Good job. Thanks for sharing your work. I learn things from you. The car’s voice is funny how it changes the tone of voice depending on how serious the condition is.
Ivan of Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics would be proud of your NPR (no parts required) repair. Most ABS problems are usually the sensors or the rings. Always pays to try the simple (and free) stuff first.
You should test the sensors using the Sun. It should be able to display the output on the scope. You'll be able to see if it's a proper signal, not just some signal.
Tracking faults down without any obd access is a pain. I’ve got an errant abs warning light that refuses to stay on. If I go above 80mph the abs light comes on but if I plug a scanner in there’s no fault codes. Like you I reckon it’s a wheel sensor losing data when at speed. But to access the sensors the discs have to come off, which means repacking the hub bearings. Still, it’s only been there for the last four years , I’ll get around to it soon 😂
Owned a 1984 Renault 25 GTX which was a fuel injected 2.2 4 cylinder. Quite a high spec with talking dash etc but no ABS. The Renault 20TS I'd had before was the 2.0 litre from 1978 and that was the first car I'd owned that had ventilated front discs and just like yours had the single cylinder sliding caliper. I remember it well as one side had seized. Loved the looks of the 25 but the 20 felt heavier and very comfortable but rusted out pretty quickly. At least they were nice to work on with the inline engine layout.
I had low speed ABS rattle on my Primera. I never got to the bottom of it but a possibility was the the sensor fixing bracket got rusty and the rust build up moved the sensor away from the cog wheel enough to stop it working. Your cog with the groove in it possibly caused by a stone which got between the cog and the sensor. Damage to the surface of the sensor might also have effected the signal even though it appeared to be OK.
I had an intermittent fault with the ABS on my SAAB. It turned out there was a crack in one of the reluctor rings which caused it to move occasionally. New ring fixed the problem.
Sounds like the standard IT fix, unplug it and plug it back in again... :P (Though a good spray of contact cleaner wouldn't go amiss, connections that old in conditions that are less than ideal for electronics to be located tend to benefit from a bit of deoxit in the socket, or similar products of course!)
As an experiment I just tried asking an AI (Perplexity) to list all the possible voice messages in a Renault 25 in English along with the French and it seemed to do a good job and may be worth doing and printing out for future reference?
I know a very good old Renault Mechanic in southern England who has one of these and has been a Renault Mechanic all his working life, he's the reason my mk1 trafic is still on the road. If you need his help let me know and I'll pass his details onto you. 😊
2:30 I do not think that is the issue, they look very clean. BTW my car has a new bumper and wing, so nearly done just need a new bonnet! She looks good again.
It may be just the traction control giving issues, usually if it's abs it will be that light plus the brake light tip left on your car, the ! In a circle.
It's not ok. Abs should come on when turning the key. And go out after a couple of seconds when you start the car. The same goes for the service and stop light.
This is from 87... its not behaving like modern day cars with abs... only the service light and other (red lamps) will test them self with the ignition on.. and go out instantly when engine is on... its behaving exactly as it's supposed to now.
Hello, I don´t know what you are using as contact-cleaner (deoxydizer). Some of the best ones (for example contact60) MUST be neutralized )for example with contact601) because otherwise they "eat up" the contacts after a while. So, it can be nice after cleaning, but may get worse after a while.
Rather odd way to inform a driver to have just the vocal warning and no warning light. I remember a Renault Safrane V6 with a vocal synthesizer also showing warning lights and the language could be chosen between English, French and German. For the first time it was awesome to hear a voice say something like "a port a gauche something est mal fermeé " or something like that as being used to buzzers and ding-dong chimes of my family cars of that era. But my dad wasn´t intrested to buy a large French car and chose a Volvoa again instead. But sad that later large Citroens and Peugeots didn´t talk as I have had those.
That Renault seems so superbly quiet and smooth! I'm jealous
its quite amazing... !

The car just told you : trunk not Closed !
« Coffre mal fermė »
Exactly!
COFFRE MAL FERME hehe

yes! I really should have done that!
Great stuff- gotta love that dashboard and steering wheel.

the voice command said "coffre mal fermé" witch means/translates to "boot not properly closed".

Front rotors seen better days, my guess is thay are below minimum thickness. I would try replace these before MOT
the car is speaking French for - I cannot believe the price of fuel (aggressive tone)
Disconnecting the battery as you did, often resets the codes in the ECU.

oh, and I forgot: I love your videos.

I have this picture of a fault alert buzz accompanied by a pictogram dash warning of a frenchman just shrugging their shoulders.
It says it's on fire, I'm pretty sure. Although I haven't had French since school in the '90s.
Well done

God I love that car!
"Aggressive french voice"... Tyskland has entered the chat... 😂

Looking at the sensors that might be the issue...

Even though the very first traction control system did come out on the 80´s... this, is not one of them... no traction control on this one :)

did not know that! but the one I use does not mention anything about that... nor is it very good... :P
les freins fonctionnent pleinement. Loosely translated means,it'll stop.

Coffre mal ferme perhaps, shut the hatch.
I think by disconnecting the ECU you reset the error codes.
HI nice video Hay it's French old French it's A temperamental car. 👍👍👌👌😂😂
I guess the abs is defect because something got stuck between the sensor and the disc
coffre mal fermé = trunk not closed properly
coffre non fermé -
Coffre mal fermé... Boot/trunk not closed correctly..
