  • The hot new Power Wheels Porsche GT3 looks the part, but can we make it play the part? We modify the GT3 in hope of besting the reigning champion, a modified Dune Racer with a driver who does not like to lose. See how the brotherly racing rivalry shakes out as we convert the GT3 from 12V to 18V.
    Want to upgrade your own Power Wheels vehicle? You'll need this gear for the 12-18V Conversion:
    Complete kit (easiest, but more expensive; check connector compatibly before purchase) amzn.to/2Mkj0J8
    Or piece the parts together yourself, below:
    Connectors, Wire, & Fuse:
    F2 Connectors, Wire, & Fuse (also available at any automotive or big box home improvement store)
    F2 Female Connectors amzn.to/29U60qj
    F2 Male Connectors amzn.to/29ZbC2W
    12 Gauge Hook-up Wire (Red/Black combo) amzn.to/2a7faAz
    or 12 Gauge Hook-up Wire (Red/Black/White) amzn.to/29KLwSn
    Individual In-line 30A Fuse amzn.to/29MfCBf
    or Power Wheels connector with Fuse (if you choose not to cut the connector off of your PW battery) amzn.to/2MinEXV
    Batteries:
    6V amzn.to/2asvr0K
    12V amzn.to/29Z8Af7
    Battery Charger
    To charge 6v and 12v batteries individually amzn.to/2BcIFNh
    or 18V Charger amzn.to/2oJlY0D
    ** may need connector for 18V charger, such as amzn.to/2VI9SRD
    Favorite Video Equipment
    GoPro Hero 7 Black Action Cam amzn.to/2MjYjwA
    DJI Osmo Action Cam amzn.to/35ztUSI

    Most of those cars have little gear handles to go backwards keep in the middle to stop and push forward to go forward but if you unscrew the screws you can push it all the way down there to goes faster than it usually does

    Next mods for these cars should be brushless power drills. Milwaukee makes some great upgrade options and gear boxes. The plastic wheels are good for grass but awful everywhere else. Rubber is just too heavy unless power train is modified. Then youre getting into large batteries, reduced run time. Might as well just give the am 90cc atv lol.

    hey man, just wondering here (and researching for my project),putting more voltage in a 6v (or would be 12v) motor doesn't reduce lifetime of the motor? Great video!

    • @motorsmegabytesmods9936
      @motorsmegabytesmods9936  6 лет назад

      The two biggest weak points for adding more voltage are the gearbox and overheating the motor. The more voltage you provide, the more torque on the plastic gearboxes, and the more likely something will break. If you have an electronic speed control that eases the power on, you can add more voltage (24v) to a stock gearbox. Also, too much voltage to the motor will overheat them and burn them out.

    Painfully slow, I would throw in a 6S 16000mah Lipo battery from hobbyking which is 22V and lightweight, large capacity drone battery. Get ready to haul ass. I'm sure it's a brush motor, get a 48V ESC from eBay, wire 2 x 6S lipos in series combined for 44V and get ready to rip. Also, upgrade to a 1500W brushed motor down the line, as you may burn out the stock motor on 44V. Just my 2 cents (I build electric race bikes 116V, 70mph).

      @motorsmegabytesmods9936  7 лет назад +3

      +AmuckPVP excellent point, better motors definitely kick things up! The biggest reason I went to only 18v is the gearbox. Once you hit the torque that 24v provides, the instant start and stop of the power is difficult for the plastic gears to handle, and they will eventually fail. To combat this, modders also upgrade the gearbox, change to a variable throttle system (usually a scooter board), or both. I like your mindset of more power!

      *"excellent point, better motors definitely kicks things up!"*
      I ended up going to multiple pawnshops & bought a ride-on-car toy for an amazing price. The unit I bought had a dead battery & I talked them down to reduce the price of $60 because of it.
      *"The biggest reason I went to only 18v is the gearbox. Once you hit the torque that 24v provides, the instant start and stop of the power is difficult for the plastic gears to handle, and they will eventually fail."*
      I purchased a new Traxxas 5675 Titan 775 & you can get the plastic disc that goes inside the GearBox used or new at a good price on eBay or buy a metal one.
      *"To combat this, modders also upgrade the gearbox, change to a variable throttle system (usually a scooter board), or both. I like your mindset of your power!"*
      I thought about buying a ESC system someone is selling on eBay that I came across from RUclips or to try to build it myself. I wonder if certain scooters have it so I can just transfer the system to a ride-on-car toy & I can pay a fraction for getting it used. However, I did what the person above mentioned. I ended up getting 3 cheap-grippy bike tires at Wal~Mart & it helped for the jerking.

