Knitting a Christmas stocking for my mother while watching this video, precisely in (small) response to overconsumption. She saw a cute but cheaply-made trendy stocking in the store while visiting, and I steered her away from impulse-buying it on the promise that I could make one like it, but more in her style. Now I have to make good on that promise! 😅
🤶🏾 Thank you for encouraging your community to shop small! As a small business owner, this support means so much, especially during the holidays. Also, I just finished up my first pair of crochet mittens!
Yess, props to you for being an entrepreneur! That’s takes so much hard work and dedication, your boutique looks so cute 🫶🏽🫶🏽 and yay!! I wear my own crochet mittens all the time, so cozy 😊
Just stumbled upon your channel, while looking for tips to "detox" myself from this wild overconsumption trend. Not that I am an overconsumer, I can't really afford to be one, but I still get that annoying need to buy stuff unnecessarily and I don't like to live like this. I want to live more slowly, like I used to. I agree with pretty much everything you said and I'll try to make more sustainable and MEANINGFUL presents this year. Wish more people did the same :)
Same!!! I have moments where I’m like I need this this and this and it gets so overwhelming. but then it’s also a big relief when I realize I don’t need this things and can save my money lol. thanks for watching!!
Great post! Love hearing your thoughts on this, and the fact that you are educating and advocating for things that benefit the planet, the clutter, etc. The struggle is real! I am making some crochet gifts but not to the extent that it stresses me out as I have done in the past. Also (thoughtfully) purchasing things from their wish lists, where possible. 🤶🏻
I love that so much!! Handmade gifts take so much time as it is, I think it’s okay to work on less stressful projects for the holidays. Everyone will love them regardless of how long they took! 😊 thanks for watching
Love your videos. One of my favorite ways to be more mindful with consumption during the holidays is only buying holiday decor we truly love and want to keep using year after year. We have slowly created a collection of decor that feels very “us” and we are excited to just keep reusing it every year versus buying a whole new lineup of decor items from Target
thank you so much!! that is such a good idea, plus it’s so fun to take out the decorations and be like “oh this is from X year”, “so and so got this for us”, etc. that’s how it always way in my family, it makes it so special and homey ❤️
I LOVE Christmas because of gift giving but everyone in my family hates it. It's like this waste of money and time to them, just a time to receive more junk they'll never use, and that really bothers me. Gift giving can be so magical when it's not made into this capitalistic hellhole. It can be pure and kind, I wish it was treated that way and cheap homemade gifts were more normalized. Love everything you said here 😁🤶😁🤶
that is so interesting!! i wish i mentioned that in my vid, a lot of people get overwhelmed by all the junk that it turns them off the whole holiday/festive season in general. but it doesn't have to be that way!! knowing i'm going to get/give a few thoughtful or useful items make me feel way better than receiving a bunch of stuff that's crowding my space. and thanks so much for watching!
@carlascalling if you want to try I recommend getting a little kit for your first project. I've seen them at the dollar store or slightly nicer ones in craft stores for like$10
