The Raft of the Medusa painting by Théodore Géricault is an incredible Romanticism painting based on a jaw-dropping story during the early 1800s. This video tells the story of the few men who survived this lost-at-sea tragedy and includes an analysis of this art piece, which helps us see why it is so captivating.

not sure how verifiable this is but at this moment, the ship (the argus) actually doesnt see them and sails past, and its not til later on that theyre rescued, so it actually depicts a moment of false hope
