I feel that ‘creativity comes in waves’’ Vibe. Ugh, gotta love that 3am need to create when work is at 8am. 😂 Then when creativity drains, it’s time to catch up on 😴.
Yes!! Sometimes an idea comes to me in the middle of the night and I dream about it.. get up super early to go get it done I can't stop thinking about... then I'm so tired 1/2 way through the day.. ha! 😊
I really liked the way you explained the ebb and flow of creativity. I have felt like this too and wasn't quite sure how to ride it out. I have tried a few other "creativity" guides - but I will definitely be checking out a few of these as well. Thank you for sharing.
"Best book in my library... along with all the other books that are the best book in my library." LOL. I can relate. I think I'm going to have to get that Art Supplies book. Looks juicy!!!
@2lilowlsstudio You are so enthusiastic, and you say some wonderfully funny things! You are natural and real - just what an artist needs to be! Keep being you! 💗
@@2lilowlsstudioI DID end up ordering that Art Supplies" book from my local independent bookstore, and read it cover to cover, front to back! So inspiring! Then discovered the Uppercase Magazine online, and ordered a bunch of back issues which just arrived this week. BOY OH BOY! They are absolutely fantastic! So full of inspiration, great artists' stories and artwork - chock full of great stuff for creatives! And as a Canadian I was excited to see that they are published in Canada! So many thanks for sharing this wonderful resource that led me to this wonderful publishing company! I did write the publisher today and I told her how inspired I was by them, and told her that you had put me onto the Art Supplies book - and therefore to that publisher. I'm sure she's very grateful.
Thanks for this, Denise. I'll have to get at least a couple of these books. I had one, Steal Like an Artist and I'll have to go back to it two. Didn't know about the other 2 in the series.
I'm so glad I stumbled on your channel. The Austin Kleon books look really interesting and I've never heard of them before. I would also like to read Fect Perfuction. I'm definitely a person who has struggled with being ok with things not being perfect. So, it sounds like it would be great for me.
Love this video Denise! I have all of Austin Kleon’s books and they are awesome….I have the Art Supplies as well and yes it is such an inspiring book! I would like to suggest: Called to Create by Jordan Raynor - such an uplifting book encouraging us to BE the creators we are born to be and also the book The Creator In Me by Jordan Raynor - this is a children’s book that offers such amazing support to both kids & adults (I got it for my grandson but loved it so much I bought a copy for myself!). Will be checking out the other books you showed 😊
I'm in the UK and I've managed to get the Art Supplies encyclopaedia. It looks like something I need to spark inspiration and the Conscious Creativity one I've considered for a while. You have convinced me that I need that too. 😊
Thank you for the recommendations. “Conscious Creativity” looks appealing to me. I’m a “newby” to paint but also a photographer in the past with a website, studio, exhibitions, etc. mainly portrait photography. Your enthusiasm is contagious and had me smiling this morning.
Thanks for sharing. The first three books look interesting. I'm new to your channel. I just came across it the other day. I love it and am subscribed! 😊
Hi Denise! This was a great video! I'm such a sucker for art books, and I managed to request a few of the titles from my local library. I'm particularly interested in the last book you reviewed, Art Supplies by Uppercase Magazine. Did you order it directly from the UK or were you able to find a domestic supplier? The book itself is pretty pricey, and international shipping would make it even more so, but it looks like a stunning publication. Thanks for all of your excellent videos and your effervescent personality. 🥰
So glad you enjoyed the video! I ordered Art Supplies directly from Uppercase. I don’t think it was stocked other places when I got it after it first came out. I’m not sure where they are located. It is one of my favorite books. 😊
I found some info on where they ship things from here: uppercasemagazine.com/#:~:text=Made%20in%20Canada&text=Canadian%20orders%20from%20Toronto%20unless,back%20issue%20leaves%20the%20warehouse.
I need to apologize to Elizabeth Gilbert. I rarely hate books. But Eat Pray Love put me off Elizabeth Gilbert for years. I could not get past the first section. I had a visceral reaction to her privileged feminist persona. Then I read her novel A Signature of All Things. I picked it up at the bookstore and started reading it without realizing who the author was. Eating crow now. She’s a brilliant writer and thinker. Not the trivial person I had thought. Thanks for sharing your inspiration!
