  • Being on a small farm and with a large family, our van is a multi-purpose vehicle and a very important part of our lives. This video addresses one of the few issues that we have had with these vans in the 430,000+ miles that we have put on them over the last 12 years.
    This covers the replacement of the Throttle Position Sensor, the Throttle Body itself and the Accelerator Pedal and Sensor. The OBDII code was a P2111 - Throttle Actuator Control System - Stuck Open.

      Thanks. We now have a 2014 E-350 with 88,000 miles. It started having issues a few weeks ago with stalling out at idle. Code was P025A. Ford wanted to replace the throttle body and I had to insist that they not do that and look for something else. (I know what a bad throttle body looks like from multiple experiences). They finally determined it was a bad fuel control module, which is now part of the fuel pump assembly in the tank. $1200.00.

    Thanks for the very though explainations. I have a p0506 code which is clean throttle body. I wasn’t sure how to get to it and you saved me a lot of work. Thanks again for taking your time to video the process. I’m also glad to know that I am not the only one that is a parts replacer😀 However I’ve found I can replace a lot of parts to resolve most issues compared to what the dealer charges👍

    I had very similar problems on my 2006 E350 recently. Unfortunately I could not find a new TB-motor wiring connector so I did not change that one myself. After spending a grand on new TB, TPS, and TPS wiring harness however, it ended up being the problem just like shown and stated in this great video. If you tackle any of this yourself watch out for the screws on the TPS. Found out the hard way that Ford has another famous flaw in that they put way too much lock tight on those two little buggers. Both mine broke off resulting in the need to pull the TB and replace it too. if you want to change the TPS, take off the TB first, and hit those two screws with a torch for a few seconds to break the lock-tight, then use an impact gun to remove the two little TPS mounting screws. hopefully that will prevent them from breaking off on you.

      Andrew Lojo Yes, I had heard the same thing, that's why I was very careful when I started loosening those screws. Fortunatley, mine came off pretty easy.

    I noticed on acceleration I don't go as fast as I used to.I just had the Mass Air Flow Sensor done yesterday because the van would lose power when I made a right hand turn from a stop? And sometimes when I start at a green light. I have 145 thousand on my 06 E350. Thanks and great video. Also I have no codes on the dash.

    Thanks That was a great help. My '06 e-150 Is throwing up a p2132 code "Accelerator pedal position 3-circuit low" Wrench light is on. Didn't go into total limp mode though. Not sure where to start.To make matters more complicated I had an aftermarket Cruise control installed a couple of years ago. One of it's wires connects to the pedal pos. censor. So the cruise has stopped working also.

      robert cuthill If you know of somebody who can check the voltage on your throttle body wiring for free or cheap, I would start there. But that sounds very similar.

    • @robertcuthill8484
      @robertcuthill8484 5 лет назад +1

      @Milk and Honey Homestead. It is very similar. Could be a fairly common thing. I downloaded a diagnostic program called Forscan. It's reads Ford specific codes that generic code readers are blind to. Had to get a laptop usb connector to OBD2 to run the program. ebay has it for about $35 bucks. Not bad considering the money I can save running Ford specific diagnostics. One of the big auto repair franchises around here wanted to charge $90 just for doing the diagnostic. Than they said "you may end up having to take it to Ford".

  • @mobilemechanic0177
    @mobilemechanic0177 3 года назад

    The Foot pedal has a sensor which is suppose to electronically connect to the throttle sensor you pointed out which is usually the problem if any water or soda or whatever get in it you are stuck hopefully not full throttle! Which does happen with run away new vehicles! I would see if you can convert to old cable method!

    05 e350 extended incomplete van. 320k
    Just started having your issue. It really likes to do it most on inclines of any sort for me. A few times it will do the 800rpm stop, other times shut off, other times run like a diesel. My question is specific to where the pigtails are located. Is this in the main harness or where they tie into their respective harnesses then to the main harness. It's frustrating only being able to max at 60mph as the higher speeds seem to exacerbate the frequency of forced power mode when under load or heavy road deformities. It hasn't yet done it on any downhill. I can also see what looks to be voltage issues in the rpm needle while under load. It's small pulses that drop the needle slightly and the pcm is trying to correct. Eventually it throws internal torque calculation codes causing me to pull over and shut off , erase code and restart. Oddly enough also on an incline, when my blower is on, ac or heat, the air will stop blowing from the vents yet the blower is still on and running. All of that while under load on incline.
    UPDATE
    Found a large wire harness that lays on the egr pipe and has wear from heat and vibration. It is where the TPS pig tails in.

