If you want to do this from one Slim HDD to another, just use a flash drive, put all or what you can into it, remove old HDD, put in new..transfer from flash to new.
thanks for the solution but you missed a step, if you are true cloning a drive you need to backup the security sector of the original drive through the security sector tools. Restore the security sector on the drive to be cloned, then restore the backup. Without this step, the files backup restore will not proceed since the security sector does not match. Before overwriting the security sector on the cloned drive, make sure you make a backup ;)
My personal understanding is that for a stock machine the security sectors on the drive are not universal but custom to that specific HDs serial number. Meaning you would have to format the new 2.5” drive with HDHackr to get its own unique security sector then copy all your personal files from your old drive to the new one. Or just have 2 Microsoft drives with the security already written to them. It’s important to back up the security and remember what drive it goes with because if deleted the drives are basically useless if the intended use was an internal storage device for a stock 360
thats the kind of info i was looking for, I bought a tranfer cable and formatted fat 32 the drive unknowing turning it into a fat 32 external drive and destroying the security sector
I took the plunge and tried this but at best, one major step is missing (the security sector) and at worst, some other detail is missing, because it didn't work for me.
I bought a transfer cable from ebay, when i connected to the xbox it asked to format the drive and unknown to me at the time converted it to a fat 32 USB drive and completely useless in an xbox 360, $15 to brick a $50 hard drive. the 360s will no longer recognize the drive so I can't tell if this will work for me
I gotta try this. I got the Gears of War 3 Xbox 360 the day it came out and that HDD is the original in there. I bought a new drive a few years ago, but too lazy to reinstall EVERYTHING again.
My hard drive has CRC errors - the backup is not being created. (xbox 360 FAT - freeboot) - I deleted all the games in the “content” folder, since the copy is too large and in most cases an error may appear (I had a backup of games). - Copied all the files through Explorer using the “integrate into windows” button. - Installed a new hard drive in the XBOX, formatted the hard drive like xbox whants. - Connected it to the PC and using FATXplorer in the same way like when copying, pasted the files back in, and also added the game files from backup. Works perfectly! Thanks!
Cloning PS4 internal/external and PS5 external drives works too :) External cloned drives work on any playstation that your account is logged in to. User ID must match ;) Taking a cloned PS5 external and hooking it up to a 9.00 PS4 works if the correct account ID is installed. Taking that same drive back to the PS5 won't work (even if you do nothing while attached to the PS4) You can't do anything with the PS5 external drive besides have a backup of installed software - in case you were staying offline for some reason ;)
Hi Michael I used your very informative instructions to copy the music files from my Xbox to my Windows10 PC; is there any way these music files can be converted to play on VLC media player or similar? Thanks very much
Hi Michael I have tried this program, and for the best part was completely successful. However I found it didn't actually do a 1:1 copy of the HDD it actually added a partition that wasn't on the actual HDD. It added a HDDX partition, which wasn't and has never been installed on any of my HDD's. I know this partition is for backwards compatibility, but as I dont intend running OG Xbox games, I have never needed this partition. I have emailed the software providers, who said if I ho into toolkit view and partitions and right click on partition, I would be able to delete it from there. However you can only do this by obtaining a license, and not part of the 7 day trial. I have since got back in touch with the software providers, because this program actually adds partitions that wasn't there before, and people are unaware that this is happening. I will let you know more, when I've heard back from the software providers, regards Andy

Well, than that method won’t work. However I found solution for that by myself. Instead of doing backup, you can just use option “integrate into windows”. Once your HDD is visible as normal partition, you can simply copy whole content from Xbox HDD to your PC. Then if you have bigger HDD/SSD (whatever u got there) and you want to move your data, first thing you need to do, is connect it into your Xbox and format it, in order to get Xbox format. When it’s done, you can connect it to PC, launch FATXploter software, search for device, integrate it with Windows and move your data from PC into your hard drive. That’s it :) But, I also need to mention that’s not a perfect solution because by doing that, you might lose your saves from Xbox OG games, and game covers at Aurora dash.
