    Thank you so much!!! I have this exact trailer. Bought it from this older lady/neighbor back in 2011 thinking it’ll be a fun camping trailer for my family. Today I have 3 kids

    I bought a trailer like this from a friend and I’ve been wanting to do something with mine like this. It would be for work and hauling debris from Carpentry projects. Awesome video dude

    I would personally use the tie down bolts as a plywood bolt. No need for regular bolts to use the plywood only. But who an I to judge? I didn't record a video like you did. So, thank you. This was only an idea

      I’m confused. So the plywood is the bolt?

      @@Deon0026yickadee naw he saying the tie down (loops with screw tips) so it'll ve dual purpose. For tying down your items and keeping the board secure

    Great informative video! I am definitely going to be stealing an idea or 2 lol but nice mods. I was given a 5x8 with wood sides and wood floor. All the wood is rotten so it is a blank canvas for me. I'm definitely looking forward to loading a video of the progress to YT. Thanks brother!

    Wes, Thanks for the video. I just bought a trailer on Monday. It has a wood floor but I need to add wood to the sides so I can haul mulch and the eye bolts are a great idea. I like the addition of the sliding door on the back. I appreciate the info. Looking forward to the next video. Randall

    Since you added the wood, did it cut down on trailer rattle, and made it ride more smoothly?

    If I only plan on using it for camping gear or picking up lumber.. would you suggest adding plywood to a trailer like this?

    • @dirtdiary3162
      @dirtdiary3162  4 года назад +1

      Sounds like it would work fine without the modifications for your purposes. Thanks for watching!

    Great video. It provides some inspiration and ideas for doing the same to my 5 x 8 trailer. I like your idea for the removable back wall.
    Is there anything you wish you did differently now that you’ve had it for a while? I think I might use carriage bolts (with a rounded head) so they sit more flush with the floor, and perhaps I can slide a shovel over top of them.

    • @dirtdiary3162
      @dirtdiary3162  5 лет назад +3

      Thanks for the comment! Actually there is something I would do differently. I did not know, until a commenter enlightened me, that the ramps fold in and lay flat on the floor of the trailer. Unfortunately the plywood floor is too close to the hinges to allow the ramps to fold down all the way. Plus the make shift tailgate rails get in the way too. So if you don't mind having the ramps either straight up or down in the loading position, everything is ok, but if you want to fold them inside the trailer, you need to make some adjustments. Hope that helps!

    I keep my trailer outside. Will the plywood be ok in the rain? Should I get pressure treated plywood? Thanks.

    I don't understand. I have the same trailer and the gate drops to the ground as it should. They put the hinges on wrong if it folds inside the trailer.

    • @dirtdiary3162
      @dirtdiary3162  3 года назад

      Gate dropped to the ground just fine, I just didn’t realize at the time that it also is supposed to fold flat inside the trailer. I ended up cutting some of the plywood floor off so the hinges could fully collapse when laying the gate down inside.

    • @TeamTnA44

      Yeah my bad . I did not realize when I bought mine that YES the gate is designed to fold down inside the bed. However I installed trex boards over the chessy mesh screen. So now there is no way I could think about that. I never thought about having to do that + I'd rather have the trex . Sealed the open sides with carriage bolted plywood , chain to hold lift gate in the fully opened position. Now going to work on steel brackets for higher side boards. Good job

    How is the gate hinges attached to the body? Is it welded or bolted? In other words can the gate be removed for hauling 10 or 12 foot boards?

    • @dirtdiary3162
      @dirtdiary3162  4 года назад +1

      The hinges are welded on. Since making this video, I made some further changes that allow the gate to fold almost flat. To do this, I had to cut a foot or so off of the back of the plywood, remove the wooden back stop, and remove the back two tie loops. When I made this video, I didn't know the gate folded in until a commenter enlightened me. Hope this helps.

      2 years late but I’ve hauled 10’ boards and 12’ carpet rolls on my 4x8
      Just angle the boards up resting on rear gate’ they will stick out a bit so plop a flag on em and call it a day’

      They were $549 ish 2 years ago’ maybe $600 at Tractor supply

      I did not know that and wish I did! I would have changed a few things. Now I'm going to take a few inches of the plywood floor and remove those pieces of wood to allow the ramps to fold down. Thanks.
