Thanks for the vid. I was trying to service one. But it was imposible for me to understand how to open it. Bit thanks to you i realize the zoom ring was indeed ruber not hard plastic. Mine was just too hard that i thought it was build in plastic hehe
I have the same issue with the same lens. Please update me if you had any results with cleaning your lens, i'm looking forward into disassembling mine to clean it.
This is the best video around about this lenses. I managed to tear it down to clean some dust and correct the squeal, but Im having an issue with aperture control, after putting it together, the fully open (4.0 in my lens) is not available at 28mm, but it shows at 80mm, it should be the other way around. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the patience to record this. Subbed.
Thanks for your video! With an analog camera kit I got a similar Canon 28-80mm lens (but the USM V model) that is really soft wide open, in the whole zoom range. The aberrations seem to cause blurriness towards one side (not even the center is sharp). Any ideas on what could be wrong? I guess it must have been dropped at some point, but is there any way to recalibrate it (even if it's not perfect)?
hi mike i have a question maybe you have a video on..i have a nikon afs d 300 2.8.. sometime focus stops and when it does if i take off body and put back on it will somtimes take care of it.. i wonder if this could nbe a mounting baynet issue.. ive sent it out for repair and the shop said they couldnt duplicate issue but it happens on all the bodies i have.. and i even cleaned contacts..any advice
Make sure it's not a screw with reverse threads. It might turn the opposite direction that normal. Another thing is to put the screwdriver on the screw and tap the screwdriver lightly once to break loose the threads.
no need for markings of the Aperture assembly , it can go in only 2 ways , and one way the flat cable will be wrong side ,so youll quickly see that , so no need really . No need to mark anything on this lens .

I have the ultrasonic version of this, when I tries unscrewing the top screws it won’t even budge. Is there an solution to this?
