video! I grew up vacationing in the panhandle of Florida, Destin. NO sandfleas, ghost crabs or small fish were safe! :P Add some sand castles and army men and you had enough to keep us busy the entire day! I also remember going to the pier and catching bonitas. Love your stuff, sir!

Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern did an episode year ago in Thailand & they ate “sea cicadas” which look exactly like the mole crabs on the east coast. I believe they soaked them in water with cream of tarter to remove the sand, tossed them in cornstarch, and then fried them. Looking for sand fleas in the Outer Banks of North Carolina is something I’ve done since I was a child.

You need to deep fry them crispy like they do in thailand

Everytime I go over to California I dig up sand fleas and I've seen thousands and thousands. And the biggest one I've ever seen was a bit bigger than a quarter. Amazing.

Thanks for showing us that unique species of mole crab 🦀 I found one of those a couple years ago and didn’t know what it was! I feel pretty special now that I know it’s a one in 1 million type of species to find! Thanks Rob Awesome video👍

That sand flee has a great taste if you only just grill it. In our country we just line them up in a tiny bamboo BBQ stick and grill it.. all you have to need is your own sauce. . Try the bigger sand flees on it. Try 4 or 5 sandflees. You're gonna love it. 👍👍👍

Many times, yes it's good. Sometimes, it's like this. I guess people have two faces more these days, or maybe they always have. I would guess that adults might speak differently when they have children with them, or are around them. I like Robert very much. I think I was referring to comments, more, so than the video, but it's been awhile and I'm not going to watch it again right now.

Anyone else watch that big sand flea he tossed back take off when comparing the sizes of the big and small ones? 😂
Also I saw Bluegabe’s video of them eating them and said they taste similar to some other crab. I’d give it a shot for sure!

7:16 btw "boatload" is incorrect, the correct expression is "Buttload" which is an actual unit of measurement dating back to the 14th century. A Butt is a specific barrel size used for wine aging and storing.

Boil for 5min with white distilled vinegar. Pan fry for 5min. If your going to season make sure there is no salt added