      I forgot to mention that the two batteries weighed less than the dead default battery & should last a lot longer anyways. Also, I failed to mentioned other accessories I bought like the fuses, new wiring, & etc. I bought a used unit at a pawn shop that costs less than the price compared to paying when it's new & that includes the price of upgrading mine with MOD's. All in all, it was a fun project & my toddler son loves it. He recently got it for Christmas but unfortunately it's been raining a lot in California where I'm from lately.

    So my kids have the same Power Wheels Porsche GT3 and I've been looking to do this exact mod to make it a little faster. I wanted to see how the batteries were wired in a series, but you didn't show that too much in detail on your video. Any more information on this? Thanks! BTW, you have a lovely family!

    • @motorsmegabytesmods9936
      @motorsmegabytesmods9936  7 лет назад

      Hi AWDRIFT, thank you for the compliment! There are a couple of ways you can do this. One is to do it how I did it in the video where you snip off the factory connector (on the car) and use the "F2" connectors in its place (links in the video description, for reference). One of those sides is positive and the other is negative, and there is usually a (+) and symbol on the connector so you know which is which. The wires are sometimes color coded with red being positive (+). You then connect the positive wire (+) from the car to the positive (+) connector on one of the batteries (it doesn't matter which battery). Next, you connect the negative terminal from that battery to the positive (+) connector on the second battery. Finally, you close the loop by connecting the negative terminal on the second battery to the negative wire on the car. You've then successfully wired the battery in series. You'll know you reversed the connection to the car (swapped the (+) and ) if you push the throttle in a forward gear and the car goes backwards. In that case, you mixed up the (+) and on the car side, so just flip them and you'll be set.
      The other option is to leave the factory connector on the car and buy a second factory connector for the battery. In that case, you wire the batteries the same way as I described, but connect the positive and negative wires from the batteries to the new factory connector instead of directly to the car. You can usually find new or used connectors on eBay, just be sure to get the right "style", as all power wheels connectors are not the same, and the car and battery connectors are different from one another.
      Good luck, and let me know if you have further questions.

    • @AWDRIFT
      @AWDRIFT 7 лет назад

      Motors, Megabytes, & Mods , thanks for the quick reply. What gauge wires did you get for the connections, or does it matter? Your instructions on running the batteries in a series is really helpful. Thanks!

    • @motorsmegabytesmods9936
      @motorsmegabytesmods9936  7 лет назад

      AWDRIFT I went with 12 gauge wire, and there are links in the video description for reference. Any "hookup wire" at your local auto or home improvement store will work. You'll need connectors, and the typical batteries (as in the links) have what are called F2 connectors. Those are also available at most retailers, as well as on amazon. Expand the video description and you'll see most of the parts list laid out.

    • @motorsmegabytesmods9936
      @motorsmegabytesmods9936  7 лет назад

      +Rod Costa not at 18v. When you kick it up to 24v, you run into issues with the stock motors and gearboxes. In that case, you go with a stronger first gear (vendors like ml toys), or an electronic speed control for variable throttle. It's those 100% power starts and stops that thrashes the gearboxes.

    • @motorsmegabytesmods9936
      @motorsmegabytesmods9936  7 лет назад +1

      +Skater Life that's a good idea, and some people are doing it. The biggest knock against it is the capacity. The larger drill batteries are around 4.0ah, and the batteries in this video are 12.0ah, so they will run for about 3x as long as the drill battery. You could theoretically run 3 drill batteries in parallel to get the same 12ah, but they you would lose the convenience of a single, small, light drill (lithium) battery.

    To get the 911 to go faster take rubber strips and Super glue them around the back tires

    the blue racer has a lotta wheelspin, but in the end the GT3 wins.......for some reason the 12 volts gives the wheelspin lots of power, making the end a bit of power....id say its good but would you change both to 24 volts and do some upgrades on the GT3 same on the blue racer but id prefer the GT3 because its more of a racer but you can do simple mods like um.... a new spoiler and real rubber on the tires??? its maybe gonna give the GT3 more wheelspin same for the Blue Racer and how bout' change the color of the body.....and clean up the interior so its more lightweight....id not prefer a carbon fiber hood cuz the engine is at the back.......id really want it to happen...im a great fan!!! :-)
