    I think Mondstadt is just supposed to be a compound representation of German, Nordic and Anglo people. Similar to how Sumeru has Middle Eastern, North African and (South) Asian representations.

      Yeah, it is a mix of certain elements of the modern interpretations of fairy tale knights, like from the Matters of Britain, France and Rome. The entire Order is essentially build around the tropes of the Knight errant. Meanwhile, Fountaine is essentially "(European) Muscials - The Country".

    • @leonardoalvarenga7572
      @leonardoalvarenga7572 3 месяца назад +2

      I think Mondstadt is more specifically meant to be the Holy Roman Empire rather than just Germany. It then explains the few nods to French, Italian and even Roman iconography and references here and there even though German is predominant.

    • @TheDocAstaroth
      @TheDocAstaroth 3 месяца назад +1

      @@leonardoalvarenga7572 Actually, I change my opinion. Mondstadt is shoujo manga Europe, if I think about it. The leader of the knight order is called Jeanne, like "Jeanne d'Arc". With the adaption of European history in manga around 1950s-70s, the female knight became an incredible influential Archetype in shoujo manga (see "Princess knight" or "Lady Oscar"), particaluary because of the popularity of French and Italian art, which was filtered by nationalist movements to "modernize" their history to make it more popular. That is why Jeanne d'Arc was portrait with armour around the 19th century and became essential a prototype for the iconography of the "Female Knight" in art.

    • @samirSch

      @@loblyamii6166 Coincidence, definitely. "Sumeru" name is clearly based on Sumer, the first civilization in Mesopotamia, in which is now mostly Iraq, although the prevalence of arab is mostly in names whereas the archtecture and culture are mostly "persian" (iranian) and the cuisine and some spiritual elements you find scattered (like Aranara's cycle of ressurection) are hindi. And ofc the Desert is mostly egyptian/north Africa influenced.

    the whole premise of Mondstadt is more based on old Germany when it was still 140-ish Kingdoms and not a nation back then a lot of german,french and italian combinations happened so that explains why there are so many different nationalities in Mondstadt like for an example we all know or at least should that Jean is loosly based on Jeanne D'Arc who is called Johanna von Orleans in german so technically speaking Jean just uses the french version of the german name Johanna, that happened a lot back in the days another great example is King Charlmagne in french who was called Karl der Große in german
    Obviously back then in the northern part a lot of people were more nordic as well which explains the norse names

    So basically what I got from this is that even though Mondstat as a region is supposedly based on Germany, playable characters from this region don't have German names at all except for Fischl, and Albedo/Diona who have a title/surname in German. But really the only character that has any German terms related to them at all is Fischl. I feel like Mondstat as a region has exceptionally little relation to Germany, compared to the rest of the regions who are heavily influenced by their real world counterparts in not just the name of their playable characters but their architecture, landscapes, flora, fauna and names of places and NPCs. Do you as a German see any references to Germany in Mondstat as a region? Besides the names of the festivals, are they actually related to real world German festivals? What about the architecture and lore of the city, the landscapes of the region, etc?

    • @louminarytv
      @louminarytv  Год назад +36

      That's a good question! I must admit I'm not the most knowledgable about the details of German architecture etc., but I do believe they took inspiration not only from Germany, but Scandinavia, Holland and other countries as well (especially with the old Norse names etc.). We do have the Goth Grand Hotel which is supposed to be the Goethe Grand Hotel - so we have that connection there. The windmills make me think of Holland more than Germany if I'm honest - that's something a lof us commonly associate with Holland, but I can see how the "drinking culture", albeit not the most important part, could be taken from Germany lol. Houses and decorations also look similar to what you can still find in some older villages in some parts of Germany, or in those with old town centres. Having a big church overseeing the city is also not necessarily a German thing only... I wish I could tell you more, maybe once I've had some time to think about it :) Perhaps someone with deeper knowledge on architecture can chime in XD

    • @Cherryxarts
      @Cherryxarts Год назад +42

      architecture definitely, Mondstadt looks a lot like a more old town close to me. And even with the fact that most characters don't have fully German names I think its pretty fitting, I know very few Germans who have actual German names, we've kinda become a mash of different cultures and all sorts of people and that really fits the city of freedom imo, so I guess thats where I personally see another coalition. (Also I'm glad they don't have actual German names because having characters named Ingeborg, Otto or Hanz Peter would be really fucking tragic 💀)

      @@louminarytvlittle late on this but this is indeed true, the windmills we have here in the Netherlands, and i feel like a few more things are inspired from the Netherlands/Dutch, i’ll make a list :)
      Amber’s name is common here pronounced with the same A y’all have in Germany
      The windmills of course
      I feel like the riverdelta above Dadaupa Gorge is kinda representing the delta that we have at Rotterdam
      We have alot of cities where there is indeed a big church in the middle of it with the colored glass
      Calla lily’s look somewhat like blooming tulips which we are known for
      Ps: i know some scandinavian language and Dvalin comes from there too meaning hibernation which kinda makes sense since he woke up from his long period of being controlled.

      I feel like I'd want to comment on how much it relates to me:
      I grew up in a hilly wine area of south-west germany, and especially the winery fits it so well and hits right at home. The entire aesthetic of Mondstadt itself fits many older towns, windmills also used to really cover the landscape down here.
      my grandmothers name was Mona, so.... you know :)
      Lisa is probably the most common female name I have ever encountered here as well in my generation, where as Dirk and Barbara are very very common for people a decade or 2 older than myself.
      I also wanna mention that Rheintöchter, Rhine-daughters ( Rhinnedottir?) are a thing and actually refer to a women-only, presumably even witchcraft related, social circle in the (surprise, surprise) Rhine Area, so I also like to think that they somehow came across that while researching.
      Also, the south west used to be a gigantic trading hub, where the merchant routes from south to north, and east to west collided, meaning it had people from all over the world, thousand years ago already. French, italian, nordic, slavic names and heritages are very very common here.

    Yeah, Sucrose... I started to play because of her. Or, rather, because of her name in Russian. As in German, her name was translated directly, and became Сахароза. That cracks me right up, so I wanted her as my first character, and surprisingly, I got her C1 from the first 10-pull. So it was decided that I will be playing this game, and I never regretted it.