    • @SixteenChickens
      @SixteenChickens  3 года назад +1

      Mine would do it on an incline sometimes, or when you started or stopped quickly. Also, it never did it with a cold engine, but it would once it warmed up. Ford said that this is because the wiring harness would "droop" when it got hot or when it moved around suddenly, causing the breaks in the harness to stretch and lose voltage.

  • @ZaphodsPlanet

    Have you ever heard about these sticking open.... so you can come to a stop... hitting the brakes hard and suddenly your power braking you you hear the rear tires spinning......scared the crap out of me the first time... LOL. But it races... I put it in neutral... it races up to a hair over 3K rpm then it goes back down to normal idle.

    • @SixteenChickens
      @SixteenChickens  5 лет назад +1

      Hughie Boss Thank you, I bought the fog lights from an F250, they were easy to wire, but really hard to mount correctly in the bumper. Anyway, your second code is throttle body related. I would check your throttle wiring and connectors for any cracks or breaks. Also, let the engine idle and move your throttle pigtails up and down and see if the problem changes at all. My wiring would begin to sag as the engine warmed up and reach the point where the cracks, etc. would begin to degrade the voltage, then triggering the issue. Finally it just got to the point where the wiring was always losing voltage due to age. If nothing works, I would take it to Ford and get them to at least diagnose the problem. They will do this for free and only charge you if you choose to have them do the work. Thanks.

      By the way, we get about 16mpg on the highway with these vans, and that's fully loaded. Between city and highway driving it averages about 13.5mpg. We recently sold the van in the video and bought a 2014 model with 50K miles on it. It gets the exact same mileage.

    Having similar problem with my 02 e-250 hard pedal at first then it loosens up but it also wants to die when I accelerate and sometimes dies when accelerating would that be a throttle body issue if anyone knows I will appreciate the help

    • @SixteenChickens
      @SixteenChickens  4 года назад +1

      Interesting that leading up to my throttle body issue, the accelerator pedal felt "sticky" when you first touched it. It would loosen up as you drove. After I fixed the TB issue, the stickiness went away. I would say that any issue with stalling or hesitation is probably TB related.

    I have a Ford 2013 E-series van and today I got a sensor warning (which was a small wrench), which turned out to be a "Powertrain Malfunction/Electronic Throttle Control" light. The vehicle appeared to be working normally, with no signs of any issue. However after I stopped the vehicle for a few minutes, when I got back in and started her up, put the vehicle in drive, and it would rev up but it didn't go anywhere. Tried restarting vehicle with no change. So now I'm trying to figure out the problem. I've seen a video suggesting it may be Electronic Throttle Body failure. Or maybe its just a sensor issue........or a throttle pedal issue.........or a wiring issue.... So my question is how do I figure out which is the problem? If anyone can help me out on that I would be very appreciative. I would certainly like to avoid having to go thru what this gentlemen went thru, that's for sure. Was there a way that could of avoided having to troubleshoot like that? You mentioned a volt meter perhaps.

      @@MrKevingore Holy crap, I'm sorry but at this moment I am totally drawing a blank. This is crazy. I had several issues with that van that I had to resolve. But this one I am absolutely not remembering what was done to solve the issue, if it was solved at all. Now eventually, the transmission went out on that van and essentially it was useless at that point and was sold for scrap. I don't recall if this was the problem that I was having in this comment though. I actually had 2 vans that were of the same model and year, or close to the same year, and both of them had the transmissions go out. If it comes back to me, I'll let you know.

    • @SixteenChickens
      @SixteenChickens  4 года назад

      Yes, that was actually the first thing that I did. Unfortunatley a P2111 can be multiple issues and in the end the problem was something that the code had nothing to do with.

      @@SixteenChickens I guess. I have a 2000 E150 with 4.6 and within the first 5 years I had it, I had many codes for sensors going bad and the zone read every one spot on. And just recently I had coil problems, after 125,000 on it. The reader pinpointed which cylinder and picked the coil from coil, plug or fuel injector.
      Sorry,, just from what you were saying, you were kinda guessing. Be nice to get 2 or 300,000 out of mine but guess we have to be understanding that certain parts don't last forever.
