I’ve just started getting a note out of my bagpipes, and this was just SO helpful. So far I’m only able to do the first exercise, but I’m slowly chipping away at it. Thanks Matt!
Nice Video and a good Idea will try it tomorrow and will suggest my band try it, when we're back from our Christmas break. Also nice to see my name in the list Cheers.
Wish I'd had this exercise a year ago. I think I'll work through it anyway to see if it improves maybe some bad habit I've created in the muscle memory. Thx Matt.
Have wanted to play GHP for years. A friend in England gifted me a set of R. G. Hardies that are about 70 years old, but in good shape. Do you set up pipes? If so, when I get ready I'd like to contact you. But, before then, I want to use your online lessons and then get private lessons. Which practice chanter should I get? Do you have a preference or recommendation?
Apologies for the delay, somehow I'm only seeing this comment now. For practice chanters, I very much like Gibson’s instruments www.gibsonbagpipesllc.com/shop?ref=njg0mtu Their Long Poly is probably the best bang for the buck, but my favorite is their Cocobolo practice chanters
Many modern melodies don't fit in he limited note range of the highland pipes, and the few that do fit aren't in the public domain, so I can't distribute music to them...
Hi Matt, I was really interested in running Hain bagpipes. I looked up online and I saying the website. I did send him an email and I also tried to call him however I’m not getting any response is he still in business? Let me know thanks
Matt thanks for this video its Perfect timing I just got my first set of pipes a month ago and I'm definitely struggling with the blow squeez play coordination. I did take your suggestion and bought a football to help build my arm squeeze strength while using my practice chanter. THANK YOU

I grew up playing brass instruments. When I started on pipes, one of the hardest things I had to learn was separating my blowing from my playing.
Very helpful
Glad it helped!
Great help, I have a tendency to blow and forget to squeeze much, particularly on the top hand where squeezing and playing those notes!

Glad to hear that!
@@MattWillisBagpiper Many people abandon the bagpipes because they do not understand how it works, and your videos are helping those beginners a lot.
😮 thanks a lot !
Welcome!
Great video, Matt. Thank you! I’m in transition from PC to full set and this is the video I needed. What practice chanter do you have by the way?
That's a 2001 MacLellan cocobolo long chanter
Great instruction as usual Matt. I was wondering what software you use for making your staff pdf scores?
