So many people say this game sucks. I love Gargoyles as a franchise but I’m not sure if it’s actually bad or if it’s just people who aren’t used to old style games.

I think it's a mixture. The difficulty is rough especially for folks who aren't used to this style gams

This looks like a Super ghouls n ghosts clone to me.
i can see how you'd get that, but not near as annoying as far as the death count nor do you get the various power up changes
