Tell you what, Mike is for sure the guy to talk about concerning anything Porsche. This GT3 cup car is a work of art. Like he says, attention to detail, that's a Porsche thing, and also, listening to customers. Fantastic racecar this one 👍🏻 Very good video, thank you
amazing video! please do another one when 992 GT3 road car is available - want to see the front suspension geometry difference between cup vs. road car!
Thanks Vu! I'm headed to Sebring in a couple days to watch these new cars in action. It'll be great to see all this technology put to work. Great video as usual!
Vu an Mike thanks for the tour, It is really fascinating to see ideas used in some club race member now in the factory cars an the amazing improvements they have made.
Has the rear quarter panel and sills a sort of removable protection from the frequent impact "side by side" during race? Or have you to repair the metal body after every race?
@@meschio From Mike Levitas: "You can section the quarter panel to save time on the 991. It's structural, so we weld and bond the entire quarter. On the 992, the quarter panel does not seem to carry any load, so sectioning seems appropriate and should not compromise performance."
The explanation is not as ingenious as some might think,it’s because of all the extra silver paint they had in the parts bin from painting Macans,Panameras and Cayennes. 😅 Thanks for the video! 👍
White is also a historical color of German racing cars. White and silver both are the official racing colors. But white is more older and the original.
@@jannadrielcervo7753 - perhaps, but silver is what they were running in 1955 in Le Mans when they quit racing after the accident. That’s old enough for most people (and evidently for Mercedes itself).
@@CARPB147 Yeah I know. But if you look at much older grand prix cars of the 1910's, and 1920's, you can see some of the Mercedes-Benz are painted white. I'm talking about the pre-Formula One grand prix event, specifically the European Grand Prix Championship, which was shamefully renamed after the war as the Nazi Grand Prix, because of the 1938 and 1939 season are largely Nazi propaganda controlled race.
In the press release, motorsports.porsche.com/usa/en/article/2020/12/02/911-gt3-cup-2021, Porsche says: The purpose of Dream Spirit is also reflected in the design. For the first time the new race car is being delivered in GT Silver Metallic. A color which on the one hand emphasises the sportiness and on the other hand has historical significance in motorsport.
With the GTLM class going away thus no longer having a demand for the RSR, much of the tech from that car should trickle down into the GTD and GT Cup cars.
Silver interior is a lot better than white, white get dirty as hell after a few years, on silver you won't notice. I'm glad they are finally silver inside and it's also nice on the outside :)
Germany’s racing color is white. Mercedes went to silver because they had to sand the white paint to lose weight because the white paint was heavy because of the lead pigment. So the car went silver the color of the bare metal

Race car center locks are designed for impact gun so they are much more convenient than street car center locks. The race car center locks look beat up after some usage as a result, which is normal. If I had the choice I'd take convenience over aesthetics on the street cars. :)

Wow - this video deserves way more views. This is the most in-depth review I've seen and makes you really appreciate the 992.
Thank you for the kind words. Please share this video with those who might appreciate it!
I can't wait for the 992 GT3 touring

awesome tour of the new Cup Car ~ up close !!!
Glad you liked it!!
Thanks for uploading this. There are not a lot of in-depth videos for the cup cars.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! Some nice improvements. I think we can see some hints (hopefully) of what is due to come in the new 992 GT3 RS.
ABS is a nice addition! No need to apologize for its presence, there are plenty of other driver aids this car does not have.
True. Even the GT1 Porsche's of the 90s had it.
Really appreciate the details you pulled into this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
very good technical info. thank you
Nice video about the 992 Cup car. Agree with Chris (below). Ditto!! Can wait to see these cars in person. Thanks to you I'll have a better grasp. :)
Has the rear quarter panel and sills a sort of removable protection from the frequent impact "side by side" during race? Or have you to repair the metal body after every race?
The rear quarter and sill are part of the tub, same as in previous gen Cup cars. To replace them will require bodyshop work.

Silver maybe to signify the technical advance? It’s quite a leap, even just the rear wing.
Our sources indicate that it was a project based decision. Perhaps you're right.

Could be, lol
Does that make sense considering that 911s are built in Zuffenhausens and Macan/Panamera is built in Leipzig.
OMG.. WOW Vu.. that made my day!! Amazing insight into these machines.. thank you!!👍😎👍
And Best of Luck to Mike!!👍👍

Amazing how small the front water radiator and its exit cut out is. Are the cooler in front of the front wheels for oil?
Very informative. Thank you!

Silver is the color of German cars like red was Italy, green for UK, etc. I think it may have been a Formula 1 thing.

To clarify, does the street car have the same body/chassis setup of the honeycomb under body?
